Final Rites For Former Jackson Township Trustee Amer S. Koontz, 64, of Sidney died at 6 am. Thursday at the Alfran nursing home in Warsaw where he had been a patient for three days. Mr. Koontz was bom in Monroe township in Kosciusko county and was a lifetime resident of the Sidney area and well known throughout the county. He was boro January 18, 1906 the son of Milton and •Elnora Workman Koontz. He married Lucille Copeland on June 14, 1930. She survives, as do one son. Kenneth, of Huntington. one grandson, one brother, Barnett of Wolcottville and three sisters, Mrs. Roy (Ester) Kreider of South Whitley, Mrs. Ruth Gebert of Pierceton and Mrs. Marie Miller of Sebring, Ha. For the past 20 years Mr. Koontz was associated with the K and A Mobile Service Station in Sidney. He was a trustee of Jackson township and a member of the Kosciusko county hospital board. Monroe township 4-H program. Mr. Koontz was a member of the Sidney Masonic Lodge and a charter member of the Sidney Lions club, an organization in which he maintained a perfect attendance since 1952. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ. Services were Saturday afternoon and burial was in the South Whitley cemetery. Emma H. Drake Mrs. Emma H. Drake, 77. died at her home in Milford, Monday. Death was due to cancer and followed an illness of several months. She was boro in Cando. N. D., December 16. 1892. and had resided in Milford the past three years. She was married to Basil Drake in 1911. Mrs. Drake was a member of the Milford Christian church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Wilbur (Elvina) Knepper of Milford; one son. Emery Drake of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Rudolph Hanson of Rock Lake, N. D. and Benjamin Hanson of Cando, N. D.; three sisters; Mrs. George Nelson, Mrs. Harry Mitchell, both of Tucson. Ariz., and Mrs. Harry Holland of Hastings. Minn One daughter Ruth, one sister and one brother preceded her in death. Services will be conducted today (Wednesday) at the Milford Christian church with Rev. Carl Shearer officiating and interment will be in the Milford cemetery. Gladys M. Jordan Mrs. Gladys M. Jordan. 65, r 5 Warsaw, mother of Keith Jordan of Leesburg, died Saturday at the Parkview hospital at Plymouth.
where she had been a patient for one day. She was bom December 4,1904, at Rensselaer and had resided in Marshall and Fulton counties prior to moving to the Warsaw area 20 years ago. She was married in 1922 to Lawrence Hobart Jordan who preceded her in death in 1965. Mrs. Jordan was a member of the Atwood American Auxiliary, the Purdue Home Ec. Club and the Atwood Sunshine Club. Survivors with the son are one daughter, Mrs. Eddie (Louise) Creighton, Warsaw; and 13 grandchildren. Two sons" preceded her in death. Services were conducted Tuesday at a Warsaw funeral home and burial was in Oakwood cemetery. George I. Watkins George I. Watkins, 72, r 1 Leesburg, died at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday at Goshen hospital. He had been in ill health for two months. ”' . , Mr. Watkins was born in Leesburg, June 14.1898, to Enoch and Alice (Pinkerton) Watkins. He lived in the community all his life. On March.s, 1927, he was married to Mary Hapner, who survives. He was a retired farmer. Also surviving are two sons, David trf Leesburg and Jim of Lake City, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Peggy Jean Greene of Leesburg; six grandchildren; and a brother, Grover, Sturgis. Mich. Services were conducted Saturday at the Milford funeral home and burial in Leesburg cemetery. Vida Lehman Hulick Mrs. Vida (Lehman) Hulick. 64, of Battle Creek. Mich., sister of Mrs. Oscar Haney of r 2 Milford, died Thursday at her home, of an apparent heart attack. A graduate of Indiana Central college at Indianapolis. Mrs Hulick earned a masters degree at the University of Chicago. For the past 15 years
she had been associated irith the Child Guidance Center at Battle Creek. Bora at Nappanee on October 20,1905, she was the.daughter of Joseph and Nettie May (Roose) Lehman. She was a member of the American Association of University Women. Surviving with the sister are another sister, Mrs. Theodore Schultz of South Bend; two brothers, Maynard Lehman of Mishawaka and Dale Lehman of r 1 Warsaw. Services were held Sunday in a Nappanee funeral home and burial in Union cemetery. Leonard R. Vanator Services were held Saturday for Leonard R. Vanator, 63. r 1 Leesburg. He passed away at 5:45 am. Thursday at Goshen hospital following an extended illness. A lifetime resident of the Barbee Lakes area, he was born near North Webster to Chester A. and Mary (Willard) Vanator on December 31. 1906. His wife, the former Effie Burgett to whom he was married in 1939, sur ives. Mr. Vanator was a selfemployed electrician and associated in the ice business. Surviving in addition to the widow are a daughter. Mr. Stan (Donna) Stucco of r 1 Leesburg; two step-daughters, Mrs. Eunice Baugher of r 1 Leesburg and Mrs. Franklin (Virginia) Grimes of North Webster; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also, several nieces and nephews. Burial was in North Webster cemetery. Mock addition. Mrs. Edna Weaver Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harris-Troxel funeral home. Chester Reed officiating and burial in North Webster cemetery, for Weaver, 79. r 1 Pierceton Mrs. Weaver passed away at 2:30 a.m. Monday at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, where she was admitted following an apparent heart attack. Bom at Gaypool on August 2. 1891. she was the daughter of Eugene and Lona (Miller) Shoemaker, and lived in the Pierceton area all of her life. On January 26. 1913 she married J. Stanley Weaver at Pierceton and he survives. She was a housewife. Also surviving are a daughter, Lucille Weaver of Pierceton; two sons. Ward of North Webster and Royce, r 1 Pierceton; five grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home Mrs. Wayne Cox Mrs. Wayne (Josephine) Cox. 62, Oswego, died July 29 at 2:45 a.m. at her home of complications following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Friday at North Webster and burial was in Oswego cemetery. A former employee of JomacNorth, Inc., Warsaw, she was born on November 14. 1907 at Fort Wayne to Carl and Ethel (Johnson) Harris, and married Wayne Cox on June 17, 1918. He survives. Mrs. Cox was a resident of Oswego for the past six years, moving there from Columbus, Ohio. She was a member of the Leesburg Order of Eastern Star and English Lutheran church at Columbus. In addition to the husband, she is survived by her mother; a Fort Wayne sister and brother. Mrs. Thomas O’Connell and Morton P Harris; and several nieces and nephews. Arnold William Austin Arnold William Austin, 67, of r 3 Syracuse died at 12:30 Tuesday morning at his home. He was born May 15, 1903 and married to the former Dorothy Hobbs Mr. Austin was a retired employee of the Indiana and Michigan Electric Co., and a member of the Saint Andrew’s United Methodist church at Syracuse. The Bubb funeral home at Mishawaka is in charge of arrangements. Henry P. Walter Services were held Monday at Wabash for Henry P. Walter, 52, treasurer of the B. Walter Company of Wabash.

Well known in the Syracuse area, he died unexpectedly and suddenly of an apparent heart attack Saturday at Wabash County hospital. He will be remembered by Wawasee residents on the south shore as one of the grandsons to vacation in the home of Mrs. Esther Walter, the home now belonging to John Myers. Survivors include his wife, three children, two brothers, three sisters and his mother, Mrs. Fred B. Walter. Charles M. Clift Charles M. Clift, 55, Goshen and father of Mrs. Steve (Patricia) Bartow of Syracuse, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Goshen hospital where he was admitted Sunday. In failing health since October 1969, death was due to cancer. A foreman at Smith Motor Supply for 19 years, Mr. Clift was boro March 29, 1915 at King George, Va., and moved to Goshen from Warsaw in 1954. He married Willodean Ringgenberg Gebert on November 9. 1954 in South Bend and she survives. He was a member of the Goshen American Legion and VFW’, Moose Lodge and a veteran of WW 11. Surviving with the widow and daughter are three sons, Charles Lee Clift of Warsaw, Bertis W. Gebert of Viroqua, Wis., and Robert Gebert, at home; one other daughter Mrs. Joe (Barbara) Gibson. Kokomo; a brother, F. Gift, King George, Va.; two sisters. Mrs. Wallace (Dorothy) Newton. King George; and Mrs. Joe (Virginia) Henderson, Fredericksburg, Va.; and 10 grandchildren. The Blocker-Harris Fifth Street Chapel. Goshen, is in charge of arrangements. Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. with calling hours all day Thursday and until time for the services Friday. CRIERS PLAY TUESDAY AT SOUTH SHORE CLUB A Criers Tournament wao the play for the day Tuesday for the ladies resulting in the following winners: First, Barbara Hulley; second, tie, Nora Speicher and Lee Wake; and third, Joan Stoelting. Winners in the 9-hole group were: First, Kate Auer; second, tie. Pearl Herrmann and Bertha Lehman; third, Needra Beebe and fourth Ruth Fuller. The first round of the club championship is in process. TO TAKE PART IN CONCERT TOUR Dana Joe Berghom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gene Berghom of r 3 Syracuse and a member of the Wawasee high school chorus directed by Varner Chance, has been selected for membership in the 1970 American concert tour of the School Band-Chorus of America. This group, made up of outstanding high school and university music students of the United States, will be making their fourth annual American concert tour when they leave Utah State university on Aug. 11. The group of 165 musicians and 25 adults will present concerts in Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California with a final concert as a benefit for the Primary Children’s Hospital at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake Gty. Appraise Estate The estate of the late Effie V. McVay of r 2 Syracuse has been appraised at 848,610.71. Heir to the estate is her son, Kenneth J. McVay of Lake Wawasee.
