14 YEARS AGO. DEC. 20,1956 Clyde B. Hamilton. 42, and son, Paul. 13, were involved in a serious car-truck accident on road 15 and Elkhart county road 50, three miles north of Milford, at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. Both were taken to the Goshen hospital. Mr. Hamilton suffered four broken ribs, a kidney injury, facial cuts, and bruises. Paul suffered cuts on the head and face. Miss Maurine Smith, a senior at Milford high school, has been chosen to represent the school in the annual Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship contest. She is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. W. Harlan Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Hoy Jones entertained friends at a dinnerparty at their home on west Emeline street Saturday evening. Following turkey dinner canasta was played with high score going to Mrs. Wayne Bucher and Glen Treesh, and low to Mrs. Delbert Dippon and Lowell Barkey. Mrs. Arch Baumgartner received a birthday gift. Others present were Mr. Bucher, Mrs. Treesh. Mr. Dippon, Mrs. Barkey, Mr? Baumgartner. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kaiser, Mr. and Mrs. John Fisher, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Weisser. The junior class of the Apostolic Christian church was entertained by the teacher, Emanuel Steffen, at his home in Dunlap, Sunday afternoon. After spending several hours caroling, a delicious chili supper was served to the young people by Mrs. Steffen. A gift exchange was enjoyed by Mary Jane Beer, Ilene Kammerer, Mary Zimmerman, Susan Beer, Joyce Rassi. Anne Lee Price. Alvin Haab, Robert Brooks. Steven Kaiser. Tom Price, Glenn Price, Jr., John Martin, and Donald Haab. 24 YEARS AGO. DEC. 19,1946 While Jacob Kern, Jr., was hunting Monday forenoon, he shot a large red fox. It was in a wheat field on his farm about four miles out on the Milford-Syracuse road. The Women's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. S. E. Ellison. Mrs. John Helminger had charge of the worship service and gave the story, ‘ The Strange Christmas Dinner.” Mrs. T. R. Cunningham conducted the gift exchange. The fellowship committee. Mrs. Ellison, Mrs. Ray Miller. Mrs Joseph Judkins, served refreshments. The nursery department of the Methodist Sunday school had a Christmas party Tuesday after school at the home of Mrs. Arlo Beiswanger. Santa Claus was the chief attraction. Fifty were present to enjoy Santa, refreshments. and a ten cent book exchange. The Syler Elevator company of Nappanee came to Katie’s tea room Tuesday for a Christmas, dinner. Eighteen representatives from different towns were present. Fern Traster, Indiana university student, attended the Milford-Fort Wayne basketball game at Fort Wayne Friday night, then came to Milford for a short visit with his uncles, Floyd and Royce Fuller, and wives. Fem is majoring in physical education. Dr. T. S. Schuldt of Pierceton, county health officer, and the county nurse. Miss Dorothy Gottschalk, were at the Milford school Wednesday to give the second diptheria immunization. Fifty-five members of the Lions club met at the Milford Case Monday night. Arlo Beiswanger, program chairman, showed two moving pictures. They were ‘‘The Bell Heard Round the World,” the story of

The Lions raised s6l for school band uniforms. 30 YEARS AGO, DEC. 19,1940 Miss Dorothy Louise Stuckman, 23, a former resident of Goshen, was instantly killed Sunday afternoon in an automobile accident at Lodi, Ohio, 20 miles north of Ashland, Ohio, where she was engaged in teaching school. Miss Stuckman, a niece of James Stuckman, is quite well known in Milford. The marriage of Miss Aline Berger of Goshen and Harley L. Haab. son of Mrs. Theodore Haab of near New Paris, was solemnized Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the home of the bride’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hardey, in Mishawaka. Mr. and Mrs. Haab will reside three miles south of New Paris, where Mr Haab works on his mother’s farm. Both are graduatesOf New Paris high school. The Pine Tree Girl Scout troop < held its fourth investiture ceremony at the Methodist church Wednesday evening with the mothers and grandmothers as guests. Nine new members were added to the Girl Scout troop as follows: Peggy Miller, ‘ Patricia Kline. Phyllis Lutes, Janice Bragg, Edith Beer, Ann Anglin, Lois Jean Robinson, Marilyn Myers, and Mary Katherine O’Brien. Regular members attending were Elizabeth Ann Snyder, Betty Ann Cunningham, Barbara Traster, Louise Locke, Mary Helene Thomas, Doris Myers, Ellen Cunningham, Marilyn Fuller, Lois Funk, Norma Kline, Marian Jean, Young, and Jean Coy. 40 YEARS AGO. DEC. 18,1930 Herman Weisser made his first solo flight over Goshen Thursday in an Eaglerock bi plane, having had 94 hours of training before making the flight. A photo of Mrs. Donald. Vanderveer appeared in Saturday’s issue of the Indianapolis News. It was included among the photos of wives of legislators of the 1931 Indiana General Assembly. Mr. Vanderveer will go to Indianapolis after the first of the year to take up his duties as representative for Kosciusko county. The funeral of Ernest Tom. 48, who was killed in an automobile accident in Chicago Sunday, was held . Wednesday afternoon at North Webster. Burial was at Syracuse. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Tom of near Milford and at one time was employed at the gravel plant here. He is survived by his wife and three children. “The Social Lion,” with Jack Oakie, an all comedy picture, Saturday and Sunday nights at the Comus theater. The Strock brothers of Syracuse spent Sunday at the Callander home. Hollis Fetters, 65, died at his home Tuesday afternoon following an illness of several months of a growth of some nature on his face. He is survived by his aged mother, two sons, Everett at home and Devon of South Haven, Mich.; three sisters and a brother. A Christmas entertainment will be given at the Bethany church on Sunday evening at 7 o’clock. Rev. Lee Cory, Rev. Elwood Dunn, and Rev. Claude Garrison met in conference with Rev. Jarboe of Syracuse last week and completed final plans for a union revival meeting to begin in Milford December 28. Rev. Jarboe is an evangelist of wide experience. Russell Homan has been employed at Mishawaka by a construction company having a contract to do some work for the highway department.
