AROUND • J _ Little Known Facts: It was almost overlooked in the recent retirement story of Syracuse r 3 rural mail carrier Louis Cobbum that his substitute carrier from January 5. 1970 to Cobbum s effective retirement, July 24, was Rhudell <Mrs. Paul) Yeager. Mrs. Yeager, in fact, is still continuing the r 3 circuit on a daily basis and will be relieved on October 19 by Carroll Koble, a long lime Syracuse postal employee. , | It should be noted, perhaps parenthetically, that Mrs Yeager’s husband has been faithfully making his appointed rounds as carrier for the city’s short route for the past six yeras Since leaving the Pickwick Lounge. We understand JP Koher and Harry Vanllemert have donated monies for the Syracuse police department project of new beach sand at the city park. In addition, the local Jaycees have purchased a large amount of sand and will be assisting with labor and equipment this week end in transporting the sand, along with a number of other local persons with available trucks. The Syracuse License Branch on Main street will be closed on Columbus Day. October 12. according to manager Virginia Putt. The NIPSCo men will have to proride their faithful employee. Leila Connolly, with a truck to cart home her cards and gifts from the hospital At least this is what Leila thinks. In a card her office received Monday from her in the Lutheran hospital in Fort Wayne she wrote. "I have so many cards and flowers I think I will need a NIPSCo truck to pick me up.”

NO INJURIES IN TRAFFIC LANE CHANGE Minor damage was reported and no injuries sustained in a Saturday mishap on Pike street in Goshen. Harold D. Deßolt, 40, r 3 Syracuse, attempted to change lanes when westbound on Pike at 6:52 p.m. and his 1968 Mercury hit the westbound car driven by Cecil R. Slayton. Jr., 26, Elkhart. The 1960 Ford is owned by the Elkhart city police department. Patrolman Gregory Daniels investigated. RECEIVES FINES AND STIFF SENTENCE Richard P. Wagner, 41, r 1 Syracuse, was assesed $25 in Elkhart county city court at Goshen Friday night for resisting arrest and sentenced to a 30-day jail sentence. He also lost his operator’s license for a two-month period, was given a suspended 60-day sentence to the state farm and was assessed $51.25 for driving while under the influence of intoxicants. Wagner was unable to pay the two assessments, plus two other assessments owed to the court, so was committed to the Elkhart county jail for an additional period to satisfy the fines and costs. He was taken into custody around 11:50 Friday night in an alley behind 715 south Main in Goshen by patrolman Calvin Miller after observing him driving in an erratic manner for several blocks. Wagner struggled with Miller in the yard and ran into a house where he was then taken into custody

New Salem By MRS. HERB MOREHOUSE HELPING HANDS HELD TUESDAY The Helping Hands met Tuesday night in the fellowship hall. Mrs. Max Shively presided during the business meeting. Mrs. John Plank led in singing “This is my Father’s World.” Mrs. John Stookey led in devotions reading “Art of Friendship” and “Golden Thoughts” and John 13:31-35. She also led in prayer. Mrs. Shively read “I had a job to do.” Mrs. Everett Tom, Jr., introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Charles Baldwin of Syracuse. Mrs. Baldwin and husband are farmer missionaries to Nigeria, West Africa. She told of their experiences and showed several articles from Africa and their meaning. Mrs. Tom closed with prayer. Injured As Car Hits Flasher In Syracuse Friday Leßoy Davis, 28, of North Webster, was admitted to the hospital for possible back injuries following a one-car accident at 8:25 Friday night in Syracuse. Authorities reported the Davis car, a 1970 Rebel was damaged $2,000 after going out of control on SR 13 as Davis, southbound, hit the railroad signal at the south edge of Syracuse, when failing to negotiate the curve. The first aid unit responded to the call along with Syracuse police officer Dale Sparklin and deputy sheriff Roger Fellows. Damage to the B & O signal was set at S4OO. Saturday evening guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Doral McFarren, Kathy and Steve were Mr. and Mrs. Ted Brooks. Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Seely and Morris Wolferman. all of Milford. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rhoades and two children of North Webster are moving into the Charles Boddiger, Jr., home in Milford that they have purchased. The Boddiger family moved to Archbold, Ohio.
