REMEMBER WHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO Wawasee high school’s second annual homecoming program will be held at the school on October 3. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Witmer enjoyed a birthday dinner last week at the Bertha Witmer home in Ligonier. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Watkins have returned from a tour of Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel W. Jones of r 2 Syracuse are the parents of a son bom on September 25 in Goshen hospital. Turkey Creek township trustee Harold Kuhn underwent major surgery in Parkview Memorial hospital, Fort Wayne, on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. John Clausen of Lake Wawasee will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on October 11. Mary Louise Simon and Allan J. Reeve were united in marriage on September 27 in the Syracuse Church of the Brethren. FIVE YEARS AGO Charles Harris and James Kirkwood have been named to the board of directors at the Syracuse State Bank. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fleischauer returned home Saturday from a 7,000 mile trip through 17 states. The Odako Camp Fire Girls held their eighth birthday ceremonial and potluck supper September 27 at the scout cabin. A basket dinner will follow the church services and will be held at 12:30 p.m. The afternoon program will begin at 2 p.m. Sermon Title Given For Christian Science The healing power of spiritual awakening will be brought out at Sunday Christian Science church services. “When we wake to the truth of being, all disease, pain, weakness, weariness, sorrow, sin death, will be unknown, and the mortal dream will forever cease,” one of the citations from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, reads. An incident in the healing ministry of Christ Jesus will be included in the Bible readings: “And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them.” The Lesson-Sermon is entitled “Are Sin, Disease, and Death Real?”
