Parties Held Honoring Bride-To-Be, Alice Alfrey A series of lovely parties have preceded the marriage of Alice Alfrey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Alfrey and Gordon Love, son of Dr. and Mrs. Logan Love, all of Lake Wawasee, which will take place August 29 at the Saint Andrew’s United Methodist church. A dinner and dance honored Miss Alfrey, given by Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Kinder of Syracuse, at the Elcona Country club in Elkhart. ~ A Christmas shower was given by Mrs. Joy Sims and Mrs. Richard Miller in the Syracuse home of Mrs. Sims with decorations in Christmas green and holiday lights. Another party was helcbat the home of Miss Susan Kirkdcrfer and her mother, Mrs. Hubert Kirkdorfer on r 4 Syracuse. The gift table and serving table were decorated in violet and white. Mrs. Ronald Minzey honored the bride-to-be with an “Around the clock" shower and luncheon at her home in Elkhart on August 17. Luncheon Wednesday Honors Esther Beer A luncheon Wednesday noon honored Miss Esther Beer of Milford, bride-elect of Elmer Haab of r 1 Syracuse. Miss Esther Getz, .Mrs George Graff and Mrs. Arthur Baumgartner were hostesses for the event. The luncheon was held in a Goshen restaurant. Peach colored gladioli centered the table with women attending from Bremen. Goshen. Milford and Syracuse. TIPPY CLUB HAS PICNIC WEDESDAY Due to inclement weather the annual picnic of Tippecanoe Township home demonstration club was held in the Barbee Conservation building Aug 19. Thirteen members and two guests, Dennis J. Weaver, Marion and Mary Higgins, North Webster, were present. Mrs. Charles Fralick, r 1 Leesburg, was accepted as a new member. Mrs. Russell Mickley, president, opened the meeting with a poem entitled “I’m Counting On You.” Nema Collins read the meditation. Reports were given by Mrs. Hayes Hidy, health and safety; Goldie Hunnicutt, garden hints; Mrs. Tom Reynolds, secretary and Mrs. Louis Gee, treasurer A letter, from Cardinal Learning Center, Warsaw, expressing appreciation for past support and inviting the club to visit the school, was read. Mrs. Opal Esch was hostess for the picnic. She was assisted by Nema Collins.

Sept. 6, at their home. Mr. Rock and the former Rose Krauter were married on September 4, 1920 in Warsaw by Rev. Leslie J. Naftiger. They have one son. Herschel, and three grandchildren. Mr. Rock was in partnership with his son in the masonry contacting business and retired in 1960. The Rocks have resided in their present home for 49 years. No invitations have been issued and they request there be no gifts.

Mr. Heckaman graduated from Nappanee high school and Humboldt Institute in Minneapolis. Minn. He is employed by Vega Mobile Homes, Syracuse. An October 24 wedding is being planned. LIGONIER NEWS By Rose Cunningham Ligonier Budget Set At $2.04 , The Ligonier city council passed its budget for this year at the third reading during last night’s meeting The tax rate for next year is set for $2.04. A letter was read stating that the revised plans and specifications for sanitary sewers and sewage treatment plant improvements had been approved by both the stream pollution control board and the state board of health. Ligonier has now been recommended for a point assignment of $11.73 on a federal grant. In other business-Tony DePew was granted a 30 day permit to show 60 foot trailers in the Greenlawn addition at the west edge of the city. The approval of property owners will also have to be obtained. MRS. MARKER BREAKS HIP Mrs. Martha Marker, who has been residing in Bremen since selling her home in Ligonier last year, fell Monday evening while visiting at the home of Mrs. Lillian Brandeberry. Mrs Marker was taken by ambulance to a LaPorte hospital where it was found that she had fractured her hip. She had been brought to Ligonier Sunday by her daughter Mrs. Heber Winebrenner. of LaPorte ANGELA CUNNINGHAM BREAKS LEG Angela Cunningham. 2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Cunningham, is in Goshen hospital with a fractured leg received while playing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cunningham in Nappanee.
PLAN BAKE AND RUMMAGE SALE THIS WEEK The Bethel church of Milford is holding a rummage sale on . Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the fire station. Persons wishing to donate are requested to take their items to the fire station on Thursday morning or early in the afternoon. The ladies of the church will also hold a bake sale on Saturday. Baked goods are to be taken to the fire station early in the morning. Mrs. Oliver Replogle is serving as chairman of the project. BUSY HOMEMAKERS HOLD FAMILY NIGHT Thirteen members of the Busy Homemakers club of Milford entertained their husbands and families on August 21 at the Milford fire station. A delicious carry-in supper was enjoyed. The centerpiece for the long table was a birthday cake with names of those having August birthdays and yellow roses. Those with August birthdays are Mrs. Ralph Tusing, Mrs. Harvey Hollar. Glen Pinkerton and son Domis. Games were enjoyed. FELLOWSHIP CLASS HAS POTLUCK The Fellowship class of the Calvary United Methodist church of Syracuse held a potluck dinner and class party in the youth room at the church on Sunday. The business meeting was opened by president Mrs. Jessie Winegart who gave devotions with the assistance of Mrs. Fredericks. .After a short business meeting I. J. Byland closed with prayer. Rev. and Mrs. Kenneth Foulke of South Bend were guests. VISIT RELATIVES Mrs. Allie Rumfelt of Fort Wayne and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cunningham visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hollar at Granger recently. Mrs. Hollar is very ill. Mrs. Rumfelt is an aunt of the Hollarsand Howard Cunningham is a cousin. They also visited at the home of Mrs. Nellie (Cunningham) Anderson at Elkhart. Mrs. Anderson’s daughter Betty Hayes was buried on Monday. < You cannot antagonize and persuade at the same time.

County Extension Service News By ANN” HANCOCK Ladies Don't Forget Style Show Don’t forget to make your entries in the style show for achievement night! Each extension homemakers club is allowed to make three entries. Garments must have been made by an extension homemaker in Kosciusko county. Any type of garinent — child, adults, sportswear and formals will be included. All entries must be sent to the extension office by September 1. From the entries received the achievement committee will select a well rounded program. To make an entry send your name, address, along with a description of the garment and a swatch of fabric and picture if you have one to the extension office, courthouse. W’arsaw. All entrants will be notified after the committee has made its selections. Achievement night is October 28. There will be a dress rehearsal the night before. COUNTY TRIP - Reservations are pouring in for the September 30 trip to the Bavarian Village. There are only 25 left, so get them in soon so you won’t be left out. KNITTING & CAKE DECORATING - If you are interested in the advanced knitting and advanced cake decorating lessons to be offered in September be sure to send your name and address to the extension office. The lessons are open to the public. Cake decorating will consist of two lessons. Knitting lessons will be in a series of four. Send your name and address in if you’re interested so that we can notify you of the date, time and place. DATES — August 24, fair committee meeting at 1 p.m. at the women’s building. August 26, party decorations committee meeting at 1 p.m. at the women’s building. September 1. Christmas workshop committee meeting at 1 p.m. at the Women’s Building. PINEAPPLE DESSERT (can be made days ahead) 1 No. 1 can crushed pineapple. 16 large marshmallows, 1 carton Cool Whip (Small). Heat together, over low heat, pineapple (do not drain) and marshmallows. Stir occasionally. When marshmallows are melted let cool. Mix in Cool Whip and Freeze. You may add nuts and maraschino cherries. A loaf pan is best, about 4x4xß. This is a wonderful desert to get ready a day or two ahead. MRS. Following the dinner the ladies went to the home of Mrs. C. S. Myers in Syracuse for a social afternoon Attending with Mrs. Kline and Mrs. Myers were Mrs. C. D. Barnes. Mrs. R. W. Brown, Mrs. Melvin Markley. Mrs. Herbert Baumgartner, Mrs. Harry Phend, Mrs. Lehman Wemple and Mrs Robert Reed.

The couple was married on August 27. 1945, by Rev. R. V. Gould in Huntington. W. Va.. and are the parents of two children, Mrs. Dennis (Paula) Wuthrich of Milford and William at home. Miss Ruth Rode And Tony Zimmerman Harried In Bremen Church
A double ring ceremony united in marriage Miss Ruth Rode and Tony Zimmerman Saturday afternoon. Aug. 15, at four o’clock in the Community Gospel church, Bremen. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Rode of r 1 Whitestown and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Zimmerman of r 2 Milford. Officiating at the nuptial service was Robert Hueni, pastor of the Bremen church. Music was provided by Mrs. James Fair of Walkerton, organist. White gladioli and blue mums decorated the altar. Mr. Rode gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a short gown of bonded lace with a fitted bodice and partially full skirt. The long sleeves were also of lace. Her shoulder length veil fell from a sequined crown. The bridal bouquet was a cascade of white roses and baby’s breath. Attendant in Blue Mrs. Harlie Johnson of r 1 Whitestown served her sister as matron of honor. She appeared in a short blue gown of bonded lace styled with long lace sleeves. Her headpiece was blue flowers with a short veil. She carried a cascade of white roses and white carnations. ’ Marvin Miller of the U.S. Marine corps. California, was the best man. Ushers were Terry Zimmerman of r 2 Milford and Robert Hyden of r 1 Whitestown. The mother of the bride was attired in a blue dress and the bridegroom’s mother wore a two piece aqua dress with matching shoes and white accessories. Their corsages were white roses. Reception A reception followed the ceremony in the church basement. Blue and white daisies formed the table decorations.
