Ga , August 21 to participate in the Nation*! color guard contest as part of the national convention of the American Legion. A funnel cloud was sighted north of Syracuse at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday and reportedly touched down without damage near the intersection of U. S. 6 and SR 13.

Dave Stoops was elected president of the Syracuse Lake Association for the 1969-70 year. Richard Stevens of Warsaw, Mo., is visiting his daughter, Mrs. George Bushong, Mr. Bushong and family at Syracuse for a month. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Waltz of Lake Wawasee have as their guests this week, their son and family. Dr. and Mrs. James P. Waltz 'and son, Patterson, daughter, Shelley, of Fort Collins, Colo Cynthia Ann Jones weds Douglas Wells Saturday in a double ring ceremony at Calvary Methodist church.
FIVE YEARS AGO Juanita Lundquist, 8, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. August Lundquist, will be appearing in the King and I at Enchanted Hills in September. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Niles of Boston street entertained for the Niles family reunion on Sunday. The Syracuse swimming team entered their first competition Thursday evening in a three-way meet with Nappanee and Bremen at the Nappanee pool. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schneider and daughters. Jane and Linda, of Davenport, lowa, were Friday callers at the J. E. Kern, Sr., home.
A farewell party was given Wednesday for Mrs. Vernon Martin who will be moving to Florida in September. Mrand Mrs. Ralph Wakely of Nappanee and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ryman and Tammy of Milford were Sunday evening callers of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Gilbert of r 1 Syracuse. Miss Mary Ellen Denton and Steven Roderick were united in marriage Saturday afternoon at the Evangelical United Brethren church at Syracuse.

TEN YEARS AGO Mrs. Parry (Lou) Sprague, a patient at the Austin Nursing home in Goshen, was honored by the Methodist society Tuesday with a life membership in the WSCS of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cripe and daughter of South Bend were recent callers at the Crist Darr and Earl Darr homes. Mrs. E. T. Anderson left Thursday for Washington and New York prior to sailing August 18 for her Stockholm, Sweden home after a visit here. Mrs. Ada Pfingst has entered the Austin home at Goshen. Mrs. Frank Bailey caught her foot on a rug in her home Monday taking a fall in which she narrowly escaped losing an eye when the scissors she was carrying penetrated the right side of her face to the bone. A daughter was bom August 8 to Mr. and Mrs. John Byland. Jr. C. R. Swenson and Lottie House were united in marriage by the Rev. Foster at his summer home in Epworth Forest on Wednesday evening. The 17th annual Hamman family reunion was held Saturday at the- Henry Kolberg residence. M-A-S-H Coming To Pickwick Theatre The best American .war comedy since sound, M-A-S-H, a 20th Century-Fox Korean war film opens Friday, Aug. 14, at the Pickwick Theatre, Syracuse. This is a war story unlike any you have ever seen. The three stars, Donald Sutherland, Elliott Gould and Tom Skerritt are army surgeons who develop a lunatic life-style in order to function and keep their sanity amid the everyday 1 horrors encountered in a mobile army surgical hospital (M-A-S-H) during the Korean war. Others in the cast include the head nurse. Major Hot Lips; another nurse, Lt. Dish, the major, a corporal and the chaplain. Also in the cast are nine professional football stars playing one of the wildest football games in sports history. Robert Altman directs the Ingo Preminger production filmed in Panavision. Ring Lardner Jr., wrote the screenplay from the book by Richard Hooker, a pseudonym. The book, a best seller, was written by one of the best surgeon’s in the nation. This is a must for movie goers.
