Parsonage and church property mortgage burning ceremonies were held Sunday afternoon at the Syracuse Church of the Brethren in connection w ith a dedication program for. the recent building program com pleted to provide more auditorium and Sunday School classroom space Bev Wilburn Lewallen, northem Indiana district executive secretary for the Church of the Brethren, gave the dedication sermon He is a brother of Mrs. Wilbur Ellis whose son, Rdbert. lost his life in Viet Nam and in whose memory the Ellis family provided the newly decorated pulpit area consisting oLpaneling and a lighted cross Stanley Barnhart, chairman of the church cabinet, presided over the meeting Rev Harlan Smith of North Manchester a former pastor at th*‘ Syracuse anti Bethel Church of the Brethren, Milford, led in prayer and responsive reading U*onard Barnhart gave the background history of the church which was followed by a building project report by Ray Darr who was chairman’of the nine-man board responsible for planning and carrying out the building and remodeling program Recognize Contractor Charles Rogers, contractor, was recognized Mrs Darrell (Liz) Bowman presented her own meditations on Thanksgiving Special music was provided by a trumpet and trombone trio consisting of Jeff Farrell. Charles and Terry Baldwin with Mrs. Charles Baldwin accompanying. A ladies trio, consisting of Mrs Jerry Hapher. Mrs Baldwin and Miss Pat Kurtz, was accompanied byMark Steury The mortgage burnings followed the dedication sermons. Pastor Jack Farrell led the closing portion of the service with a responsive act of dedication and prayer,-> Church History The Syracuse church was built m 1887 and was a part of the Solomons Creek (now Bethany ) congregation It was organized as a separate congregation in 1907 with J W Kit son. By JOHN BAHN The Wawasee Warriors stand one and one in the new basketball season after losing their first outing 74-64 and defeating a strong Fairfield team 74-62 last evening on the Warrior court;! Fairfield s John Wysong scored the first basket with a field goal to give the team its only lead of the game Russ Mikel soon scored a field goal to tie the score The quarter soon turned into a scoring contest between Wawasee s John Hamilton aqd Fairfield s Wysong Hamilton hit for eight points on three field goals and two foul shots. Wysong scored three from the field and one foul shot for a total of seven. The Warriors held a 19 to 15 lead at the end of the quarter The Warriors started to fall behind in the second quarter with several fouls being called. Fairfield’s big Doug Brookins, a six foot, ten inch senior, was controled by the Warriors. He scored only one foul shot and two field goals during the quarter. Dave Elliott led in scoring as he hit for seven during the quarter. Fairfield's Wysong added an additional six points for the Falcons At the end of the half Wawasee’s lead was cut to two points with the score being 29-27. In the third quarter Fairfield’s Brookins tied the score, however. Tim Blue soon broke the tie. Blue led the Warriors during the quarter as he hit for 10 points. Hamilton added another six points during the eight minutes of play, widening the Warrior lead to 50-41. In the last quarter Wawasee scored 24 points while Fairfield scored 22. Wawasee’s John Hamilton scored 24 points' to lead in individual scoring for the evening (Continued On Page 2)

'Banditos' Hit Milford Tavern, Saturday Night The now notorious motorcycle garig. known in the Goshen area as the “Banditos,” hit the Hickory Lounge in Milford late Saturday night, doing considerable damage to property within the establishment. One member of the blackjacket gang was “busted up.” according to a Goshen police officer who had knowledge of the incident but declined to be identified The Hickory Lounge, which has been building up a strong case of Jocal opposition due to the nature of its week end entertainment, was sold a week ago by owner Mary Liniger to Pete Lindmuth and Robert Ton* uO-'ort Wayne. The new ownersd-iave eliminated the ''hip'' band and go-go-type dancers and converted its musical entertainment to western type music. Goshen Based Gang The “Banditos" are a Goshenbased motorcycle gang, according to the anonymous Goshen polite officer, which has drawn its share of police attention. The Geshen group represents a local chapter of a national organization, the officer stated. He stated, “Jo-Jo was busted up in the Milford fight and was taken to the Elkhart hospital.” It is reported Jo-Jo, a gang leader, suffered severe facial lacerations sustained from a broken beer bottle. The owners of the establishment were not available this morning for a more realistic assessment of damage done in the Saturday night foray.

Postal Employees Honor Lewis Cobbum Syracuse postal employees and spouses honored Lewis Cobbum of Syracuse at a retirement party Saturday evening in North Webster with 31-persons in attendance. Mrs* Georgia Webster of Goshen and formerly of Syracuse presented a chalk talk and program on Indiana after which the drawing was presented to Mrs. Cobbum Mr. Cobbum was presented with an electric razor and a retirement pin by postal employee Jerry Lowe. Russell Hinderer of Syracuse, who retired December 30. 1965 from the Syracuse post office, also received a retirement pin. Cobbum retired from the Syracuse post office as a rural carrier on route 3 on July 24 of this year. A postal employee for the past 19 and one-half years at Syracuse as a rural carrier, he came to Syracuse from Fort W'ayne where he was a city carrier for eight-years. • ; GETS FEDERAL APPROVAL John W. Montgomery, director of marketing, modular division, Delta Homes Corporation, Syracuse, has announced that Delta’s “Village Square" series of modular homes has been granted Federal Housing Administration and Farmers Home Administration approval.
