SMOKE BUT NO FIRE AT NORTH WEBSTER BANK North Webster firemen were called to the Farmers State Bank at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, when one of the air conditioning units shorted out causing the bank to fill with smoke. An employee of the bank, Mrs. Virginia VanCuren of North Webster, notified the fire department. Verland Bockman, North W r ebster fire chief, reported there was no fire, but just smoke from the burned out motor. The air conditioning unit involved was located outside of the bank building. No estimate of the amount of the damages was given, but it was considered to be minimal. INDIANA WATER PROBLEMS FEATURED The problems dealing with the control and disposition of water in Indiana will be featured prominently in exhibits at the ASCS state fair tent August 26 through September 7, according to Scott Hom chairman of the Kosicusko County agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) committee. One of the several midwestem states in what is called the "humid” areas, the problems of control and wise use of water here are varied and complex. The Wabash, White, Kankakee and several other major rivers with which the area is blessed place an added responsibility for their wise use and conservation, he said. The ASCS tent, located on the north side of the track near the Farmers’ Building at the state fairgrounds will have approximately 40 exhibits along the general theme of the yConsumer *s State in Agriculture”, chairman. Scott Hom reports.
