A six and one half month course at applied computer programming in South Bend has been < chosen by Jan Lundy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel R. Lundy of North Webster. Jan will reside in Mishawaka with relatives while attending classes this winter. He leaves North Webster the 28th of September. Allen Barrett, son of Mr. and Mrs Joe Barrett, r 1 Warsaw, entered Manchester college over the past week end. He will live on campus. Richard Kemper, son of Mr. and Mrs Robert Kemper of North Webster, is enrolled as a freshman at Indiana university where he will pursue a general curse of study. John Corbin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Corbin. North Webster, has joined the air national guard, and will be on active duty for six weeks at Lack land AFB in Texas, then on to Denver. Colo, for advanced schooling
Joe Tirschek, son of Mrs. Betty Lou Tirschek, North Webster, plans to take a course in drafting at the Purdue Extension in Indianapolis. —NW—CUB SCOUTS TO BEGIN FALL PROGRAM A ‘school night for scouting’ will take place in the North Webster School cafeteria sometime near the end of September for boys interested in becoming Cub scouts. Any boy now eight years of age, or who will become eight years of age by October 1, will be eligible, however he must be accompanied to the organizational meeting by a parent or guardian. -NWSECHRIST 65 IN MEETING Mrs. Russell Moore, assisted by Mrs. Donald Harris as cohostess. entertained 11 members of the Secrist 65 Extension Homemakers club recently. “Five Fingers of Prayer” was the article read by Mrs. William Pearl for meditation. The health and safety lesson concerning flu shots was presented by Mrs. Harris. Mrs. Moore presented the garden remarks dealing with fall clean-up. and a lesson on life insurance. Roll call responses were “a school experience.” A surprise baby shower was held for Mrs. Jack McTighe, club president Mrs Jack Harms was awarded the door prize. During the business session it was decided to forego the July and August meetings henceforth. Mrs. Robert Garr will entertain in October. -NW—MRS. SHARI* IS HOSTESS FOR WCTU Members and a guest. CHAIN ’O LAKES 4-H CLUB MEMBERS PLACE AT FAIR Ralph Reiff won a first place ribbon in Geology 3 with his entry at the state fair in Indianapolis, and a third place in Photography 2. Jeff Rhodes was awarded a second place ribbon in Weather 1. Both boys are justifiably proud of the achievements this year. —NW—PLANS PROGRAM FOR 1970-71 Members of the WSCS Miriam Circle met last Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Earl Black to formulate plans for the coming year. Mrs. George Staples will entertain in October The Halloween theme will be carried out with a masquerade party. —NW—LIONS HAVE FAMILY PICNIC North Webster Lions club members and their families enjoyed a picnic Thursdayevening at the Flowing Well park on state road 13. The next regularly scheduled business meeting will take place in October. -NWWSCS 1970-71 Program Planned Mrs. Marion (Bud) Lantz presented devotions at the September meeting of the WSCS Mary Circle held Thursday in the Unifed Methodist church social room. During the 1970-71 program planning session, dates for the general meetings were announced. Mrs. Max Simpson and Mrs. Jerry Badskey served as hostesses for the 11 members and eight children present. The October meeting will feature guest speaker Roger Vore, manager of a Warsaw theater, and the program theme is called “Movie Ratings”. Time will be allowed for a question and answer session, following Mr. Vore’s talk. The public is invited to this meeting, which will be held in the church social room on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 9:30 a m. —NW—CHURCH OF GOD NEWS The church softball team has captured the church league championship for the second consecutive year. On Thursdayevening they defeated the Church of the Brethren in the league tournament. The Women’s Missionary Society met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Paul Baugher. Hostesses were Mrs. Mary Jo Lundy and Betty Ganger. The education committee conducted the lesson. On Thursday night, Oct. 1. the WMS will sponsor a family night supper. Guest speakers will be Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hutchins, missionaries from East Pakistan. Sunday, Sept. 6, was Launch Day for the new Sunday school
year, and was kicked off with class promotions, a potluck dinner at noon, games and fellowship in the afternoon, a singspiration at 4 p.m. featuring the Christianaires of Fort Wayne, a film entitled “Angel in Ebony”, and a weiner roast for the youth at 8 p.m. Joe Reynolds was in charge of the Wednesday night mid-week family service in the sanctuary. The State Board of Christian Education is sponsoring a state convention Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25 and 26, at the Park Place . Church of God in Anderson. —NW—HOSTESSES FOR LYDIA CIRCLE Mrs. Carl Bockman and Mrs. Earl Himes were hostesses for the Tuesday afternoon meeting of the WSCS Lydia Circle, when members met in the social room at the United Methodist church. A lesson on Nepal was presented by Mrs. Paul Kline and v Mrs. Ray Jones. The October meeting will feature a pledge service for members. The WSCS general meeting of circles will be held at the church on Tuesday evening, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m. - NW—ENJOY POTLUCK DINNER SEPT. 9 Seventeen men. women, and children enjoyed a carryin dinner last Wednesday on the lawn at the Morris Chapel United Methodist church when the W SCS met for the September session. President of the Huntington district, Mrs. Earl Kuhn of Akron, was a special gest. Hostess and co-hostess for the day were Mrs. Gerald Rosbrugh and Mrs. Jack Howard. During the business portion plans were formulated for the Day Aprat. whifh was hid at Oakwood Park near Syracuse on September 7. —NW—COMMUNITY NEWS Miss Susan Stone of Syracuse called on Sally Miller one evening recently. Gary Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brown of Barbee Lake, is enrolled for his sophomore year at Huntington college, majoring in social studies. Gary lives on campus. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hudson of near Warsaw called on friends in the North Webster area recently. Mrs. Hudson is the former Edith Haag. Mrs. Mary Stanfield suffered a painful injury to her right hand last week when it became entangled in the wringer of her washing machine. Several stitches were required to close the wound, and the bones in three fingers were broken. She was treated at a local doctor’s office. Recent callers at the Orva Miller home were Mr. and Mrs.. Royal Kline of South Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Timmons and sons and Mrs. Ike Kline of Syracuse, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Coy, and Mr. and Mrs. Orlie Swoveland and children of Goshen. Cookout meals were enjoyed Labor Day at the home of Mr and Mrs. Tom Reiff by Mr. and Mrs. Phil Fidler and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mitchell, and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Mitchell and family. Goshen, secretary: Mrs. Alden Bohn, Elkhart, treasurer: Mrs. Richard Hare, Goshen, secretary at the home and speaker for the day; Mrs. Dwight Haines. Goshrii. newly elected vice president; and Mrs. Williams T. Jones, Jr., Syracuse, president The Bashor Home for young boys at Goshen is presently in the process of building four-new cottage-type buildings with each to accommodate 12-boys and one set of houseparents, making available space for more youths, hopefully by January 1. There are presently 24 at the home. .Mrs. Hare spoke to the large group of 50-persons telling of her experiences, both humorous and sad. which she had had during her past six-years as secretary at the home. During this time, she also served at times as unofficial confident to boys desiring some special attention or someone to talk with. The October 12 meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. in the Mishawaka First United Methodist church. Due to interested persons and growth of the auxiliary, meetings orginally held at the home are now being held in area churches, and reached a peak this year of 335 members.

Ligonier, recently received the Bronze Star Medal in Viet Nam He was presented the award for distinguishing himself through meritorious service in connection with military operations against hostile forces in Viet Nam. The medal, adopted in 1944, recognizes outstanding achievement. Sgt. Gose received the award while assigned as a mess sergeant in headquarters com : ~~ pany, Ist battalion, sth cavalry of the Ist calvary division (airmobile). He entered the army in August, 1958.
