facts about ‘OUR TOWN’ Milford, Ind. By JERI SEELY This picture of the Christian church in Our Town should bring back a memory or two. Sorry but it doesn’t jog our memory one little bit! Trying to find out how old said photo is we went to the files and dug out a dedication program thinking it might be of some help and would solve the mystery of how old our newly acquired photo might be. We have not come up with an exact date but have narrowed it down to 46 years! From the program we learned the church was organized in October 5, 1866 in the home of Jacob Fefkner — where Lulu and Chester Felkner live now — one mile south of Our Town. We learned a building was constructed and the church grew and grew and grew! In 1902 the building was remodeled extensively. It was remodeled again in 1948. In 1958, just 10 years after being remodeled, it showed signs of crowded conditions and the Harlan property to the east was purchased for a parsonage. The old parsonage was then turned into a junior department building. In the early 1960’s plans began to take shape for an addition to the building. This included 13 additional classrooms, a baptistry, choir loft, and space for 300 seating in the sanctuary. Construction began on July 11, 1963 with the cornerstone being laid on September 29 of that year. The dedication service was held on Sunday, June 7, 1964. From all this information we come up with a 46-year-span in

which the photo could have been taken . . . 1902-1948!- Our reason: Not too many photos were taken prior to the 1900’s of buildings and in the 1948 remodeling program * the door was moved to the front of the church building. Maybe someone with a longer memory or someone who has been in Milford longer than this reporter can enlighten us on this! ’ In case you might be one of our many readers who has shown interest to the cement company we’ve found our answer and all of you who said Sandusky-Portland Cement Company can give your selves “’a”. We found a 1914 aflas that shows Kosciusko county and lists operations of the SanduskyPortland Cement Company on several of the area lakes. While looking through the atlas we found a number of towns that we didn't know existed in this county. Have you ever heard of Leeland? Heckton? Vawter Park? Millwood? Selby? Reeds? I do know that Vawter Park was incorporated way back when and was located on the southern shores of Lake Wawasee ... the . others don’t ring any bells at all. If you’re planning a dinner for a large crowd and need some help just give me a ring .. . this is my year for education in feeding 30 people or more. At one time we put together a meal for 180 women and girls then turned it over to friend husband and a group of men from the church. So far this year I’ve had the honor of being on hand to serve the MAD breakfast in honor of Congressman Bradamas, the election meals at the three precincts in Our Town, the , mother-daughter banquet at the Christian church and would you like to guess who’s planning the dinner for the Mason’s 100th anniversary next Saturday evening! BOOKED AT WARSAW Roderick Trestrail, 25, Milford, was booked in the county jail last week for failure to pay a justice of the peace fine assessed on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Trestrail was released after payment of his fine.
