Wawasee’s Christmas Carol Banquet Set

Wawasee high schools Christmas Carol Banquet is set for Monday and Tuesday evenings, Dec. 7 and 8, at 6:30 p.m. and is under the direction of Miss Pauline Cork and Vamer\ m Chance. i This Christmas Carol banquet centers around the Swiss people their customs, food, music, dances, etc. Some of the features on the program will include a group of dancers which include Jill White, Karen Walker, Susie Justus, Susan Miller, Susan Stone. Jan Swartz. Carolyn Gardner, April Schacht, Mike Harris, Matt Gray. David Brown, Phil Tucker, Handy Grimes, Joel Burkholder. Mr and Mrs Clark Crafton of Indianapolis spent the Thanksgiving holidays at the Harry Haab home of Milford Mr and Mrs. Oliver Haab of Milford returned Glenda Gutwein to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs Glen Gutwein at Francesville, Sunday afternoon Mr and Mrs. Elmer Haab accompanied the Haabs and were the guests of Mr. Haab's son-in-law and daughter. Mr and Mrs. Robert Wuthrich, and family. Mr. and Mrs John Martin of near Milford entertained Sunday for Thanksgiving. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Martin and family. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wolferman and family and Mr. and Mrs John Martin. Jr., all of the Milford area.

Ernest Knight, died Aug. 29,1970. pMr and Mrs John A. Naab thoughtfully made a little book of the stories "Mike" had written and presented them to the library. Later a hardback copy will be presented to us which the public may check out and enjoy, however we request that this paperback copy remain in the library . DOUGLAS EVANS Douglas Calvin Evans is a resident of r 1 Warsaw and a senior this year at Wawasee high school. He is taking government, business, mathematics and art and lists business as his favorite subject. Douglas is in the art club, drama club, band and choir. He has awards in baseball and IDGAF racing team. After graduating he plans to work in the general area. -WHSJAMES SHELINE James Allen Sheline is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Sheline and resides on r 4 Syracuse with his parents; a sister, Pam, 11 and in the fifth grade; and a brother Mike, 14 and in the eighth grade. Another brother, Steve, is an ISU senior. Football and skiing are this senior’s favorite sports. He is taking one period of auto mechanics, English, biology II and government and states auto mechanics and business are his favorites. James is undecided about his plans for the future. He will eventually go to college but not right away. -WHSJOHN UMBAUGH John Todd Umbaugh, son of M. D. Umbaugh of r 1 Syracuse, plans to attend either Arizona State or Indiana university after graduating from Wawasee. He is taking government, English, physiology, typing and current events this year and states government and English are his favorites. This is his first year at WHS. He attended Plymouth the first three years of his high school career. He has two brothers, Joe, 18 who resides in Plymouth and Kris, 19 a student at Purdue university. W'ater skiing is his favorite sport. —WHS—ROBERT OLSON Robert Clinton Olson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman D. Olson of North Webster. He has no favorite subjects but is taking choir, Russian civilization. English, physiology and government this year. He has been a member of the cross counriy team for two years; track, three years; basketball, three years; and wrestling, one year. Clint is president of the MYF group and has received perfect attendance awards. After graduating this senior plans 4o attend Indiana university. He has one brother, John. 22; and a sister, Arlene, 19. Track is this senior’s favorite sport. —WHS—JULIA HEIL Julia Jane Heil plans to attend Ball State university or a junior college in Florida after she

graduates from WHS next spring. She is the daughter of Ralph Heil of r 3 Syracuse. Julie is taking government, English, art IV, arts and crafts and psychology this year. Government and psychology are her favorite subjects. She is a three-year member of GAA, four-year member of the art club, one-year member of the Spanish club, three-year member of the cheerblock and has been a cheerleader for two years. The youngest of three children, she has two brothers — Rex is 19 and a freshman at Ball State and Jack is married and lives in Fort Wayne. Water skiing and football are her favorite sports. “Grapes of Wrath" is her favorite book. National Junior Honor Society Inducts 12 During the convocation at Syracuse Junior high school on the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 25, 12 students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. Students are selected for membership by the faculty on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship, and service. Granting membership in this organization is perhaps the greatest honor that the school can bestow. The eighth grade students inducted were: Alan Kitson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Kitson; David Madrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Umbaugh; Donald Novy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Novy; and Mark Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith. Seventh grade students inducted were: Kathy Brandon, daughter of Mr. and -Mrs. Carl Brandon; Barbara Brouwer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Brouwer; Patricia Bryant, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Sidney E. Bryant, Jenny Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cox; Steve Kroh, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kroh; Karen Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gearold Moore; Leisa Napier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Napier; and Michael Silveus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Silveus. igntrSill W? 1 ' 4* * COOK AND EAT SOUP — To add to the discussion of Thanksgiving and the gathering of food for winter, the kindergarten classes at Syracuse elementary school made their own vegetable s«up on Tuesday. Nov. 24. Each child brought to school an ingredient for the soup which was cooked in the classrooms, and the finished product was sampled by all including some who readily admitted they did not like soup. Many “seconds” of soup were also eaten. The classes are taught by Mrs. Milton Brice and Miss Karel Hollingsworth.

Debbie Greiner To Represent European Safari At Wawasee High

Richard McCleary, owner and operator of the Safari, has announced that Debbie Greiner, a senior and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Greiner of North Webster, will be the Wawasee high school representative for the 1971 European Safari. The “4-week" European Student Safari is an annual event for Mr. McCleary, as he has taken nearly forty area students in the past two years. Mr. McCleary taught at South Whitley high school and is now a member of the ABC Travel Agency of Warsaw. This year (1971) is promised to be the best yet and is scheduled to depart O’Hare International Airport on June 16. Major

European stopovers will include: Copenhagen, Denmark; Stockholm, Sweden; Oslo, 1 Norway; Innsbruck, Austria; Arosa and Zermatt (Mattderhom) Switzerland; Geneva, Switzerland, Monte Carlo, Monaco; Paris, France. Two weeks in Scandinavia, one week in Switzerland, and one week split between Monte Carlo and Paris should prove to be the finest itinerary ever offered to the students of this area.
