Warriors Make Good Showing At Football Jamboree Friday
The Wawasee Warriors made a good showing at North Wood Friday night as they joined with Lakeland in the annual preseason football Jamboree. Wawasee tied Plymouth 6-6 in the second quarter and beat North Wood 6-0 in the final period. The Warriors were, however, on the losing side as Lakeland failed to score and Plymouth and North Wood topped yie two Lakeland teams 33-12. Plymouth went through the defensive lines of Wawasee and Lakeland three times for touchdowns with North Wood gaining two on aerials. Both of Wawasee's JD’s came through the air Plymouth’s Peter Sheridan and North Wood's Rick Abel made two touchdowns each for the game's honors Abel opened the scoring when he took a 39-yard toss from Greg Frick with 3:25' left in the first quarter Rick Hollar scored the extra point to give the Nappanee team a 7-0 lead With only 29 seconds remaining in the quarter Abel ran a pattern deep to the left corner of the end zone and hung on to a 16-yard pass from Frick to end the

Wawasee took over the ball on the 37-yard-line as the second quarter opened and on the first play junior quarterback Tim Blue sent a 37-yard pass to Steve Cobum for the score. Plymouth then hammered at the Wawasee line gaining very little ground and one 10-yard pass before Todd Thompson broke through at four-yards for the score. On the kickoff Wiawasee moved 62 yards in eight plays which included passes of eight, 19 and 25 yards by Blue The ball was resting on the three-yard line when Thompson broke through the Wawasee line to nail Blue for a 12-vard loss. The play ended the half. South Shore Ladies Play Calcutta, Have Luncheon And Awards
The South Shore Ladies Golf association ended its season last week with the annual Calcutta Play being won by a team composed of Edwina Neuhauser. Nedra Beebe, Ellie Caudill and Dorothy Jones. A special buffet luncheon was served in the clubhouse following play followed by a business meeting. Championship Pairings At Wawasee Pairings and flights for the club championship tournament at Wawasee golf club are being announced with the tournament starting last Monday and the first round to be played by Sept. 6. This is played on a handicap basis with a match a week by winning players. The championship players and A-flight have been combined as have the B and C-flights and D and E-flights. Winner of the first round play goes to the top flight in championship division and the loser into A-division with the same process in the other divisions. Rich Billet is defending club champion. Syracuse Town Board Approves Budget, Tax Levy
Syracuse town board members, at the Monday night meeting, passed the proposed 1971 budget and approved the tax rate of $2.36. a 44-cent reduction from last year. Publication of the issues appeared in the newspaper and no protestors appeared at the Monday meeting. One unknown factor is the amount of monies the town will receive in the motor vehicle excise tax distribution making possible a slight reduction of the tax rate. Final rates will be adjusted when the state tax board review’s the budget and sets the final rate. Mrs. Blanche Bates and Loren Longenbaugh of the town board of trustees were out of town and did not attend the meeting. Tuesday P.M. Bowlers To Start On September 15 The Tuesday Afternoon Ladies Bowling league will start their bowling season on Tuesday. Sept. 15. with a prebowl meeting at Wawasee Bowl at 12:30. LAKE RESIDENT REPORTS DAMAGE TO AUTOMOBILE Samuel Leman of north Shore Drive, Syracuse, reported to Syracuse police that about 10 o'clock Monday evening a number of beer cans were thrown through his car windows, breaking the windows and strewing beer throughout. Syracuse Lake Association ReElects Officers During a meeting last week of the board of director’s of the Syracuse Property Owner’s association, current officers were re-elected, namely: Dave Stoops, president; Lester Lung, vice president and Mrs. Stoops, secretary-treasurer. Members expressed their desire to continue work on the program set-up for last year in hopes of reaching their desired goals. Cheerleaders Compete At State Fair Varsity and junior varisty cheerleaders of the Lakeland school system, W’awasee high, competed at the state fair grounds Tuesday. The first time for the local cheerleaders, no special awards were won but they feel much was learned in the day’s events and hope to pursue » the event. Os the 37-squads competing.
