Minnie Mizers Elect Officers The Syracuse Minnie Mizers met last week at the home of chairman Mrs. Leonard Kauffman at which time election of officers was held as follows: Leader — Mrs. Kauffman Co-leader — Mrs. Jack Dean Secretary — Mrs. Betty Etchison Treasurer — Mrs. Richard Plikerd Weight recorder — Mrs. William Rogers Assistant recorder — Mrs Betty Stump Reporter — Mrs. Tom Sterling Among items discussed were the Tops convention on April 3 at Evansville and the January news letter from Tops Mrs. Plikerd was champion weight loser for the week The group which held their meetings in Jaycee hall at Syracuse is looking for a new meeting place for their Tuesday night meetings and also welcoming new members. Mrs. Etchison will be hostess for the next meeting Mrs. William Bess Hostess To Carefree Mothers Club J Hostess for the January meeting of the Carefree Mothers club of Milford was Mrs. William Bess who also presided at the opening erf the business meeting by welcoming everyone. Roll call was answered by the most important resolution for the New Year The minutes of the previous meeting were read and the treasurer’s report was given by Mrs Pat Meek A discussion was then held about several matters concerning the club. A reading entitled "A Mother s Pledge" was read by Mrs. Ron Cope Mrs. Tom Holderread gave a poem entitled “If. A poem about true day to day life, called the "Cycle”, was offered by Mrs Bess The theme for the evening was pmk roses, the club flower, with each one present receiving a pink rose corsage. Games were played with prizes awarded to Mrs. Max Evans. Mrs Cope and Mrs. Holderread. A centerpiece of pmk roses and pink candles enhanced the table. Refreshments of a salad bar was served by the hostess, assisted byMrs Meek and Mrs. Cope. The next meeting will be held on February 17 at the home of Mrs Evans ANNIVERSARY OBSERVED Mr. and Mrs Louis B Rassi of r 1 Milford observed their 39th wedding anniversary Sunday. Their daughters, husbands, and children honored them at a dinner in a North Webster restaurant Saturday evening. The daughters are Mrs. Harold Yeater of New Paris. Mrs. John Roser of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Steven Baumgartner of Milford. Mr. Rassi and the former Anna Schick erf Gridley. Kans . were married in Milford. MILFORD WOMEN ENJOY TRIP Mrs. Julia Reed. Mrs Helen Wemple and Mrs. Edith Baumgartner enjoyed a recent week end in Nashville with the Wanago club. The ladies attended the Grand Ole Opry and enjoyed a tour of the city which included the Parthanon. the Upper Room, the Music Hall of Fame, Fort Nashville. the Belle Meade stables and other places of interest in the Tennessee city. They left on Friday evening and returned home Sundayevening. Baptist Ladies Hold Birthday Meeting The January meeting of the Christian Women's Fellowship of Wawasee Heights Baptist church at Syracuse was held last week in fellowship hall. There were 30 women attending the "come to your own birthday party” meeting. Mrs. Tom Dorrity reported on missionaries and outlined plans for future missionary projects. Mrs. Larry Miller reported on the Shephard Children’s Home. Mrs. Deloss Martin encouraged all present to continue writing to servicemen of the area and passed out cards with various addresses. Mrs. Keith Koble, president, gave the prayers, scripture reading and the lesson regarding a descriptive contrast of what Christians believe and of what the modem day cult believes. Gives Solo Miss Carla Kaiser presented a solo and also accompanied Mrs. Miller for group singing. Birthday cake and salads were served by hostesses Mrs. Koble, Mrs. Larry Price, Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Rebecca Kitson. The tables, in keeping with the birthdays of all four seasons, were also enhanced with flowers and candles in white candle holders. February hostesses will be Mrs. Dennis Bjjella and Mrs. Hubert Dunithan. Senior Mothers Enjoy Program On Hoosier State The Syracuse Senior Mothers club met Monday night at Calvary United Methodist church for a scenic tour of Indiana as presented by conservation officer Earl Money. There were 13 members responding to roll call. Mrs. Fredona Passarelli and Mrs. John LeCount were guests. The wise party hostess often offers her guests, choices. For instance, she can serve those who must count calories a refreshing, but lower-caloried, fruit dessert. Along with it she can serve a luscious dessert such as cherry meringue torte. which is wickedly rich, but makes wonderful eating. The cake layers of the torte are baked with a meringue topping and frosted with a mixture of chopped maraschino cherries and whipped cream Chopped pecans add crunchy goodness to the top laver of the torte. TROPICAL FRUIT BOWL 2 large bananas. 3 large persimmons, % cup fresh orange juice, 3 tbsps fresh V ■”* SUMMER WEDDING PLANNED — Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Werner of Knox announce the engagement of their daughter. Patricia Gay, to Stephen Replogle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Replogle of Milford. The bride-elect is a IM9 graduate of Knox high school and will graduate from International junior college at Fort Wayne in March. Replogle, who graduated from Milford high school in 1968. is a graduate of International college. A July wedding is being planned.
lemon juice. 1 tbsp, sugar. cup grated fresh coconut, guava jelly for garnish. Peel and slice banan*as. Peel persimmons, if desired. Cut in half, remove center cores and dice. Combine fruits with orange and lemon juice and sugar. Chill. Add coconut and pile into a glass bowl or sherbert glasses. Top with a dab of guava jelly. Makes 5 to 6 servings. CHERRY MERINGUE TORTE cup unsifted flour, 1 tsp. baking powder, % tsp. salt. 4 cup (1 stick) margarine, softened, m cups sugar, 4 eggs, separated, 1 tsp. vanilla extract. 3 tbsps. milk. v 4 cup chopped pecans. V 4 cup chopped maraschino cherries, 1 cup heavy cream, whipped. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. Cream margarine and % cup sugar until very light. Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each adBunco Club Holds January Meeting Mrs. Donald Niles was hostess for the January meeting of the Twilighters Bunco club at Syracuse with Mrs. Tim Darr as co-hostess. dition. Beat in vanilla extract; set aside. ’ — Beat egg whites until frothy. Gradually beat in remaining 1 cup sugar. .Continue beating until soft peaks form; set aside. Alternately blend sifted dry ingredients and milk into creamed margarine mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Spread into 2 greased 9-inch round cake pans. Spread meringue mixture evenly over batter to within 4 inch of pan edge. Sprinkle one layer with pecans. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes, or until done. Cool in pans on wire racks. Gently loosen edges with spatula before removing from pans. Fold cherries into whipped cream. Use to fill and frost sides of layers starting with plain meringue layer, top side up Top with second layer, cake side down. Makes one 9-inch cake. WRC To Have Open Installation The Women’s Relief Corps of Syracuse will hold open installation at 7:30 Monday evening in the Legion hall. Members and friends are invited to attend. Torrance-Myers Wedding Rites Read At First Presbyterian Church, Marion
Miss Alice Joan Torrance and Royce James Myers were united in marriage Saturday at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Stewart Saul in the First Presbyterian church at Marion. Parents of the bridal couple are Mr. and Mrs. Chester Warren of Syracuse and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry W. Torrance. Jr., of 1515 Overlook Read. Marion. Satin and Lace The bride chose for her wedding an A-line silhouette gown of satin and re-embroidered lace featuring a high neckline and bodice. The Victorian sleeves of striped satin were accented with lace appliques. Her chapel length train was of satin with appliques and the elbow length veil was of pure silk imported English illusion, attached to a satin clip bow with lace and pearl trim. Her flowers were white roses centered with a white orchid. Miss Marianne Torrance, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor in a floor length light blue voile gown accented with white lace and peacock blue velvet bows. She wore a matching velvet bow headdress. Martha Lu Torrance and Miss Catherine Torrance, also sisters of the bride, were bridesmaids. Their gowns were identical to the maid of honor and each carried a nosegay of white carnations accented with the peacock blue velvet ribbon. Jerry Myers, Syracuse, served his brother as best man. Reception Following the ceremony, a reception followed in the home of the bride’s parents. Mrs. Myers is a graduate of Marion high school and Gulf Park college at Gulf Port, Miss., and she attended International Business college, at Fort Wayne. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority, Sigma Psi lota college sorority and the B. T. chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
