Wawasee Warriors Clip Warsaw And Triton
By JOHN BAHN The Wawasee Warriors - >unded the Warsaw Tigers last t iday evening to defeat the Tigers by a score of 70-61. On Saturday they traveled to Triton anti clipped the Trojans 62-67. The win over Warsaw on Friday was the second of the year as the swimming team won the first victory over the Tigers 48-46 Warsaw tied Wawasee in football this year. Wawasee's Tim Blue led the Warriors off to score first during the initial quarter. Although Wawasee held the lead in sewing Warsaw quickly took over half way through the quarter. Warsaw’s Brian Essenburg lead in individual scoring with three field goals. Teammate Tom Wiltrout followed with two field goals. The score at the end of the first quarter was Warsaw 15 — Wawasee 11. Wawasee again led off in scoring in the second quarter aSy Dave Elliott made a foul shot 1 Warrior John Hamilton led in individual scoring with three field goals and two foul shots Behind Hamilton was Elliott with two field goals and two foul shots Wawasee's offense, pushed harder in the second quarter with the defense following behind In the third quarter Wawasee started to lag in offense and defense but pushed ahead mainly from fouls committed by Warsaw. Tiger Brian Essenburg fouled out in the third . pushing out of the game one of Warsaw's better players Warsaw’s Greg Johnson led in individual scoring with four field goals and one freethrow Warsaw’s fouling gave Wawasee nine points from the freethrow line, however, the Warriors scored only four field goals in the quarter. Warsaw again lost a good deal of points in the fourth quarter from fouling with Wawasee receiving 14 points from the field goals with only two field goals. Warsaw scored 14 points from the field and five points in free throws. Wawasee lacked offensive and defensive power during the fourth quarter, however, Warsaw again lost a better player in the fourth as Greg. Johnson fouled out of the game. Triton, however, led in foul shots as they hit for four with Wawasee leading in field goals totaling 14 points. Wawasee's offense was good with the defense following close behind. Wawasee Draws Penn In 4-Way Tourney At Goshen
Wawasee’s Warriors will meet Penn high school in the second game of a four-way tourney set to be played in Goshen on Saturday, Jan. 2. In the first game of the afternoon, set to begin at 12:30 p.m., Goshen will meet DeKalb. The Wawasee-Penn game is set to start at 2 p.m. Evening sessions are at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Announcements from Wawasee high school this week stated fan bus tickets will be 75 cents each with tourney tickets to be $2 and
Prep Splits Weekend Play Wawasee Prep split its two varsity basketball games this past week end. • On Friday night, the Lakers traveled to White’s Institute, where they dropped an 81-57 decision. On Saturday night. Prep played host to Howe Military. The Lakers outlasted the visiting Cadets, 74-66. At White’s on Friday night, the Lakers again felt the loss of senior, Mike Elward and jsw. Rick Mertz, both out with ankle injuries. White’s led at halftime by only five points, 37-32. However, Sylvester Allen picked up his fourth foul early in the third quarter to further handicap the Laker offense. In that quarter. White’s outscored the Lakers, 23-10, to pull away to a 6042 lead. White’s 6’B” center. Tim Saylors, was high point man for the evening, scoring 24 points, while forward. Greg Boaz, added 20. Greg Anderson got 16 points for the Lakers, while Syl Allen added 11, far below his 23 points-a-game average. Saturday night’s game was close throughout. Prep led at the first quarter, 20-17; at the half, 36-33; and at the end of three quarters. 58-51. Sylvester Allen was back in true scoring form, bagging 27 points for the evening and grabbing 20 rebounds. Greg Anderson added 16, while Terry Bonds and Ed Binzel chipped in 14 and 10 points respectively. Rich Hobbs was high for Howe with 21. • Wawasee Prep’s record now stands at three wins and four losses. Wednesday night, Dec. 16, Prep returns to action, hosting Wheeler high school from near Valparaiso. Junior varsity action will get underway at 7:15 while the varsity game will be played at 8:30 Prep Wini One Loses One In Week End Play Wawasee Prep won its second game of the season Friday night, December 4, downing LaLumiere Prep School at LaPorte, 63-53. The Lakers led at all quarter stops. At the end of the first quarter, the schore was 18-11, half-time the Lakers led 29-19, and increased their lead to 44-31 at the three-quarter mark. Mike Elward, senior forward from Wabash, and Sylvester Allen, sophomore center from Chicago, were the big guns for Prep, as both tossed in 20-points. The inexperience of the team showed early, as Bethany, Christian jumped to a 15-point half-time lead. 39-24. The Braves extended their lead to 22-points for 49-27 midway through the third quarter, but at that point the Lakers staged a comeback attempt. With 2:30 left in the game, Bethany held a slim 60-58 edge. However, several costly fouls hurt the Lakers' chances and Bethany Christian went on to post a 68-62 victory. Sylvester Allen, the outstanding center of the Lakers. • was the high scorer of the game with 29-points, hitting H-field goals and seven-free throws. Allen also nabbed 22-rebounds. Lavale Montgomery added 14 points for the losers, but Prep missed the scoring punch of Mike Elward and Rick Mertz. Junior Play Wawasee Prep’s junior varisty split the two games played last week end. On Friday night, the little Lakers pounded LaLumiere’s reserves, 52-13. However, Saturday night Bethany Christian’s ”B” squad edged Prep, 43-42. The little Lakers now stand at 3-2 for the season.

At the end of the first stop, it was 9-7 and at the end of the half it was 20-7. As the third quarter ended 30-14 and the final tally showed a 20-point gap, 37-17. This puts North Webster’s record at two wins and no losses High scorer for North Webster was Kevin Coy with 16 points, followed by Rick McCool with seven. Bill Rensberger with six, Dennis Likens with four and Steve Wilson with two.
