That’s what a portion of the 743 scouts did at the Makahiki gathering at Syracuse city park on Saturday. Victors and vanquished alike were happy, albeit fagged out. as a result of such vigorous competition.

the same name was founded in 1634 by Jean Nicolet and became famous some three centuries later for its professional football team Nicolet thought he was beaded for China. But he had to settle for what was then exclusively Indian country. How he came to miss
what is now known as Door county is not known. However, the Icelanders and the Swedes and the Norwegians did not make the same mistake. They recognized the unusual qualities of Door county and made it their home. Later the New Englanders — and many thousands of other Americans — came to enjoy the vacationland that is one of the best that Wisconsin has to offer The climate is ideal for the middle of summer with daytime temperatures in the 70’s and nights that are crisp and conducive to sleep Twelve county parks, three state parks, a wide variety of resort and cabin facilities and many outdoor sports, including excellent fishing, lure thousands here every summer. Roads winding along the shoreline cut through plush northern woodland, up and down green rolling hills, and under craggy hanging cliffs. Here and there you will see an offshore island, a peaceful cove or bay. a quaint harbor, or one of the many historical markers set up by the residents. The old lighthouses, some deserted and some still in use, and Indian villages are interesting to adults and fascinating to children. At Bailey s Harbor a lighthouse built over 100 years ago still is beaming its light to guide boats and ships in nearby water. The Chicago Motor Club — AAA suggests you follow the scenic roads through such colorful settlements as Sister Bay. Ephraim. Fish Creek. Egg Harbor, and Sturgeon Bay. Each has a charm all its own, and most boast of fine resorts, restaurants, a sheltered harbor and interesting shops Entertainment includes golfing, dancing, nightlife, concerts; summer theater, movies, boating, water skiing, skindiving, fishing and other summer sports The 300.000 acres of Door County include scores of wellkept dairy farms and many miles of cherry orchards. Harbors are filled with boats of every description, beaches are alive with sunworshippers, and the bays and coves, the lighthouses, the quaint homes and the rugged coastline are all reminiscent of New England. • The New England flavor is particularly present in Sturgeon Bay, an important lake port at the canal that bisects the county. Here you may browse among the city's four shipyards and watch pleasure and commercial craft in various stages of construction. You may also visit the two local yacht clubs or the marina. The first Waco building was built sometime around 1910 with some thought of making it a floating pavilion, however, the idea was discarded and it was built on land at the edge of Lake Wawasee. Washington Island is the largest erf several islands beyond the tip of Door County. It can be reached via ferry from Gills Rock. Mere than two centuries ago the Potawatomi Indians lived here The people Are primarily Scandinavian here also is the tlement in the country. Fishing is excellent, and there are some 100 miles of improved Toads to cover by car for much scenic viewing.
half and half l tablespoons vanilla In a 1-quart saucepan combine sugar, flour and salt; gradually add 2 cups light cream. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Cook 2 additional minutes. Add small amount of hot mixture to eggs; return all to-pan. Cook, stirring constantly, 1 additional minute. Remove from heat. Add remaining 2 cups light cream and vanilla. Chill thoroughly. Proceed with freezing according to freezer manufacturer’s directions. Yield: approximately IVi quarts. VARIATIONS Strawberry Ice Creamßeduce vanilla to 1 tablespoon. Combine 2 cups fresh mashed strawberries with V 4 cup sugar. When ice cream is half frozen, stir in sweetened fruit and continue freezing. Mocha Ice Cream: Increase sugar to 1 cup. Combine V 5 cup cocoa and 2 tablespoons instant coffee powder with sugar Chocolate Ice (ream: Increase sugar to 1 cup. Add 2 squares (2 oz. • unsweetened chocolate, cut up, to cream before cooking. Banana Ice Cream: Reduce vanilla to 1 teaspoon. Add 1 cup mashed banana. 2 tablespoons lemon juice and 3-4 drops yellow food coloring to chilled mixture just before freezing. Peach Ice Cream: Combine 2 cups mashed peaches and U cup sugar. When ice cream is half frozen, stir in sweetened fruit and continue freezing.

Maple Nut Ice Cream: Substitute 1 teaspoon imitation maple flavoring for vanilla. Stir 1 cup finely chopped nuts into chilled mixture just before freezing. NOTES ON FREEZING 1. Fill ice cream freezer can not more than 3 i full with ice cream mix. 2. Pack with 1 cup rock salt to each 8 cups crushed ice in alternate layers until level with top of can. 3. When ice cream has formed, electrical freezer will labor or hand model will be difficult to turn < approximately 20-30 minutes). Remove top and carefully draw out freezer whip. Press ice cream into can. Cover. Repack with salt and ice in 1 to 4 mixture abotit 1 hour.
COOLERS — Easy to Make Rainbow Milk Drinks: In pitcher or bowl, soften 1 pint lime, orange, lemon or raspberry sherbet. Gradually and thoroughly biend in 1 quart milk. Stir in U teaspoon vanilla. Serve in chilled glasses. Yield: 6 cups. Lemon Buttermilk Cooler: In blender or with electric mixer, blend 4 scoops lemon sherbet, 3 tablespoons sugar and 1 pint cold buttermilk. Serve icy cold. Yield: about 3 cups. Orange-Coffee Punch: In a large bowl blend together 3Vi cups cold milk; I'2 cup triple-strength coffee, chilled; 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon orange extract. Pour in a chilled punch bowl. Top with small scoops of orange sherbet. Serve immediately. Yield: 4?6 cups.
