up a big howl about the state’s unkept property. Today it is a place they can be proud of once again. In July of 1966 the division of public information issued a 10year master plan for state owned lands that included a beach to be called Wawasee Beach and to be created on the fish hatchery site. Later that same year this paper received a letter stating the management of the. Wawasee state fish hatchery was to be transferred from the division of fish and game to the division of state parks on January 1,1967. As of that date no information was available as to the future plans of the hatchery. For a short time it was thought Purdue university would obtain the property for use by its biology department but this too was not to come about. This spring extensive work began at the site and many im’Puss ’N Boots’ At Playhouse Children’s theatre — yes’. Children or adults, age makes little difference. The whole family will love the musical adaptation of the classic adventure “Puss N” Boots.’’ Kids especially delight in this quickly - p a c e d animal fabrication. Orville the Ogre resembles the terrifying Cyclopes of the Odyssey. Puss, the cat, is much like Zorro with whiskers, boots, and tail. Plot? Young commoner with cat falls in love with Princess, but her father, the King, creates problems. Solution? Cat comes to rescue with idea for master commoner jNot so easy — wait on — OgreZ complications. Cat deceives Ogre and talksitim into being mouse-type prey. Result? Cat beats Ogre at his own game. All of this is enhanced by delightful music. It’s a marvelous fairy tale done superbly by the Enchanted Hills playhouse apprentice company. Kids will love it and adults enjoy the simple fantasy..., Co-directors are John Newton and Janet Hayes. The cast includes Karen Runkel (as the queen), well known in Northeastern Indiana for past performances and also Mike Martin (as the king), known for his excellent work at the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre and PurdueIndiana Treatre. These two will be performing with several other talented student actors. “Puss N’ Boots” will be playing at the Enchanted Hills Playhouse now through August 15th. Call or write the Playhouse for more information. Reservations are not necessary Fishing Is Better Than Average Bluegills are biting at Chapman Lake. Barbee Lake arid Hill Lake in Kosciusko county. Pike Lake reports catches of bluegills and largemouth bass. Winona Lake is yielding smallmouth bass. In Tri-County State Fish and Wildlife Area, bluegills and largemouth bass are being taken Lake Wawasee is producing rock bass, bluegills and smallmouth bass. In LaGrange county* at Shipshewana largemouth bass are biting Pigeon River reports pike and small mouth bass and Fawn River smallmouth and rock bass At Chain O’Lakes State Park largemouth bass and crappies are being yielded Adams Lake reports bluegills, largemouth bass. Bluegills and largemouth bass are biting at Hogback Lake. Long Lake reports catches of bluegills and crappies. '

provements were made. The state operated recreation and fish area is located on road 8 and is on the east* side of Lake Wawasee. It is visited by numerous people daily. The tanks have been cleaned and stocked with fish for public displays. The ponds too have been stocked and lads and lassies under 16 are allowed to fish from their banks. Picnic tables are available and are used daily by many from near and far. The old fish hatchery building was renovated to house the offices of the conservation department's post number two with Lt. Al Watson as commander. He is on duty in his office on Mondays. A fish and game officer is on duty five days each week in the down stairs area. Parking areas, too. have been enlarged. The new facilities were dedicated on June 20 with Gene Bass, director of the fish and wildlife division, department of natural resources of Indiana; Thames Mauzy. Warsaw, state representative; and John Augsburger. Milford, state senator; on hand for the day’s activities.

A 1 I AT PIKE TANK — Tim Harris, eight-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harris of Plymouth, was caught by our photographer over the week end as he viewed the pike in the tank at the fish display. Many fish found in the waters of the area lakes are on display. Tim and his family, like many other visitors, enjoyed viewing the fish and visiting the area.

About all you need is a water lily plant; tub-type pool, flower pot or wodden box. and water. You can do the job for ten bucks. For details on how to do the

project, best varieties of water lilies, planting and care, ask for Indiana Cooperative Extension Service publication. HO-38. “Water Lilies.” at your county Extension office. Single copies are free to Indiana residents. Who knows, you may become so interested in the project you'll want to add other , water plants such as . cattails, water iris or floating water hyacinth. But a word of caution, don’t plant lotus unless you have a swimming pool size pool.

Ponds provide interesting fishing for the younger set and picnic tables are available for family outings. Located on the site of the old fish hatchery the recreation area was opened this past June and has attracted thousands of visitors since then.
