The prospective bridegroom is a 1961 graduate of Syracuse high school and served four years in the United States air force. New Year’s eve where they attended a party given by a Warsaw firm. Their daughter Jill spent the night with Janet Vanator. An evening caller was Mrs. Ermal Vanator Philip Ball, son of Mrs. Sondra Ball, was admitted to the Goshen hospital for minor surgery. Families Host Nica Guests

Nine Nicaraguan young persons are being hosted in as many homes in the area for the month of January under Goshen college’s international education program Two of these are staying in the Lakeland area. A tenth Nicaraguan, EU)y Hodgson, has won a full-tuition scholarship and is enroßed as a full-time student at the college for the entire trimester. Seven of the Central Americans will be visiting classes at local high schools. Two will be sampling life and classes at Goshen college. Host families and area high schools are: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Snyder, of 208 S. Arrived Last Month The Nicaraguan students flew to the United States with Goshen college students returning from Central America in midDecember. The GC students, who had just completed 14 weeks in study and field experience there for college credit, hosted them at their homes until the winter college trimester . began yesterday. The Nicas will return home by air on January 29. Families and high schools now have an opportunity to reciprocate and return the gracious hospitality offered the college students. • All the high schools willingly arranged for the Nica guests to visit their classes for a month. Bethany Christian, Fairfield and Wawasee high schools generously offered their services to find families of pupils who wanted to Ijost the guests. Want to Leirn English During the month the college will host the group on a couple field trips, including one to Chicago. Recreation and social activities are also planned. Wherever they are. the Nicas are eager to improve their English and see the United States.

The Nicaraguans comprise the second group to visit the States under a special reciprocal agreement. A group of young persons from Costa Rica visited the States in a similar reciprocity program in the summers of 1969 and spent several weeks sight" seeing and visiting. Since January, 1969, Goshen college has sent about 20 to 25 students each trimester to Nicaragua for study and service. The students stay in homes and eat two meals a day with their “family”; study the language, culture, history, geography and religions of the country for seven weeks; and then seA-e in a Peace Corps-type assignment in some on-going national program for the second seven weeks. A faculty couple from the college is ; based in Managua, the capital, to lead and oversee each unit of students. The only way to conquer fear is to keep doing the thing you fear to do.

Donald Smiths Vacation In'Florida For Holidays Donald D. Smith and family of Syracuse were holiday guests in the homes of his brother, Lowell ; Smith of Valrico. Fla., and niece, Mrs. Cle Foster of Tampa, Fla. „ A party was held on December 29 at the Kapok Tree, Clearwater, in celebration of Mr. Smith's birthday with the following in attendance: Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Smith, Jeff and Brenda; Mr. and Mrs. Cle Foster, Lawrence Hunt, Susie McDonald and Vince Hamada and the honored guest and Vicki, x Roger, Doug and Terri.
