'Music Around The World’ Is Festival Theme
‘ Music Around the World" will be the theme for the fourth annual Lakeland Community School Corporation music x festival scheduled for Friday. March 19. in the Wawasee-high school gymnasium at 8 pm. Involved in the festival will be selected students from grades four and five forming an elementary choir, sixth grade bands, sixth grade choirs, seventh and eighth grade bands, seventh and eighth grade choirs, high school bands, high school choirs, and combined orchestra students. Cher 1.000 students in grades four through 12 will participate in this musical extravaganza which will exemplify people in various countries around the world. The

Syracuse Science Fair Set For Saturday, March 20
The Syracuse Science Eair will be held this Saturday, March 20. inihe cafeteria at the elementary and junior high schools. This event is sponsored annually by the Syracuse Parent-Teacher Organization The fair is limited to students m grades 3 thru 8 The participants will set up their projects in the cafeteria on Friday as ternoon Judging will be done Saturday morning from 8:30 to 11:00 Participants are to be present during the judging to answer questions the judges may have about their projects Only the participants and judges should be m the cafeteria during the judging The cafeteria will be open , to the public from 1-4 pm for view ing of the exhibits Everyone is invited to come and see what the students are doing in science.

Combining the various groups in their final rehearsals will take place throughout the day on Friday. The Lakeland Community School Corporation board of education desires to present this program to the parents and the community without charge. All are welcome.

STEPHEN HARDIN Stephen Hardin, our first featured senior this week, is the son of Ollie and Alberta Hardin of r 1 North Webster. This year he is taking government. physiology. auto mechanics and band. Stephen is a member of the national honor society and YIP. After graduating from Wawasee high school he plans to attend Vincennes university. He has two older sisters. Mrs. Jack (Ruth> Chestnut, of Griffith and Judy who is attending secretarial school m Elkhart Stephen works at White's Mobil Service in .North Webster. His favorite sports are basketball and monopoly. Water skiing and shooting pool are his favorite hobbies — WHSTACEILE L. ESTEP Taceile L Estep is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Joe O. After graduating Taceile plans to attend Ravenscroft university of cosmetology in Fort Wayne. She has one sister, Mrs. Pete (Scerita) Melendez of r 1 Syracuse. Taceile works at Land O’ Goshen in New Paris. Swimming, skiing and watching stock car races are her favorite sports. Sewing is her hobbv. —WHS—MARY CLAYTON Mary Clayton is taking government, black history, psychology. English, art four and auditing this year. Art is her favorite subject Mary is the daughter of Frederick D. and Carroll J. Clayton of r 3 Syracuse. She plans to attend Ball State university after graduating from Wawasee Marriage is also in this senior's future as she is engaged to Robert C. Elkins who is presently serving four years in the U.S Navy.
Her brothers and sisters are as follows: Tom. 24. a grad student at Purdue university; Ricky. 16. a student at the Cardinal Learning Center in Warsaw; Randy. 11 and Melani. seven, both students at the Syracuse elementary school; and Missy. 21 months of age. Mary works at the Rainbow Inn in downtown Syracuse. Water sports — swimming and skiing — and bowling are her favorite sports. Steinbeck s novel “Grapes of Wrath’’ is her favorite book. Her hobbies are drawing, sketching, painting and doing jigsaw puzzles. - WHS—DAVID EUGENE SNYDER David Eugene Snyder is a member of the Chicago Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. He is the son of Maury and Donna Snyder of 118 W. Portland street. Syracuse. This year he is taking English, music, auto mechanics and ag mechanics.. Auto mechanics is his favorite subject. Debbie is taking art four, government, senior English, physiology and band this year. Art is tier favorite subject. She has been a member of the Thespian club for three years and has served as secretarytreasurer. She has been a member of the art club for four years and served as vice president. She has been a member of the Latin club for two a cheerleader one year, a member of GAA one year and a member of the cheer block one year. She was in the play "If A Man Answers.” Debbie has awards in band and art. She has a sister. Cynthia, 16. a high school sophomore and a brother. Eric, six and in the first grade. She works at Fee's His and Her shop in North Webster. Water skiing and swimming are her favorite sports. Her favorite book is "A Choice of Weapons" by Gordon Parks. Sewing and painting are her hobbies. - WHS—JEFFREY MARTIN Jeffrey Dale Martin is the son of Stanley E. and Elsie L. Martin of Milford. He plans to work this summer and attend a technical school after graduation. He is also considering college after graduating from the technical school. Jeff is taking physics, algebra two, government. English 12 and journalism this year. Physics and government are his favorite subjects. He has been a member of the science club for three years, journalism club for one year and the Spanish club for two years. He has a sister. Starr, nine; and a brother. Daniel, six. Jeff works at Foo and Faye's. Handball is his favorite sport. “Catch-22” is his favorite book and swimming, electronics, cars and reading are his hobbies. —WHS—ELDONNA CLAYTON Eldonna Marie Clayton is the daughter of Eldon and Louise Clayton of r 1 North Webster. She is the youngest of four children. Her brother David is married and the father of four children; a sister, Betty, is a first grade teacher in Paulding. Ohio; and another sister. Sally- is a ward clerk at Saint Joseph hospital in Fort Wayne. Government, concert choir, concert band, senior English and occupational clothing are the classes Eldonna is taking this
year. Occupational clothing is her favorite subject. She has been in band, choir and cheerblock for four years and a member of the Y-Teens for two years, serving as secretarytreasurer this year. She has also been a member of the health careers club and a candy striper for three years. Eldonna is a member of the North Webster Church of God youth group and the “Main Street Creation,” the church's singing group. After completing her high school education she plans to work for one year, then go into nurses’ training at Goshen hospital. During the summer months she has been working at the Putt-In miniature golf course. “Cross and, the Switchbladl” is her favorite book. Sewing and cooking are her hobbies. —WHS—LYNN WOOD Lynn Elizabeth Wood is taking government, a semester of psychology', a semester of black history, senior English, concert band, physiology and typing one this year. U.S. government and' band are her faverite subjects. Lynn is the daughter of Mr. and - Mrs. John H. Wood of r 1 Leesburg. She has applied and been accepted to Parkview hospital and the Purdue extension of Fort Wayne. She will start nurses’ training in September. A very active member of the senior class. Lynn has been in chorus one year; band two years; GAA one year; Spanish club one year; science club one year; health careers club one year; Medicorp. working at the Goshen hospital, two years; pep band one year; and drama-debate club one year. She is a charter member of the Thespian Society at Wawasee. She was also a member of the debate team and attended Girls' State. Lynn attended the student leadership conference at Qarmel high school She has an older sister, Mrs. Kye (Barbara) Baughman of Chicago Heights, Ill.; and an older brother. George, a graduate of Purdue university and a registered pharmacist who is currently stationed at Fort Sam Huston. Texas, with the army She worked for eight years as a clerk at the Lynnwood Bakery. Since December she has been a nurse’s aid at the Alfran nursing home in Warsaw. Her favorite sports are high school wrestling and football. Her hobbies include horseback riding, reading and almost all outdoor sports. - WHS—CAROLYN GARDNER Carolyn Lynn Gardner plans to attend college after graduating. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Gardner of r 1 Syracuse. Carolyn is taking government, concert choir. English, physiology, art and one semester of advanced physical education this year. English and government are her favorite subjects. She has been a .member of the art club and GAA for four years, gymnastics team for three years, Spanish club, choir and pompon girls for two years. Her outside activities include snow and water skiing, bowling and football. She has bowling, music' and GAA awards. A sister. Barb, resides in North Webster and is employed at the Wawasee Bowl. Carolyn works at the B & K Drive In. Water skiing, motorcycle riding and riding horses are her favorite sports. "American Tragedy" is her favorite book. Collecting albums and cooking are her hobbies.
