14 YEARS AGO. AUG. 9.1956 Roy Arnold. Milford night marshal for almost eleven years, tendered his resignation to the town board of trustees on July 27. His resignation .is effective August 16 and is due to Mr. Arnold’s health. Mrs’Dottie M. Drudge. 80, wife of Levi Drudge, of near Milford, died August 4 in Goshen hospital of Lobar pneumonia and complications. .The wedding of Miss Patricia Jean Kaiser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Kaiser of Milfordjand Lloyd M Borkholder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Manas Borkholder of New Paris, was performed Sunday at the First Brethren church of Milford Miss Sandra Brubaker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Brubaker of Pierceton, was declared the champion of \ the county 4-H club dress revue for 1956. Monday night at the fairgrounds. The annual Ruch reunion was held at the Waubee lake shelter house Sunday with about 50 people attending Barbara Jean and' Beverly Cain of Warsaw, and Judy Dippon were overnight guests of Janie Baumgartner Sunday. Corporal James L Kizer, member of the First Marine f)ivision at Camp Pendleton Calif. arrived in Milford early Monday morning to spend a-30-day leave with his parents, Mr and Mrs Paul Kizer. 24 YEARS AGO. Aug. 8. 1946 Mrs. Charlotte McSweeney. Kosciusko county probation officer well known in Milford, was the victim of an armed holdup about 1010 pm Wednesday. Mrs McSweeney was returning from a. 4 H meeting at Winona lake and was driving, north on Road 15. when about two miles from Milford, a car from the east blocked her path and held’a gun on her until she gave him her monej Miss June Kline, who is attending Northwestern university at Evanston. Hl., was home over Sunday, going back on Monday’ A basket dinner was held Sunday noon at Pinkerton's landing on Dewart lake, the occasion honoring the birthday anniversary of Mrs Paul Singrey of Elkhart and Mrs Theo Beer visited their son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs Delbert Hoerr, at Peoria. 111. last week. dinner guests of Mrs. C. R. Brittsan on Saturday. 30 YEARS AGO. Aug. 8.1940 William DeFoe Bettz, 61, former Milford resident, died at midnight Saturday at his Elkhart home. Stricken ill three months ago, Mr. Bettz was taken to the Robert Long hospital in Indianapolis the second week in July. Mr. Bettz operated a blacksmith shop in Milford and was an employee of the B & O Railroad. James Weaver, thirteen-year-old Wakarusa youth, paid a heavy penalty at Waubee lake Monday night for not being able to swim when he drowned in water that measured considerably over the head. It was announced last week that a large amount of money would be spent to rebuild and completely rearrange the structure of the Apostolic Christian Church. Otto Beer is in charge of the rebuilding and the members will do the labor. The present church was built in 1906. R M and Mae Fugote of Van Wert, Ohio spent from Friday to Sunday of last week visiting Albert Groves. The two Moore brothers, Ralph and Albert, of Nappanee who are carrot growers on a farm west of Milford hit a peak in their per acre yield of carrots this year. r 40 YEARS AGO, Aug. 7,1930 July 30. passed inth history with preliminary figures at the weather bureau indicating it was the hottest month ever recorded. From July 4 to July 30 not a single day passed without a temperature of 100 or hotter being officially registered at someplace in the country. Several vaccinations for smallpox have been made since Willard Charlton became ill with thedisease. C D. Wise is loading out wool again this week. Noble Myers and M. D. Chatten spent Monday in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Anglin of Warsaw are the parents of a nine pound and one half ounce baby daughter born Sunday evening. The mother is a sister of Mrs. Ronald Brown of Milford Dr H. C. Snyder and family will go to Lake Wawasee, Sunday where they will remain until the opening of the school term. The cottage they will occupy is located at Buttermilk Point. The drought which for several weeks has baked large areas between the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachian Mountains was listed as one of the worst since statewide weather records were kept. July records show Indiana to be the driest since 1901.
