and The Buckaroos. Co-Star of the “Hee-Haw’»’ show. Buck Owens says he will bring a “fun show with music” to the fair. The popular CBS-TV and Capitol Records recording star has sold well over three million records and albums as one of the nation’s most popular country singers. “What Hee Haw is," explains Owens, “is just a country' ‘Laughin’ with a ‘Beverly Hillbillies' motif. It’s a spoof of what life is like for a lot of hillbillies. But you notice we’re careful to present the music dead serious, just like
we’ve always done.” Owens apparently does not feel the “hayseed image” of the show interferes with his hope of “putting country music in the right perspective.” The hillbilly image has diminished considerably, he says. Owens says the reason for the universal popularity of country music is its melding of the “rock beat that everybody has today,” and he thinks, by and large, that the new electronically-charged brand “makes far better music over all than the old stuff.” Buck Owens has made several tours of Japan, Europe and recently the Scandinavian countries. Indiana Farm Prices Unchanged
Lafayette — Prices received by Indiana farmers for their products remained unchanged from mid-May to mid-June. However, Hoosier farm purchasing power dropped during the 30-day period. State-federal agricultural statisticians at Purdue university report that as of mid-June the Indiana Index of Prices Received stood at 290 per cent of its 1910-14 average, or the same as of midMay. It was down 11 points from the level erf June 15, 1969. The Indiana Livestock Price Index dropped two points, but the Grain Price Index increased. The Purchasing Power Index * declined from 75 to 74. If was six points lower than the June 15, 1969, level. Higher prices received by Hoosier farmers for corn, soybeans, hogs, lambs and turkeys were offset by declines in prices for wheat, beef cattle, milk, broilers and eggs. The hog-com ration decreased from 19.2 at mid-May to 19.0 at mid-June. This means 100 pounds ♦
of hog were equivalent in value to 19 bushels ctf com. A ration of 14 to one is considered normal. The egg-feed ration dropped from 8.1 to 7.6, while the turkeyfeed ration increased from 5.5 to 6.1. The broiler-feed ratio was down from 3.2 to 3.0. Prices paid by farmers for production items showed varied movement during the 30-day period. Items decreasing in price included bran, middlings, cottonseed meal, soybean meal, corn meal, beef cattle concentrate and hog feed containing more than 29 per cent protein. > Increases were recorded for hog feed. 14-18 per cent protein; dairy feed, chick starter, laying hen feed and broiler grower. 4-H HELPS - 4-H helps young people improve home and family living. - 4-H helps promote safety, health and fitness. - 4-H helps young people engage in community development.
