t | The Church... H A hope OF OUR COMMUNITY, OUR NATION! Jac te' ** If we coiild build a fence around the world, would we respect our limitations and live happily with one another? Would we stop wars? Probably not! You can fence in physical objects but not the minds and hearts of mankind. Nor can we be forced to live in peace. Peace comes through practicing love, faith and tolerance—an understanding of God and His Church. Then, remember World Day of Prayer. Determine not to build*a fence around yourself, or around anyone else. Instead, enlarge youyi horizons through the common voice of prayer. What better place to start than in the Church? Wed., Mar. 3, 1971—THE
District Church Meeting Held At Bethel Church The Northern Indiana District of the Church of the Brethren met at noon. February 23 at Bethel Church of the Brethren in Milford. The theme was “The Place of the Old Testament in the Life of the Church.” Robert Neff, Professor of the Old Testament, from Bethany Theological Seminary at Oak Brook, Hl., was the guest speaker. He gave an interesting talk on his concepts of the Old Testament and the church. Questions were presented and answered during the talk. The following interesting points were expressed: 1. The Old Testament speaks to each generation 2. It raises questions urgent to every man. 3. The Bible speaks with variety and must be felt in the congregation. 4. The Old Testament shouldn’t be read by itself and the New Testament cannot be read apart from the Old. The meeting was dosed with Devotions, by Rev. Donald Holshopple on “Reflections on Prayers and singing of hymns. Mrs. Holshopple accompanied on the piano. A was 5 served to 40 ministers and their wives by the Bethel Women’s Fellowship. 'Man' Is Sunday's Theme Man s true nature will be explored at Christian Science services Sunday. Scriptural selections in the Lesson-Sermon on “Man” include this verse from the first chapter of Genesis: “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” A citation to be read from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy states: “Jesus taught but one God, one Spirit, who makes man in the image and likeness of Himself, — of Spirit, not of matter. Man reflects infinite Truth, Life, and Love. The nature of man, thus understood, includes all that is implied by the terms image’ and ‘likeness* as used in Scripture.”
