Waiibee Lake Property Owners In Meeting The Waubee Lake Property Owners Association held its annual meeting recently at the Milford fire station. An election was held with the following results Kenneth Miller was elected to replace Lawrence "Bud" Sawyer in district one; Merril Rink to replace Dennis Sharp in district two; and Dennis Sharp to replace John Augsburger, Jr., as member at large on the board Mrs Richard (Linda) Neff was re-elected secretary-treasurer Mrs. Neff reported a balance of $669 14 m the bank. It was decided to place the money in a savings account until it is needed Several items of business were discussed and it was decided to write letters to property owners whose vacant lots were not being kept up President Sharp stated he would check on buying copper

14 YEARS AGO, AUG. IS, 1956 Milford escapes wrath of tornado Sunday night. Arch Baumgartner attends study session in House Chamber Tuesday. The Milford Lions club purchases two pigs at county fair. Duane L. C. Wiggs, RMSN, U.S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Wiggs, has been honorably discharged from the navy at Norfolk. Va. Levi Chupp has been unable towork for several days due to blood poisoning in his leg. LaVerne Soales returns to Island Chapel church, Hastings, for another year as pastor. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Homan of Waubee lake celebrated their 32d wedding anniversary Saturday. The Home Arts club enjoyed a picnic Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Ted Tobin at Dewart Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Max Shively of near Leesburg were hosts to 103 friends at a supper at their home Tuesday. The sweet corn was cooked in 9 large iron kettles in a woods along the Tippecanoe river near their home. The Lingofelter-Lavering reunion was held at Waubee lake park Sunday. Major Charles H. Purdum, Jr., takes two week’s reserve training at Baltimore, Md. Paul Kizer and E. E. Little attended the ball game at Wrigley Field in Chicago yesterday. They saw a doubleheader, the Cubs vs. Cincinnati. Rev. Carl Shearer is the new pastor of the Christian church in Milford. Rev. and Mrs. Shearer moved h*>re from Kansas, 111.,

An Italian supper was served at the cottage of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Miller at Redman park, Dewart Lake, last Thursday for a group of friends. A crowd of 2.800 horse lovers jammed west side park Sunday to see the most colorful horse show of the season. Fuller Brothers Market is making store improvements with the purchase of a Holbart meat saw. a self-service dairy box, and a fresh vegetable box. William Eldon Wyland. 56. died Sunday at his home four miles east of Milford. Services are being held today at the Grace Brethren church with burial in the New Salem cemetery. P. G. Kern, manager of the Walter Drug store in Milford for the past 2 l a years, announces he has purchased a drug store in Dowagiac, Mich., and would be leaving Milford soon. Funeral services were held in Bluffton Wednesday for Harry S. Gaunt, 76. former Milford merchant.

AUG. 15,1940 James Weaver, 13, of near Wakarusa, drowried in Waubee lake last Monday night at seven o’clock. The piano students of Mrs. Bertha Wehrly will give a public recital at the Bethel church tomorrow night. Mrs. Samuel Hartter was removed from the Saint Joseph hospital in South Bend Monday. Donald, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Hosea Deisch of Goshen, formerly of Milford, was stricken with infantile paralysis late last week. Severe heat has played havoc with corn crops in Indiana and other states. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Funk and daughter Lucille attended the Milford fair Saturday night and visited Mr. and Mrs. John May. The building is 40 x 100 feet and is stories high, two of which will be used this fall and winter in housing 2,000 pullets and the attic will be equipped with electric brooders for raising small chicks. three and three fourths pounds and was named Frank A. Scott. Katherine Christine Beck, 67, wife of J. C. Beck, died Sunday evening at her home in Goshen of a cerebral hemorrhage. She was the daughter of Rachael Felkner Gortner, the first white child born in Kosciusko county. Robert Hoover and Omar Baumgartner, known as two big "chicken men of Milford.” are now busy feeding 3,000 young chicks for the fall market. The chicks are being fed at the chicken farm on the northern outskirts of New Paris. Kenneth Bird Calbeck, weighing nine and one fourth pounds, was bom to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Calbeck of Nappanee at the home of the child’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bird, Monday afternoon. Burkholder received second (dace honors in the household article division, crocheting, domestic arts at the Indiana state fair at Indianapolis. Mrs. Burkholder entered an" afghan. The Burkholders reside at 113 E. Benton street in Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. George Cook, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Bowman and Mrs. Carrie Champlin were visitors in the I. J. Bvland home at Syracuse recently.
