MILFORD Library Notes By Mr*. Dorothea Kerlin Spring is just around the comer (we hope) and it is time for our readers to wake up to the fact that many good new books are available for their reading pleasure, and information. The librarians hope to gain usable information, new ideas and enthusiasm at a workshop to be held Thursday, March 25 at the Goshen public library. The Milford library will be closed that day. Remember the date. Another important week for libraries throughout the United States is National Library Week, April 12-18 with the theme “Reading is For Everybody.” This is the time when service organizations. Mothers clubs, PTO’s etc. throughout the nation, help to promote the use of libraries and their services. It takes more than the library staff and the limited financial funds of the small library to acquaint the public of its use and value. Are YOU a library booster? Mrs. Donn Kesler has been conducting the story hours each Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock with attendance and interest being very good. She wishes to thank the mothers who have been providing treats at various times for the children, who not only enjoy the stories and records, but look forward to the “surprise treat.” The session lasts until approximately 2:45. Since it is quite distracting to have borrowers looking for books at the same time stories are being told, we suggest that you time your visit to the children’s department, or wait upstairs until after 2:45. Many new books for children have been put on the shelves, among which are two sets of books of special interest to parents of pre-school children. One set ‘‘Adventures In Discovery” include well illustrated books on signs, colors, sounds, numbers, sizes, measuring, magic, thinking, shapes, magic, words and wonderland. Another set of

twelve books “Adventures in Living” begins with the child himself and moves gradually outward through his familiar everyday experiences into the wider world around him. There are 12 books in this set. Other beautiful books, illustrated with actual colored photographs are in “Come to Work With Us” series, and the library now has books showing how work is done in house construction. toy factory, airport, aerospace center, TV station and a hospital. Among the new adult books are “Our Brother’s Keeper, The Indian In White America.” by Edgar S. Cahn. One reviewer said of the book “We are told a good deal about Indians, but we are told even more about ourselves.” Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, 1971 winter selections. “Here, Mr. Splitfoot” and informal exploration into modern occultism, by Robert Somerlott. “Hostage in Peking,” by Anthony Grey, is a correspondent’s story of despair, ingenuity, and fortitude in solitary confinement. “Those Inventive Americans” bv the Editors of National Geographic Society. “When the Minister is a Woman,” by Elsie Gibson. This is neither a theological tract nor a piece of special advocacy; it reflects the successful experience of single, married and widowed women who have served as ministers in various denominations. Have you checked over our stereo records? We have some very good classical selections as well as country and western, vocal, groups, etc. Each record may be borrowed for two weeks.
