n Karl K. McGarvey Funeral services were held Saturday at Goshen for Karl K McGarvey. 73. of r 4 Syracuse. Death was due to pneumonia and ' complications and came at 7:30 Wednesday evening. Jan 13. at Goshen hospital. Mr. McGarvey was born on ' April 8. 1897 at Goshen to Dr William and Minnie O. McGar vey. He was united in marriage hi October 1921 to Lena Battie at Kokomo and she survives A graduate of Goshen high school. Mr McGarvey was an engineering graduate of Indiana university. He became associated with the AC Spark Plug Company at Flint. Mich., in 1925 and transferred to Detroit in 1928. returning to Flint in 1952 as an equipment sales manager. He retired September 1. 1958 and returned to the Wawasee area to live 12 years ago. Mr. McGarvey was also affiliated with the Apperson Brothers Automobile Company at Kokomo. Pilot Motor Car Co., Richmond. Consolidated Oil at Princeton and Haynes Automobile Co of Kokomo before joining AC He served in WWI from 1917 19 attaining the rank of first lieutenant < He was a member of the Syracuse Wawaset* Rotary club, Goshen Elks. lietroit Athletic club, other Detroit clubs and lodges. Fellowship Masonic Lodge 490 at Flint. Scottish Rite. Valley of Detroit, Moslem Shrine Temple at Detroit and the Kosciusko County Shrine club Surviving with the widow is a cousin. week. She was born in Jefferson township. Noble county, on September 7, 1892, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin A. Belt. Her husband,. Frank Lemmon, preceded her in death on November 12,1966. She resided in the Albion community most of her life. Surviving in addition to the Syracuse daughter are two sons and one other daughter. Mrs. Jack (Edith) Miller of Ligonier. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Albion. Dr. Jose ; Ramirez-Olivella Funeral services were held Friday at Wakarusa for Dr. Jose Ramirez-Olivella. 71. father of, Mrs Carlos O. (Dolores) Aballi. The Aballis are former Spanish teachers in the Lakeland school system. Dr Ramirez-Ollivella died at 5:30 Thursday morning at his Mishawaka home. i A medical doctor who was allowed to leave Cuba due to illness, he came to this county in 1967 as a Cuban refugee first making his residence at Syracuse and later with the Aballis in Elkhart and then Mishawaka. He had been in failing health for five years. The doctor was born in Havana March 2. 1891 to Jose Ramirez and Dolores Olivella. On November 17.1917, he was united in marriage to Dolores Franes and she died in 1945. He was married in 1948 to Luisa Pineiro and she survives Dr. Ramirez-Olivella was in practice until leaving Cuba and a professor of gynecology at the Havana University Medical School He was a member of the Academy of Medical Science of Cuba, Medical Association of Havana, medical associations in Mexico. Chile. Venezuela. Argentina and Uruguay and the author of a number of obstetric textbooks He was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic church at Mishawaka. He is survived by the widow) Mishawaka daughter, one other daughter of Rio Piedras, P R.: five grandchildren, and two sisters Burial was in Olive cemetery. January 18. of heart failure, after being in failing health for the past year. He was born in Fulton county. April 25. 1903, to John and Effie (Hartman) Shriver. Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. John (Pat) Carroll of Pierceton; Mrs. James (Rosalie) W r hite of North Webster; and six grandchildren. , Calling hours are after 2 p. m. Tuesday. At 8 pm. Tuesday evening Masonic services will be teid at the Wyman funeral home. Services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. with Rev. Uhrick officiating. At this time the place of burial not available. Charles C. Fields Funeral services were held Saturday for Charles Chester Fields. 72. of Warsaw and brother of Mrs Paul (Elsie) Wolfe of North Webster. He passed away Thursday morning at Elkhart hospital of complications following a one-year illness. A retired brick mason. Mr. Fields was born on October 22. 1898 at Wabash, the son of Charles and Viva (Murphy) Fields. A Kosciusko county resident most of his life, he was united in marriage on September 2. 1921 to Dorothy Smith and she survives. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church at Atwood. Surviving in addition to the widow and sister are two other sisters, Mrs. Fied (Lois) Bartol of Warsaw and Mrs. Lloyd (Mary) Wolf. Elkhart. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery Wave A. Cook Funeral services were held Sunday for Wave A. Cook, 66, Columbia City business man who died Thursday evening at the Whitley County hospital. Rev. Graham Kleespie officiated at the finhl rites. Burial was in the South Park Cemetery at Columbia City. Mr. Cook was president of W. A. Cook & Sons, Inc., operating with his son. Jack, a bowling alley in Columbia City. He was also the founder and operator of the Cook Trucking company for about 30 years prior to his retirement from the firm. The bowling alley was started in 1950 and later a restaurant and lounge were added. The restaurantlounge was sold last May to Fred Clark. Jr., of North Webster and Charles Frushour ( of Syracuse. He was born at Newtown. Mo., May 23. 1904 to Lyman and Julia (Powell) Cook. He moved to the Columbia City community while still a young man and resided there continuously until his death Survivors include the tvidow, the former Blanche E. Tucker; two sons. Eugene and Jack, both of Columbia City; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren. and one brother, Tide Cook of LaPorte. Mrs. Jean E. (Bernice) Hart Mrs. Jean E. (Bernice) Hart. 75. of Warsaw, died Tuesday, Jan 12. at a South Bend hospital where she had been a patient for several weeks. Mrs Hart was born in Washington township. August 10, 1895. daughter of Robert W. and Dora (Wagner) Orr. She was married June 29. 1917, in Warsaw. to Jean E Hart, who survives Mrs. Hart was a member of the Pierceton Methodist church. In addition to her husband she is survived by one son. Robert L. Hart of Warsaw; one daughter. Mrs. Lloyd (Betty) Smith of Leesburg; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, one sister. Mrs. Harry (Fae) Hale of ° Anderson; three brothers. Earl E Orr of Pierceton. Rex H. Orr of Greenfield and Robert K. Orr of Detroit, Mich ■ Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Services were conducted Thursday at a Warsaw funeral home and burial was in the Oakwood cemetery. Rev. David P. Gasser officiated the service.

William M. Smith William M. Smith. 80. of . Nappanee and stepfather of Mrs. LaMar jOpal) Stoops of Syracuse, passed away early Monday morning at Goshen hospital where he had been a patient for two days. He had been in failing health for three weeks. Mr. Smith was born in NewLondon, Ohio, on August 3. 1890 and was united in marriage to Claudia Snyder in 1919. She died in of 1941 and he married Bessie Walters April 1, 1959. She survives. Mr. Smith was a farmer. having retired in 1962. Surviving in addition to the widow and stepdaughter are three sons, Robert of Goshen. Richard, Goshen and Bruce of Elkhart; one other stepdaughter, Mrs. Enid Brunso of Nappanee; six grandchildren; five step-granchildren; three great-grandchildren and 10 stepgreat -grandchildren. Services were held today (Wednesday) and burial was in Violett cemetery. August (Gus) Lundquist August (Gus) Lundquist. 70. of Youngstown, Ohio, father of Rev. August Lundquist. Jr., of Syracuse, died January 13 as result of a stroke. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Surviving with the Syracuse son are the widow. Mary; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Lilan) Berlin of Bristol and Mrs. David (Lucille) Dunfee of r 2 Pierceton; three stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren. Services were at Youngstown, Ohio. Robert H. Davis Robert H. .Davis, 74, of r 1 Leesburg died Monday at 6 p.m. at the Veterans Administration hospital at Marion where he had been a patient since November 14. 1970. He was the son of John and Rachel (Hastings) Davis and was born July 21, 1896 at Fairmount. He was a veteran of WWI, serving with the navy. On October 30, 1924 he married Lillian Rhoades who survives. Moving from Fairmount to Kosciusko county in 1942. he was a retired farmer, past commander of the Leesburg American Legion, a member of John a C. Peterson Post 49, American. Legion, Warsaw, the 40 et 8 and the Leesburg United Methodist church. Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. James (Martha) Ross and Mrs. Richard (Mary) Higgins, both of Warsaw; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the McHatton furneral home, Warsaw, Rev. Donald Abbey, assisted by Rev. David P. Gosser. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery where John C. Peterson Post 49, American Legion will conduct military graveside rites. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Thursday until the hour of service on Friday. The 1970 distribution report was read and noted the town had drawn $3,500 to $4,000 last year from interest on time certificates. Ordinance 71-1 was passed in regard to borrowing of funds and transfer making available monies for a newly purchased snow blade. Special Session During the special session of the town board of trustees on December 29, the following officers were appointed for the 1971 year: Orville Vanderßeyden, marshal; Harley Conrad, street, water and sewer commissioner; Harry VanHemert, building commissioner; Robert Reed, town attorney and plan commission attorney; Tom Strickler, fire chief; Carl Myrick, First assistant; Bob Penick, second assistant; Larry Weaver, captain; Joe Hughes, lieutenant and John VanLue, secretarytreasurer. Harley Conrad, now convalescing at his home following his release from the hospital, was placed on one-half salary for the weeks he is incapacitated.
