Russia. So far he has made contact with 10 to 15 foreign countries. He and his parents are quite proud of the fact that he has achieved a morse code certificate for 20 words per minute. Fifth Grade At Syracuse Elementary Observe A Day of Pioneer Times

James Nelson, a fifth grade teacher in the Syracuse school system, and his class members participated Tuesday in a day of pioneer times. Objective in this endeavor was to find, out about life in the wilderness of North America in pioneer times said Mr. Nelson. The class was divided into four groups, pioneer men. pioneer women. Indian braves and Indian squaws. Each person chose a topic to research and write on from a list such as food, clothing, homes, games, vocations, tools, weapons, etc. As each individual worked on their reports, some developed into projects of interest!

r Students studied and worked on costumes to wear for the Thanksgiving celebration held Tuesday. .Among articles made were: a hornbook, tepee, whittled knives, samplers and braided rag-rugs. In the project, students needed to figure how much food would be needed for the day with a set menu consisting of chicken, (wild turkey) corn, baked apples, cider, milk, homemade bread and pumpkin pie. Among the activities for the Thanksgiving celebration were research and written reports, the food menu, square dancing. Indian wrestling, a spelling bee, and discussions.

Lions And Merchants To Hold Christmas Party

The Leesburg Lions club and the town's merchant’s association are combining their efforts this year to hold a community Christmas party. Plans call for the party to be held on Saturday. Dec. 12. at 7 p.m. at the school. Santa Claus will be on hand for the evening. The Cardinal Learning Center bell ringers will present the evening's program. They have recently been incited to preform in Washington. D.C. % Everyone is invited to attend this holiday event.

ACCIDENT NORTH OF NEW PARIS Karl G. Kaufman, 22. Milford, and Ronald L. Martz. 21. r 1 NewParis, both escaped injuries in a two-car accident a half-mile north of New Paris Saturday. Martz was southbound on Ind. 15 and stopped for on coming traffic before making a turn on county road 23. Kaufman who was following, was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the right rear fender of the Martz auto.
