Airman Steven Pharos Arrives In Alaska Airman 1C Steven Phares has arrived at Elmendorf AFB. Anchorage, Alaska, to serve a two-year tour of duty as a weapons and munitions specialist. HOMEMAKERS EXTENSION CLUB MEETS Perry Township Homemaker’s Extension Club met at the Eagles hall Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Dean Hite opened the meeting with the history of the song of the month, “One Nation Under God” and members united in singing of the patriotic song. Mrs. Tom Hite was in charge of the meeting and also gave the devotions. The verse of the month was read by Mrs. Dorothy Bobeck. Mrs. Dean Hite talked on "Nqjrition,” Mrs. David Dunlap, on “Gardening and House Plants,” and Mrs. Forrest Slabaugh had the Show and Tell portion of the program. She showed an old Star quilt and also told of the many uses of wheat germ She passed out samples of cream mints along with the receipe. Mrs. Elbert Roe gave a report of the Homemakers Conference held at Purdue recently. Mrs. Roe and Mrs Russell Wallace were representatives of the club at the conference. The project lesson “Unfair Business Practices” was given by Mrs. Ides Paules. Mrs. Earnest Shell and Mrs. Elbert Roe were appointed on the committee for supervision of the filling of ditty bags for service men. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Richard Fisel and Mrs Marie Chiddister. The fiext meeting will be the summer picnic at the Lake Wawasee cottage of Mrs. Hascal Crothers on August 5. Members are asked to bring suitable white elephants for the recreation period. List Winners In Demonstration Club Contest Winners in the Perry Busy Bees 4-H club demonstration contest were — Junior Division: Debbie Reynolds. Ist; Tonya Moore. 2nd; and Jayne Conrad. 3rd Senior Division: Cindy' Reynolds, Ist; Connie Stout. 2nd; Jane Bueker. 3rd. Winners will go on to compete in district and state contests. CHEERLEADERS RETURN FROM CAMP Miss Susie Harper, Miss Pat’ Bolinger, Miss Debbie Holm and Miss Julie Ray, cheerleaders at West Noble high school have returned from cheerleading camp at Smith-Walbridge, Syracuse. The girls learned new cheers, pompom routines, tumblings, and crowd-handling techniques. They received an “Excellent” award in their daily competitions. Glenda Longenbaugh Visits Philippines Glenda Longenbaugh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Longenbaugh of Ligonier, left July 29 from O’Hare Airport, Chicago, for a six weeks visit to the Philippines. Her traveling companion is Miss Sonia Bateo, a former teacher in the West Noble School Corporation. They will be staying with Mr. and Mrs. Argulano B. Bautista, aunt and uncle of Miss Bateo. Mr. Bautista is an attorney for the Philippine government. They plan to return to the United States on August 4th. At that time Miss Longenbaugh will resume her studies as a senior in Huntington college and Miss Bateo will be teaching this fall in a school near Plymouth. Ammon Maxwell Zerbe Ammon Maxwell Zerbe. 76, of 112 east 3rd street, died of a heart ailment at the residence on July 2. He was bom June 26. 1894. in Argos. He had been a resident of this vicinity for the past 22 years, where he worked as a chef. Survivors include his wife Myrtle, one son. Earl of South Bend and two stepdaughters, Mrs. William Nolan. Syracuse and Mrs. Russell Emerick of Ligonier. Also surviving are four step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren . Services were held at the Ligonier funeral home Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Clinton Wasson officiating and burial was in Sparta cemetery at Kimmell. Wawasee Arts Foundation Receives Grant SYRACUSE — The Wawasee Arts Foundation has announced the receipt of a grant from the Indiana State Arts Commission. The grant of SI,OOO will be used during the 1970 season at The Enchanted Hills Playhouse to underwrite liberal discounts for senior citizens and the disadvantaged. The ISAC provides aid for a ■wide variety of programs and services in the performing, visual and literary arts. We are actively seeking groups of senior citizens and the socially, physically or culturally disadvantaged to participate in programs at the Playhouse.” Continues Investigation Os New Paris Theft Donald Burkholder, 15, New Paris, is being held for delinquency and second offense curfew law violation and Elkhart county police officers are searching for a Syracuse teenager in connection with a breakin at New Paris Friday. Michael Clark, 18, Syracuse fled from police officers on foot after his car was impounded by officers. Patrolman M. Jay Shaffer stopped the two youths at CR 25 and 46 east of New Paris.
