OBITUARIES
Guy Albert Hoover Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Guy Albert Hoover, 66, of r 3 Syracuse. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse community. Mr. Hoover passed away at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at his home of an apparent heart attack. He had been in failing health for sometime. Bom on August 6, 1904 near Syracuse, he was a son of David and Mary Jane (Earl) Hoover. He married Pauline Ruby on November 24, 1928 at Warsaw, and she survives. Mr. Hoover, a farmer, was retired from The Weatherhead , Company, Syracuse, in 1967.

In addition to the widow, survivors include three- sons, Robert of Anoka. Minn- John and Steven, both at home; two brothers, Oran Hoover of Bakersfield, Calif., and Donald Hoover of Albion; three sisters. Mrs. Mervin Corwin. Bakersfield, Mrs. Owen LeCount of Albion and Mrs. Gaylord Long of Winona Lake; and five grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death. Burial was in Syracuse cemetery. Andrew Mellott Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Andrew (Ed) Mellott. 84. of r 2 Syracuse. In
failing health for sometime, he died of a heart attack at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Wabash County hospital. Wabash. Mr. Mellott was bom near Etna Green on April 6,1886 to Jobe and Martha (Plummer) Mellott. A retired farmer, most of his life was spent in the BourbonBremen area. He moved to the Syracuse community 18-months ago. He was a member of the Winamac United church. His wife, the former Arvilla Rexa to whom he was married in 1907. preceded him in death in 1944. Survivors include one daughter. Mrs. Harold (Goldie) Mock. Syracuse; a son. Richard of Fort Myers. Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Marie) Garrett. Bremen: one brother. Archie Mellott. Muncie; one granddaughter and three greatgrandchildren. George L. Hire George L. Hire. 60. of 106 south Harrison street. Syracuse, was found dead at his home late Friday morning. In failing health for some time, death occurred some time on Thursday. A former marine mechanic at the Wawasee Boat Company, he was bom in Benton township. Elkhart county on December 24. 1909 to Earl and Verna (Grubb) Hire. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse community, he was united in marriage in 1937 to Alice Mann. She preceded him in death in October 1967. Mr. Hire was a veteran of WW n. One sister. Miss Mary Jane Hire of Syracuse, survives Funerai services were held Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Donald Ralph Young Funeral sen-ices were held Monday afternoon at Logansport for Donald Ralph Young. 60. of Brooksville. Fla. Death came at 4 am. Tuesday. Aug. 18, at Lakeland General hospital. Lakeland. Fla He was bom November 5. 1909 in Logansport, the son of Frank and Lorena (Sanders) Young Moving to Florida from No. Webster about a year ago, the Young family moved from Logansport to the North Webster community where they operated the Young Roofing Co. Mr. Young also was associated in the printing business. He was a veteran of WW 11. a member of Burnettsville Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and Egypt Temple Shrine at Tampa, Fla Survivors include his widow, Genevieve; two daughters, Lynn and Jean Young, both at home;
three sons, Thomas Hines of Brooksville, Fla., Robert Hines of Saint Pertersburg. Fla., and F. Ronald Young, Atlanta. Ga.; and two grandchildren. Interment was in Mount Hope cemetery. Masonic memorial services were held Sunday night. She underwent surgery in Goshen hospital Friday and developed pneumonia Sunday. Her room is 256. Mrs. Russell McAfoose and infant daughter of r 1 Leesburg was dismissed from Murphy Medical Center over the week end. Charles E. Park of Leesburg was treated in the emergency room of Murphy Medical Center over the week end. Mrs. Wayne Bucher of r 3 Syracuse returned to her home Sunday from the Elkhart hospital where she underwent major surgery August 11. Mrs. Thomas Bulger of Leesburg was dismissed from Murphy Medical Center Monday. Bucky Foster, son of the Elwood Fosters of Syracuse, is a patient at Goshen hospital. Ralph O. Bennett of North Webster has been released from Murphy Medical Center. Mrs. Carl Blankenship of r 1 North Webster has been released from Murphy Medical Center. Mr. Blankenship received treatment in the emergency room of the Center over the week end. Court News Asks Divorce Roberta Ruth Stuart of r 3 Syracuse has filed suit for divorce from Robert Lawrence Stuart. The couple married February 4, 1966 and separated August 5. 1970. Divorced Ronald Wayne Hertenstein of r 1 Syracuse has been awarded a divorce from Norma Hertenstein. She was granted restoration of her former married name of Norma Ganshorn. Diana Lung Receives MS Degree At Purdue WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue university’s summer session produced a class, of 987 students qualified for graduation this month. The total was slightly below the final tally of 1.018 summer graduates a year ago. Predominant on the list released by registrar Nelson M. Parkhurst were 646 qualifying for advanced degrees. Graduate students always outnumber the undergraduates in summer sessions. Among the 336 bachelor degree and 5 associate (two-year) degree candidates. 11 achieved graduation with “highest distinction.” and 22 graduation with “distinction.” The August class will be eligible to participate in Purdue's annual commencement ceremonies next June 13. The August graduation candidates include Diana Josephine Lung of r 3 Syracuse. She received a MS in education. PUSCHMANS VISIT BOYNE MOUNTAIN Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Puschman of Syracuse joined a group of 220 All American Life and Casualty Company representatives t and their families for a get-to-gether at Boyne Mountain, Mich., last week. In addition to the seminars held each day. the families enjoyed the resort activities. On the final evening, the traditional banquet was held. Dr. Herb True, noted research psychologist, author and educator was *the guest speaker. The company’s president. Mr. E. E. Ballard, concluded the meeting with an inspirational address during which he commented on the esprit de corps of the All Americans ami expressed thanks for their dedicated sen-ice to the public.

Auto Dealer Fined For Vehicle Inspection
Wawasee Motor Sales owner Everett Edgar of Syracuse was fined a total of $47.25 in justice of the peace court of Chris Kober on a charge of failure to conduct an efficient and thorough motor vehicle inspection check. The charge was made by Indiana state police following a complaint from residents in the area. A car was taken to the firm for an inspection check and officers observed an unlicensed mechanic making a safety inspection; permission was not obtained from the owner of the car before making repairs; the car was not raised off the floor; brakes improperly checked and the car’s suspension was not checked. Edgar is scheduled to appear before the vehicle inspection division. LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Herman Miller entertained at a dinner Wednesday evening for Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Miller of Fort Myers, FlaMr. and Mrs. Seth McFarren and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hollar of Milford. The Florida Millers also spent Sunday afternoon and evening in the same home.
