Mrs. Lena Opal Bauer Mrs. S. A. (Lena Opal) Bauer, 77, 303 south Main street, Syracuse, died of an apparent heart attack, at 9 am. Wednesday July 8. A lifetime resident of this area, Mrs. Bauer was born in Elkhart on March 6,1893, to Mr. and Mrs. Milton and Manda (Bunter) Rentfrow. She was married January 1, 1915 to S. A. Bauer, who is in intensive care at Goshen hospital. Mrs. Bauer was a member of the Calvary United Methodist church, Kosciusko WCTU Daughters of American Revolution and on the republican election board for many years. Surviving her are the husband; one son Duane of Michigan City, Ind.; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister Mrs. Harry May of Elkhart. She was preceded in death by one son Joe. who was deputy sheriff of Kosciusko county; two sisters; and parents. . Services were held Saturday at the Harris funeral home and interment in the Syracuse cemetery. Mrs. Luella E. Noe Mrs. Luella E. Noe, 76, of r 2 Ligonier, died July 7 in the Goshen General hospital of complications after an illness of three weeks. She was born July 23. 1894, in Jackson. Mich., the daughter of William and Nora (Everett) Thatcher She had resided in the Kimmell community for the last 56 years of her life.

She married Claude R. Noe in 1914. He preceded her in death. Surviving her are four sons, Norman J., r 2 Ligonier, Robert, Columbia City, Roger, South Bend, and Ray T. of Eagle, Mich.; and six daughters, Mrs. Claudine Bolin of South Bend, Mrs. Alice Deetz of Wolcottville, Mrs. Lloyd (Margaret) Leslie. Ligonier, Mrs. Violet Mahnensmith. South Bend. Mrs. Dorothy Wisniewski, r 1 Cassopolis, Mich., and Mrs. Sharon Chenoweth of Mishawaka. Also surviving are one sister. Miss Nina Thatcher of Jackson, Mich., 34 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral was July 10 with Rev. George Souza presiding. Burial was in the Sparta cemetery. In failing health for several years, she passed away at her home Friday evening around 8 o’clock. Bom at Payne. Ohio, on May 23. 1890 she was the daughter of Abel and Alice (Kern) Evans. Her husband, Court, passed away in 1966. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist church, of the Order of the Eastern Star. Robinson officiated for services and burial was in Syracuse cemetery. Mrs. Effie Mae Strieby Mrs. Effie Mae Strieby, 81, 212 North street, Syracuse, passed away at 5:10 p.m. on July 8 at Goshen hospital where she was a patient. She had suffered a stroke several days prior. Bom at Syracuse on August 27, 1888, to Daniel and Mary (Swank) Wogoman, she had lived in the Syracuse community all of her life. Her husband, Jesse, died in 1961. She was employed in vcrious restaurants of the community. Surviving are a son, Dallas, of Syracuse; a daughter, Mrs. Vern (Viola) Davis, Goshen; 13 grandchildren and many greatgrandchildren. Services were held at Harris Funeral home Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Jack Farrell officiating Burial was in Syracuse cemetery. , Delbert Schmucker DelberLSchmucker. 68. former Milford resident, retired interior and exterior painter and floor finisher, died Saturday at Goshen hospital, to which he was taken two weeks ago from his home at 310 north Second street. Mr. Schmucker died of a lung ailment. Bom in Marshall county, southwest of Nappanee. March 15,1902, Mr. Schmucker had been a resident of Goshen for many years. He was a member of the Ligonier Eagles lodge. He is survived by his widow, the former Gertrude E. Hull, to whom he was married March 29, 1929; a son, Delbert. Jr.. Goshen; one grandson; two .greatgrandchildren; a brother. Ruben Schmucker, Nappanee, and, a half brother. Henry Schmucker. Elkhart. Services were held Tuesday at a Goshen funeral horrie and burial was 4n Millersburg cemetery.
Mr». Lydia E. Darr Services will be held at 1:30 tomorrow (Thursday) at Harris funeral home, Syracuse, for Mrs. Lydia E. Darr, 62, of 308 Dolan Drive, Syracuse. In failing health for sometime, she died of an apparent heart attack at 7:25 p.m. Monday at her home. Death was sudden and unexpected. A resident of the Syracuse area alFof her life, she was bom near Syracuse on September 16, 1907, to Louis William and Elnora (Ward) Miller. She married Lester Darr on September. 16. 1924, and he preceded her in death December 16, 1967. Mrs. Darr was a housewife, member of the Syracuse Church of God and a member of the Turkey Creek Senior Citizens. Survivors include a son, William (Bill) Darr of Syracuse; four grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; one sister, Mrs. Eleanor Blakesley of Syracuse and two brothers. Eugene Miller of Tempe. Ariz., and Russell Miller of Gas City. One sister and five brothers preceded her in death. The Rev. James McKibben will officiate and burial will be in Syracuse cemetery. Friends may call it the funeral home Wednesday afternoon until the time of the service on Thursday. Mrs. Clarabelle C. Murphy Mrs. Clarabelle C. (Lackey) Murphy, twin sister of Mrs. Herschell (Annabelle) Coil of Syracuse, passed away at 9:15 Sunday night at Marshall county Parkview hospital. Plymouth, following failing health for several years. A Plymouth resident, she was an abstract writer and resided with Dr. and Mrs. Coil at Syracuse for a brief period of time several years ago. Mrs. Murphy was bom at Plymouth to Harry and Peachie (Lawrence) Lackey and married John Murphy on June 17,1936. He preceded her in death in 1962. She was a member of Saint Thomas Episcopal church of Plymouth and an associate Tri

Survivors in addition to the twin sister are a step-daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Mary Ann) Wood of South Bend; one brother, Kenneth Lackey of Columbus, N.C., and three stepgrandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. this morning (Wednesday) in Plymouth with the Rev. David Hyndman, pastor of All Sainsts Chapel, Lake Wawasee, officiating. Burial was at Memorial Gardens Addition, Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth. Mrs. Adah M. Malcolm Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Union Center Church of the Brethren for Mrs. Adah M. Malcolm, 77, Elkhart, who died Tuesday at 7 a.m. in the hospital in said city. She had been hospitalized two weeks after suffering a stroke. Mrs. Malcolm, a former Nappanee resident, was the mother of Mrs. Charles Long of North Webster. She was bom in Upland on May 17. 1893 and married Earl Malcolm on February 5,1913. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1968. She was a member of the Union Center church and the Ladies Rural club. Surviving with the North Webster daughter are two other daughters, Mrs. William Musselman of Millersburg and Mrs. Richard Rink of Goshen; three sons, Robert and George, both of Elkhart and Donald of Argos; one brother, John A. Plank of Plymouth; one half sister. Mrs. Lucille Ferguson of Venturia, Calif.; 20 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Friends may call at the WrightYoder funeral home in Nappanee from 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) until noon on Thursday. Rev. Wendell Eller, pastor of the church will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Rosemary Wilson Mrs. Rosemary Wilson, 59, mother of Kent Wilson of Syracuse, died at 12:15 p.m. Monday at Bluffton's CaylorNickell clinic where she had been a patient nine days. She had been in failing health for the past 18 months with cancer. Syracuse residents for a short time, she was married to James Arnold Wilson on June 8,1937 and he survives. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were both teachers in the Goshen school system. Mrs. Wilson was bom in Parker on January 8, 1911 moving ro Goshen in 1948 from Roachdale, are graduated from Ball State university and taught school in the primary and kindergarten level for 35 years. During her 19 years as a teacher in the Goshen * school system, she taught ip the old Pike street and new Chandler schools. She was a member of the Saint James Episcopal church, Goshen, national education association, Goshen teachers association and the Elkhart county democratic women’s club. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Nettie Dotson, of Howe. Calling hours are today, Wednesday, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 at the Yoder-Culp funeral home, Goshen, where services will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. The Rev. Bruce Mosier will officiate. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hinderer of Syracuse and Mr. and Mrs. ■ VanCuren of North Webster. , * Rotarians Learn Os Migrant Children At the Tuesday dinner meeting of the Syracuse Rotary club, members were informed of teaching of migrant children for a two-month period at the Saint Andrew’s Methodist church, Syracuse, this year. A church sponsored event of the Church of the Brethren classes were held last year at Saint Martin dePorres church south of Syracuse’ Miss Marty Vanzo, one of three teachers for the children ranging in ages from four to 12, presented the informative program telling of their accomplishments and aims for the youngsters. Miss Vanzo also explained their teaching methods ami problems which arise due to a language barrier but a fulfilling reward is ac com plished in most cases when the youths are exposed to the facilities and foods through this two-month experience.

Harold Mauer Talks Toßotarians On His Travels To Foreign Lands
Harold Mauer of South Bend and vacationing at Lake Wawasee presented an informative program as he spoke to Syracuse Rotarians during a recent meeting. A retired member of the architectural firm, Mauer told of his world travels, residing long enough in each place to learn much of their living habits, customs and language of the people as well as types of buildings and characteristics of the land. His latest visitation was , Australia and he was able to capture many of the natives, animals and scenic beauties in his camera, presenting slides during his talk. John Earl Griffiths of Leesburg was treated in thhe emergency room of Murphy Medical Center over the week end. Mrs. James (Berneice) Longfellow of r 5 Warsaw was admitted to Murphy Medical Center on Monday, July 6, and is in room 301. Mrs. Longfellow expects to be released this week and her daughter, Mrs. Carlton (Donna) Arthur of Virginia, will assist in caring for her. Bruce Kell, manage of The Sign of the Fish organization at the old Waco site on Lake Wawasee, was speaker for the day telling of the objectives of the group in making an appeal to youths in need of association and communication with other persons with a hope of providing direction with exposure to Christianity as a course. Kell will be a junior at Indiana university in the fall.

Syracuse, paid a fine totaling $23.25 in jp court for driving a Mercedes-Benz with an expired inspection sticker. Complete College Enrollment Now Veterans of Indiana were reminded today by J. C. Robison, veterans administration regional office director, that there is still time to complete college enrollment for the fall term. Robison urged veterans not to wait until the last minute if they plan to use their G.I. training benefits. As a prerequisite for enrollemnt, veterans must secure their certificate of eligibility from the regional office in Indianapolis. The current G. I. Bill covers men and women who served after January 31, 1955. Present benefits provide $175 a month for single veterans and larger amounts for those who are married.
