While we re on the subject of schools and colleges we ll pass along another bit of news that happened our way this week . . . Debra Wolferman. daughter of the Don Wolfermans of near Our Town, is a contestant in the Miss Bali State Pageant. < Debbie is a freshman at the school and is a very pretty young Miss. She is representing Knotts Residence Hall in the contest. For those of you who are in Florida and are thinking about returning to Hoosierland we recommend you stay in the sunshine for awhile longer. We’ve been feeling quite perky of late (must be spring fever) and have even begun our spring house cleaning. The weather last week was almost spring-like with several persons doing some yard work and many other women in Our Town turning their thoughts to spring cleaning. Then came Saturday morning and the rain which turned to snow by night-fall, proving winter is still Upon us. The snow continued to fall throughout the night and Sunday morning a fluffy blanket of snow covered the ground. Sunday there was little change in the weather as snow fell throughout the day adding to Saturday night's accumulation. Snow...snow...snow...at this writing (Monday morning) it’s still snowing. That old man winter just isn’t about to give up! Mrs. Helen H. Funk of Our Town was one of several Penn Controls employees honored recently at the Goshen firm’s 20th annual service award club dinner. Mrs. Funk received a gold watch in recognition of completing 25 years of service for the company.
Our congratulations this week go to the girl scouts of Our Town. They are celebrating their anniversary this week. Correction: The Red Cross office at Warsaw has just informed us they were incorrect on the amount of blood donated over the past several years byMaurice Beer of near Our Town. True, Mr. Beer has donated five gallons as we stated last week, however, he has given more than that. He has given six gallons and five pints of his seventh gallon. All totaled that’s 53 pints. Attorney Robert Reed questioned whether or not the corporation could sell the trees without advertising first and was instructed to check on this. Mr. Lantz was also told to check and see if other bids could be obtained in order to compare prices. The business manager also told the board he had received a request from Bethany Christian high school on renting the Syracuse junior high school gym next year for Bethany’s home basketball games. During the past year the gym has been rented to West Noble for this purpose, however, by the next basketball season West Noble should be in their new high school and will not need to rent Lakeland's gym. Mr. Lantz was instructed to check on actual costs to the corporation when the gym is rented.
