Com Banquet On January 11 The annual Elkhart county corn banquet and 4-H corn achievement program will be held January 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Union Center Church of the Brethren. The public is invited to attend and see who raised the top corn and soybean yields in the county this year. Both senior and junior members will receive recognition in this official yield contest sponsored by the Indiana Crop Improvement Association. Yields are determined according to the state rules by harvesting at least one acre of corn or soybeans from within the 10 acre contest field. Yields are computed on a shelled basis of No. 2 corn. The 1970 4-H Corn King will be announced. Several trophies will be presented by commercial firms to individuals with top yields in senior and junior divisions using their hybrid seed, fertilizer of chemicals in the production of their crop. The corn committee will provide trophies to the top junior and senior yield winners in both irrigated and nonirrigated divisions of the contests. The Goshen high school Crimsonaires will entertain with a most enjoyable, musical program. The Crimsonaires, a mixed choral group, is under the direction of G. Merril Swartley. Tickets may be purchased from- 1 members of the corn committee, Goshen Implement Company and at the County Extension Office. New Year's Resolutions You Can Keep LAFAYETTE - Most New Year's resolutions are made only to be broken. But Billie Ellsworth, extension clothing and textile specialist at Purdue university, offers these practical, achievable resolutions any woman would do well to consider and keep: I resolve never to skip a bath, no matter how late or tired I am. 1 resolve always to remove make-up before going to bed so that my face will have a chance to breathe. 1 resolve to always remove old make-up before I apply new make-up. I resolve to brush my hair everyday, and to shampoo every week — more often if it beings to look limp. And I will wash by brush and comb at the same time. I resolve to give myself a weekly manicure and pedicure to keep my hands and feet looking - and feeling- their best. 1 resolve to apply hand lotion and push back cuticle each time hands have been in water. * I resolve to put on clean hose and lingerie every morning — without exception. 1 resolve to have only clean clothes in my closet, so I will never get into a “nothing to wear” situation. If I can’t wash a dress or blouse when I take it off, I will jut it in the laundry hamper — not in the closet! 1 resolve always to clean shoes before putting them away, so they will be ready for the next wearing. I resolve to eat the proper foods to keep by body in a healthy condition. I resolve to get enough exercise to be physically fit. I :•! facts about | WR TOWN’ Milford, Ind. By JERI SEELY • t Cheers to 711 And may each day be rich in health and happiness for you and your entire family. Visitors Sunday at the Milford United Methodist church were Rev. and Mrs. Claude Garrison. Rev. Garrison is the district superintendent of the Columbus. Ohio area of the United Methodist church and will be remembered by some residents of Our Town as he was a minister here in the late 1920’5. A letter to the bossman from Mr. and Mrs. Alva V. Stout informs persons in Our Town of the birth of a great-grandson to the Stouts a few months back. The young man’s picture was used on the family Christmas card which was signed Joel, David, Stout Gould. Alva Stout will be remembered as a former Milford school principal and long-time resident of the area. Mrs. Stout is the former Ethel Neff, a member of the 1913 graduating class at Milford. She is an accomplished artist and instructor. The Stouts currently reside in West Palm Beach, Fla. How many of our readers were dreaming of “A White Christmas’’ as we were? For those of you who are enjoying the warm sunshine of the southern states we did have snow on Christmas ‘although the* weatherman was a little slow in sending it. ; It began to snow between 9 and 10 a.m. on Christmas morning and by 11 a.m. the ground was covered. By the time friend husband and 1 began our journey to Michigan he was beginning to wish that my Christmas wish hadn’t come true this year. The snow followed ns all the way to Tecumseh and his sister and her family had an unexpected White Christmas too! One of our little birds informs us of an unusual gift presented to a Milford woman this Christmas. It’s a gilted lobster tail. Actually the lobster tail has been decorated as a Christmas tree ornament as we understand it and is complete with ribbons and all the trimmings. I for one can’t wait to see this unusual Christmas decoration. Maybe it’s something everyone should have hanging from the Christmas tree next year. Happy New Year! LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Dewart spent Christinas Jay with their daughter and her family, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Ferguson of Oswego.
