But they do have something in common, you know — something very important—they are all human beings. No matter how different, the point is they have the same hopes and ambitions and frustrations as you and I. You and I like to think we are a little different, of course. But you and I share something with all other human beings — something very precious. REMEMBER WHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ON EYE AR AGO Junior Coy of r 3 has returned from a Minnesota fishing trip of which he includes in his catch, a pound and five ounce bluegill. The Syracuse emergency unit was called to the home of Joe Hapner Thursday evening when Mr. Hapner suffered an asthmatic attack and oxygen was administered. Mary Katherine Bushong and David Ridings were united in marriage August 22 in Grace Lutheran church. The Charlotte Blue chapter of Turkey Creek Senior Citizens held a carry-in picnic at Milford lakeside park. Miss Sharon Ann Weaver and Richard H. Dußois were married August 24 in the Calvary United Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dobbs and family of Indianapolis spent the week end at Syracuse visiting friends. FIVE YEARS AGO Jerry L. Helvey was sworn in as a new Lakeland Community School Corporation board member. Mr. and Mrs. William Hess celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jensen and family of Osceola spent the week end at the Emory Guy home. Fire destroyed the mobile home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sterling at Fascination Place. Hie Syracuse Camp Fire girls are collecting canned goods to distribute to needy families in the area. Joe Bauer of Fort Wayne and Mike Bauer, Michigan City, spent last week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Bauer. Mr. and Mrs. George W. Vivian Lee Fisher and Lee Franklin Mellinger were united in marriage Saturday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Warsaw. Babcock and Lucille, Amos Kehr and Clarence Kehr helped celebrate a birthday dinner Sunday for Mrs. Rosa Kehr at Oswego. Miss Istetta Fuller and Robert H. Carwile were married August 19 at Berne. Lake Wawasee claimed its first victim of the year when Kenneth Gordon Felty, 22, Frankfort, Ky., drowned. Mr. and Mrs. John R. Kern are the parents of a son Jay Randall bom on Tuesday at Goshen hospital. Mrs. H. D. Harkless is recuperating from a three-week illness. Mrs. Ocal Craft is replacing her at the phone company ' CHURCH OF GOD WCSC LADIES MEET The Syracuse Church of God WSCS ladies met in the home of Mrs. Louis Firestone last Wednesday evening with 15 members and five guests in attendance. Mrs. Carroll Koble led devotions reading Luke 15, the story of the Prodigal son. Mrs. Walter Burcham offered prayer. Miss Jane Hibschman gave the mission lesson reading an article from the Guide Post entitled, “Put Some Lion in Your Life.” The society ladies are making and filling 50-school bags to be sent to the mission field in Haiti. It was announces,the fall WCSC Retreat will be 9 at Bear Lake Church Camp on Friday evening and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19. Special prayer was offered for Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sleasman who left last week for the mission field in Pakistan and Mr. and Mrs. James Hibschman, now serving as missionaries in the Philippines. Mrs. Oliver Hibschman dismissed the group with prayer. Mr. and Mrs. William Troup and daughters Angie and Christy of r 2 Leesburg have returned home from a five-day camping' trip to Kentucky.
