Warsaw Man On POW List A Warsaw family held mixed emotions as their son s, name appeared on a prisoner of war list released by Hanoi last night The parents of the young Viet Nam prisoner are Mr. and Mrs. John (“Jack") P Burns, of 1702 Sheridan street, Warsaw, and their son is Michael Thomas Burns, 26 Michael's name appeared on the prisoner of war list which was released by Hanoi last Christmas. the mother of Michael said this morning Released To Senators Hanoi released the long list of prisoner's names to Massachusetts senator Edward Kennedy. Missouri senator William Fulbright. both Democrats, and to Rene Davis, the radical revolutionary who figured among the "Chicago 7." Releasing the names in this manner appears to be an overt attempt by Hanoi to stir up discontent in America over the Viet Nam war. The Nixon administration has made no comment about the release of names so far today. Television and newspapers will release the complete list of prisoners today Among the list are three from Indiana, including Second" Lieutenant Michael Thomas Bums of Warsaw, A DePauw Grad Michael Bums graduated from Bishop Luers high school in Fort Wayne in 1962 and DePauw university in Greencastle m 1966 He was a star football player both m high school and college He entered the service shortly after graduation from college and went into flight school He was shot down July 5.1968. while flying an F 4 with a Lt. Colonel over North Viet Nam, his mother related today. He is not married Is Treated Well Mrs Bums said she and her husband have received a number of letters from their son, the first being last Christmas They have had six letters since Sept I. three of them in October and one in November In his letters. Michael states he is being treated well and asks his parents not to be discouraged Mrs Burns states her son has received their letters and packages Mr and Mrs Bums have five sons and two daughters Their oldest son. John Patrick. Jr.. 28. served in the air force but is nowout of the service, living in Fort Wayne Another son. Thomas, 21. has been in Viet Nam but is now home on leave He was injured in Viet Nam. but it was when he fell while taking cover He broke a leg but has made full recovery Candlelight Service To Be Held Thursday Milford residents are reminded that the United Methodist church will be celebrating a Christmas Eve candlelighting worship beginning at .11:15 p m on December 24. Area residents are invited to join local United Methodists in recognizing Christ’s birth in this very meaningful ceremony. The service will conclude promptly at midnight as the Christmas flame is passed from the altar candle and distributed to each member of the congregation CRUSHER NOW IN USE AT SYRACUSE Sam's Syracuse Iron and Metal Co., in Syracuse, has a crasher at its yard this week and next for use by anyone wishing to get rid of old junk cars. The cars to be crushed are to be taken to the company yard. Syracuse police chief Orville Vanderßeyden has ask cooper at ion in getting rid of oM cars sitting in the area.

TWO FROM SYRACUSE KILLED THIS MORNING Two young people from the Syracuse community, Carla Singrey. 19 and Jamison Mauzy. 22, were killed early this morning when their car was hit by a truck on U.S. 6 north of Syracuse. Story on pag£ 7 of this issue. Two Treated At Hospital After Accident Two persons were treated at Goshen hospital following a twovehicle accident four miles south of Syracuse on the afternoon of December 16 on the state road at a curve near South Shore Golf club. Deputy sheriff Ron Robinson—\ investigated with damages list/ed at $2,050. 7 A 1964 GMC truck being driven by David L. Williams of 706 east Baltimore street, Syracuse, skidded on slippery pavement following a near blinding snow and into the path of a 1969 Dodge two-door driven by Anthony Guidone, 55, of r 3 Syracuse. - Guidone was unable to prevent the accident. A passenger in the Guidone car. Ann Beck, 56, r 1 Warsaw, was treated for a fracture of the right wrist and bruises of the ankle and cheek. Guidone sustained injuries of the rib, arm, elbow and hip. Extent of damage to the Guidone auto was listed at $1,400. No Injuries In Monday Accident Damages amounted to $435 in a two-car accident at 4:30 Monday afternoon at the north edge of Syracuse. There were no injuries. Police estimated damage to a 1968 Lincoln belonging to Mrs. Nancy L. Schrock. 34. of r 1 Syracuse, at $3lO. Mrs. Schrock stopped for a stop sign on High street and was hit by a 1967 Chevrolet being driven by David L. Henson. 15. of Milford as Henson attempted a right turn off of north Huntington onto High. Damage to the Chevrolet was $125. Henson was ticketed for driving without an operator’s license and Darrell E. Johnson, owner of the Chevrolet, was ticketed for permitting a violation. Christmas Drawings Made By Students Special drawings appear elsewhere in this issue of The Mail—Journal. They were made by students in the elementary and junior high schools of the Lakeland Community School Corporation. Each picture published in the paper gives the student a $1 prize, giving the students an incentative to try extra hard. The theme of the year was “What Christmas Means to Me.” The staff of the paper would like to thank the Lakeland art teachers who cooperated with us on this project. So while you browse through this issue of Christmas Greetings from the area merchants and businessmen enjoy the pictures drawn especially for you by the youngsters of the Lakeland area. ORDINATION SERVICE HELD ON SUNDAY An ordination service was hfcld Sunday at the Milford Christian church with pastor Carl Shearer presiding. Elders participating in the service were Leon Tucker, Carl Duncan and Harry Good. Ordained were John Replogle as elder and Mike Sheetz as deacon. These men will join other elders and deacons in serving the ** congregation and conducting the official business of the church.
