Car Rolls Into Webster Lake A 1967 Pontiac belonging to Fred Clark, Jr., North Webster, was recovered from Webster Lake Sunday morning. The automobile, stolen from the Clark residence sometime early Sunday morning, was seen by a fisherman at 5:30 Sunday morning as it rolled into the water, lights on, in front of the Ray Bockman home. on his property around 2 a m Sunday morning No clue to the identity of the person or persons who took the Clark vehicle has been found. FALSE ALARMS FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT Syracuse firemen responded to a call at 1:52 a.m. Monday morning when the alarm sounded at Liberty Homes due to a malfunction of the alarm system. Firemen also responded to a false alarm at 11:38 a.m. on Friday for a fire in a barn at the Jerry Grady farm south of Syracuse. FORMER TRASTER PROPERTY SOLD Stanley Insley has purchased the Traster property on Carroll street, Syracuse, from Ruth (Mullins) Hedges. The building was originally built to be used as a church, then as a school and later an addition added to house threshing rigs and a feed mill. The building has also been used for a saw mill and a machine shop, and more recently was used for a boat storage. Stan is in the process of razing the Syracuse landmark. Brothen Speak Briefly Before Reporting For Duty Dennis Mench of Syracuse has returned home from a year’s tour of duty in Viet Nam. He will report August 9 to Fort Riley, Kans., where he expects to be stationed until February 3. He spoke briefly with his brother. Tom, before the latter left July 9 for duty with the U. S. navy in Saigon. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. James Mench of Syracuse. CHARLES WESTERMAN NAVY ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL PRESENTED TO C. R. WESTERMAN The Secretary of the Navy has presented the navy achievement medal to Charles Richard Westerman. 22. fireman, USN. Westerman is a resident of Milford and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Avalos of said town. He entered the navy at the age of 17, The award was presented in South Bend on Friday, July 10. The citation reads as follows: “For professional achievement while serving with United States Forces engaged in riverine assault operations against the Viet Cong communist aggressors in the Republic of Viet Nam from February to August 1969. Fireman Westerman served as gunner on board Assault Support Patrol Boat 132-12, a unit of River Assault Squadron Thirteen, engaged in suport operations with elements of the Second Brigade. Ninth Infantry Division, United States Army. He participated in operations involving numerous combat missions which struck deep into the enemy infested waters of the Mekong Delta and inflicted heavy losses to the enemy. In each instance, he reacted quickly and courageously. Despite exceedingly long operational periods, he unfailingly met the requirements of the combat situation with enthusiasm and determination. His efforts were instrumental in keeping his boat in a combat operational status and fighting it to its full capability. Fireman Westerman's performance of duty and sense of responsibility were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”
