Wawasee Crushed By Plymouth, Takes Lions

By JOHN BAHN The Wawasee Warriors met the Plymouth five last Friday and were crushed 105-73. The following evening they played Bremen s Lions and came away with a 69-48 victory Friday the Warriors were flattened by Plymouth’s esin shooting and tex the Warriors own inability to adjust to the gymnasium floor Plymouth's Steve Phillips scored 43 points and was high man for the evening Warrior John Hamilton scored 27 of Wawasee's total Phillips thundered through the second quarter with 25 points for the Plymouth team Wawasee’s defence held well during the game except in this quarter when Plymouth ‘ jumped ahead separating the score by 41 points Wawasee’s offense was poor except in the fourth when Wawasee scored a high of 26 points The Warriors hit 17 free throws with Plymouth topping this by hitting 27 Wawasee made 22 personal fouls during the game with Plymouth committing only 18 The Warriors suffered a set back when Mark Thomas suffered a broken ankle during practice and will be off the team for an indefinite period of time.

Syracuse To Host Junior High School Tournament Saturday

This Saturday, Jan. 16, four eighth grade basketball teams will meet in the annual Lakeland 4-Way Tourney with action to be in the Syracuse gymnasium. Milford. North Webster and Syracuse will be joined by Central Noble. Milford is regarded as the favorite, having lost only one of nine games thus far. and having defeated the other teams in the Saturday play. Syracuse has rebounded to win four straight games after losing

Wawasee Wrestlers Smash North Wood

The varsity won 3J to 11 with the junior varsity winning 34-13. Results follow: WT. Wrestlers Defeat Rochester 35-17

In the varsity match Dan Doll pinned Furnival in the 100 pound class only 33 seconds into the second period. In the 107 pound weight class Mark Treesh pinned Floor with 44 seconds left in the second period. In the 114 pound weight class Chip Dye decisioned Baldwrin 130. In the 121 pound weight class Jay deSomer pinned Sutton with fe seconds left in the first period. In the 128 pound weight class Steve Coburn was decisioned by McKee 5-0. in the 134 pound weight class John Leitz was pinned by Garver with seconds left in the first period. In the 140 weight class Jim Marlette decisioned Wagner 9-6. In the 147 pound weight class Wes Kilmer tied Jones 9-9. Saturday, at the Syracuse junior high school gym. The Warriors defeated Huntington Catholic 73-55 to win the championship. Tim Saylors, White’s 6*B” center, led the winners with 17 pants. White’s advanced to the final game by edging Wawasee Prep, 83-76, in the second game of the afternoon session. Wawasee Prep led throughout much of the second half, but White's superior height took its toll. Big Tim Saylors led the winners with 43 pants. Wawasee Prep returns to action Friday night, when they travel to Donaldson to take on Divine Heart. Saturday night, the Lakers again take the road. They travel to Indianapolis for a game with Indianapolis Latin.
