Escape Serious Injury As Car Overturns Wednesday
Donald L. Newcomer, 17. 312 north Harrison. Syracuse, and his passenger. Carolyn J. Vest, 16, r 1 North Webster, escaped serious injury at 11 a m. Wednesday, Sept. 16. when their car went out oi control, struck a bridge railing and overturned The mishap occurred on the Syracuse-North Webster road about three miles south of Syracuse. ASC Community Committeemen Elected Farmers of Kosciusko county have elected a total of 85 ASC community committeemen and alternates in a mail election conducted earlier this month, according to Scott Hom. chairman of the county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation ASC committee. ASC community committees assist the county ASC committee m administering farm programs in Kosckusko county, such as wheat acreage allotments, feed gram bases, and agricultural conservation cost-sharing measures They also help keep local producers informed of farm program provisions and regulations In addition, the just-elected ASC community committees have an important responsibiltiy m the near future m filling vacancies on the county ASC committee and determining the chairman and vice-chairman for the coming year. Mr. Horn said. The new ASC community committeemen will convene September 25. at 10 a m . at the REMC building in Warsaw in a meeting open to the public. They will elect one county com ; mitteeman to serve a three-year term and two alternates to serve one-year terms After the vacancies are filled, the community committeemen will determine which of the three regular members of the county ASC committee will i>e-chairman and vice-chairman Each of the seventeen ASC community committees are made up of three members ami two alternates, who serve for a one-year period The candidate in each ASC community, who received the largest number of votes is the committee chairman Second highest is vice chairman. third is regular committee

ELKHART COUNTY COUNCIL MEETS Mrs. Orville Bontrager of r 4 Goshen, was elected vicepresident of the Elkhart County Extension Homemakers clubs at council meeting Friday afternoon. She will serve as vicepresident for 1971 and will become president in 1972. Mrs. Lowell Maust of r 4 Goshen, will become president of the county organization of almost 900 extension homemakers in January after serving for a year as vice-president. Mrs. Harvey Weirich of r 1 Goshen, current president will serve as advisor. Other officers elected were: Mrs. LaMar Cooper of r 2 Middlebury. secretary; Mrs. John Hoover of Westwood Drive. Goshen; treasurer and Mrs. Walter Lechlitner of r 4 Goshen as assistant Elkhart county 4-H fair board director. Mrs. Robert Cline of New Paris will represent the Extension Homemakers as fair board director in 1971. Mrs. Norman Swihart of r 2 Goshen gave a report of the highway safety survey at the Extension Council meeting. She reported that all townships had been checked for traffic hazards and these surveys were given to the sheriff's department This department checked all hazards which were marked by county extension women and work is currently being done to correct the problems in several townships by the highway department. Mrs. Swihart is a member of the Elkhart county traffic safety task force

Mrs. LaMar Cooper, chairman of homemakers camp which was held September 14 and 15' at Camp Mack reported that 154 women attended on Monday and 45 on Tuesday. The camp theme was Pennsylvania Dutch Days. Other reports were given at council meeting by Mrs. Jared Smith of Elkhart, Mrs. Walter Lechlitner, Mrs. Zerola Zook and Mrs. Harold Moneyheffer of New Paris. Mrs. Lois Gotwals. family living agent, reviewed the current fall program. Coming events include a leader training lesson on Urban Renewal on September 23; pattern alteration classes which begin on October 2; Achievement Day on October 8, Holiday craft classes rn October 28; Holiday Workshop on November 5; a leader training lesson on parent-child relationship on November 12; a consumer education workshop. Confusion in the Market Place on November 18; and officers training on December 4. For more information on any coming events contact the Elkhart County Extension Office. Leesburg Merchants Elect Officers The Leesburg Merchants Association elected officers for the 1970-71 year at its September meeting recently held at a Leesburg restaurant. A familystyle dinner was served by John Syage to 23 members. Mrs. James (Mildred) Engle was re-elected president and Mrs. Chris (Ida) Kammerer was elected the secretarytreasurer. Warren Rector was appointed chairman of the Leesburg summer recreation program committee. Charles Dye. Harold Jones and Robert Ferverda are serving with him on the committee. The committee will investigate the availability of ground and present the findings at a future meting.

Church Honors Former Residents The Syracuse Church of God has set October 11 for its Homecoming Day. Outstanding sen ices are planned to welcome all who return and to rally the home folks. Local talent will highlight the morning senices with special emphasis on attendance in the Church School at 9:30 a m. The goal is to exceed the Easter attendance. A basket dinner will be held in the church basement at 12:30 p.m. The afternoon sen ice at 2 p.m.. in addition to recognizing those who have ‘come home*, will feature the gospel singing of the Heritage Trio from Churubusco.
