Roller Skating Party Set For 4-Hers April 15 The 4-H members made plans for a roller skating party to be held on April 15 at Eby Pines. This will be a joint party with the Perry Pacesetters Boys 4-H club. The next scheduled meeting is April 5 at the Centenary United Methodist church, beginning at 3:45 p.m. Busy Bees Have Supper Perry Busy Bees Girls’ 4-H club met at the Centenary United Methodist church Monday evening. Members enjoyed a potluck supper which was followed by the business meeting. Installation of officers was held with Cindy Hartman installed as president. Rotary Club Hears Dr. Hunt Ligonier Rotary club members heard Dr. Steve Hunt, new dentist from Cromwell, at their Monday morning breakfast meeting. Dr. Hunt, the guest of Dr. Robert Stone, spoke on medical and dental problems facing the country today. Elizabeth Wells Enlists In WAF's Elizabeth Wells, 18. daughter of Mrs. Betty Grimes. Cromwell, recently enlisted in the United States Women’s Air Force and is presently completing her six weeks of orientation training which teaches the history of the air force, customs and courtisies She is stationed at Lackland air force base, San Antonio, Tex. Choir Service Being Planned A united community choir service, sponsored by the Ligonier Ministerial Association, is being planned for Palm Sunday. April 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wawaka Church of the Brethren. The combined choir will be singing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic’’, “Send Out Thy Light” and a number of other songs. There will also be special numbers and a varied program. Mrs. James Golden is directing the choir and the organ and piano accompaniment will be furnished by Mrs. Roger Tuggle and Mrs. James Stephens. ULREYS ATTEND SEMINAR Mr. and Mrs. John Ulrey attended the Dodge Chemical Seminar for funeral directors held at Fort Lauderdale, Fla., last week. They also spent a week in the Bradenton - Anna Marie area and visited friends and former residents of Ligonier. Cancer Crusade To Start Here On April 19 The Cancer Crusade will start on April 19 in Noble county. A recent meeting of volunteers was held in Kendallville. Mrs. Raymond Cole and Mrs. Graydon Blue will head the residential drive in the city with Mrs. Chester Wolf, captain of the Perry township residential drive. Chairman of the industrial drive is Kenneth Barnum and Clem Jablonski leads the committee to contact businessmen. A total of $872.60 was raised in Ligonier and Perry township during the 1970 drive. Jaycees Participate In Honey Sunday Jayceee of the area, with the aid of the Ligonier boy scouts, participated for the first time in the statewide sponsored program for aid to retarded children. Sunday {afternoon they canvassed the West Noble area and sold 1560 worth of honey. All proceeds will go to the Noble Training Center located at Rome City Vocational training is provided at the center where a work oriented prograrh is provided for those retarded residents of Noble County from 16 years up. The work week is Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 2:30 with the primary aim of the program being to help the retarded achieve their full potential socially and vocationally. “Honey Sunday” has been a program of long standing in some of the adjoining counties but the West Noble area had not participated Since the opening of the Rome City location in November 1970 the need has been brought to die attention of this group. Jaycees of Ligonier are a hardworking group of young men and both they and the boy scounts deserve much credit for their civic participation. Mrs. Everett Eversole Mrs. Mae Eversole, 71, 804 Main street, was found dead Wednesday afternoon at her home. Death was from an apparent heart attack. Mrs. Eversole was born May 1, 1899, in Hancock County. Ohio, to Mell and Anna Madouse Todd. She was married in 1924 in Pierceton to Everett Eversole who preceded her in death in
1966. Mrs. feversole was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Perry Center School north of Ligonier for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist church and a past matron of Ligonier O.E.S. She is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Claude Landow, Indianapolis, Mrs. Paul Christner, Wakarusa, Mrs. Robert Clevenger, Syracuse, Mrs. Edmund Schulz, Lorraine, Ohio, and Mrs. Gertrude DePree of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, John Todd. Ligonier, Marion Todd. Charlottsville. Va., and Ralph Todd, Three Rivers, Mich. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home, Ligonier, with Rev. Walter House officiating. Burial was in Oak Park cemetery. A IN HOSPITAL Mrs. Leland Calbeck of Ligonier is a patient in Baptist hospital, Montgomery, Ala. Mrs. Calbeck. enroute home from Florida, fell and fractured her hip. Joe Leavy, former Ligonier resident, is a patient at Cantebury Manor nursing home in Rochester. 100 Attend Gvil Defense Meeting Approximately 100 persons attended the Region 4 meeting of the Civil Defense Saturday at Plymouth. Attending from Syracuse were city director Charles Vanderveer, treasurer Kenneth Felts, secretary Mrs. Thomas Gilbert and reporter Mrs. Georgia Buster. During the morning schedule a film was shown entitled, “A Lady Called Camille", involving the hurricane named as such. Among morning talks was Indiana university’s government sponsored program and an informative talk on “Changing Trend in Civil Defense”. Following the luncheon, Region 4 director Bruce Bishop of Michigan spoke on Civil Defense and the chief meteorologists of the Indianapolis and South Bend Weather Services spoke on weather regarding tornados. March through June are excellent tornado months and Indiana ranks seventh in the country for tornado possibility.
Arnold Garza Booked Saturday Milford police chief Don Drake arrested Arnold Garza, 35, Milford, at 10 a.m. Saturday on a warrant issued by the city court of Warsaw charging him with assault and battery. Garza was booked in the county jail and bond was set at S2OO. » Gospel Singing To Be Featured At Mount Tabor Sunday Evening of Gospel Singing will be held at the Mount Tabor Church of God, six miles south of* Nappanee this Sunday evening, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. The musical concert will be featuring the outstanding young soloist, Dennis Chizum of Mishawaka. Mr. Chizum is devoting full time to the work of song evangelism and Sunday School work. He has been very active

these past number of years, singing throughout the Midwest in concerts, churches, crusades and on radio and television. Mr. Chizum has an outstanding voice and has great capabilities of reaching both the young people and the older. He has, through his music and singing, bridged the generation gap. He attended Bethel college in Mishawaka and the Stamps School of Music in Dallas, Texas. He has served in the armed services in Viet Nam and through his experiences has a great testimony of the work of Christ in his life. Mr. Chizum is married and has one child. He has made two long playing albums. He was featured in the Mount Tabor Crusade last fall and was a tremendous witness and success with the people that heard him. Community Hands Hold Meeting The Community Hands 4-H club met last week with Mark Grady opening the meeting. Pledge to the flag was led by Robyn Watkins. The 4-H pledge was by Denise Darr, followed by group singing. Discussion was held on the Photo Fun club on television, and the club project. Dennis Darr, treasurer, collected dues. The next meeting will be held tonight, Wednesday. SOLDIER OF THE MONTH SP 4 Robert D. Mferew, son of Mr. and Mrs. David L. McGrew, 313 South Huntington street, Syracuse, and formerly of Nappanee, was recently selected as USASTRATCOM Signal Group, Japan’s "Soldier of the Month.”
