A graduate of Syracuse high school in 1950. he married the former Carol Frederick of Syracuse and has three sons. Mark. 13. Craig, 10. and Steve. 7. Carroll says. “You can make out of a community what you want to and I’ve always been proud of ours and of being a part of it." The winning letter was submitted by his 10-year-old son Craig, shown above in the foreground in front of his father. The letter reads as follows: “I v.ould like to recommend my Dad. Dr. Uphouse Named Red Cross Chairman Dr. Norman Uphouse, director of teacher education, Grace college and seminary, Winona Lake, will serve as chairman of the Kosciusko county chapter of the American Red Cross for the next fiscal year. Dr. Uphouse was elected at the annual meeting of the chapter held recently at the Shrine building, Kosciusko county fairgrounds. Dr. Uphouse. has served as both first and second vice-chairman for the chapter, has been active in the local chapter for over 10 years. He is an eight gallon blood donor. Mrs. Uphouse. a licensed practical nurse, has assisted at the visits of the Red Cross Bloodmobile unit in Kosciusko county, and with other Red Cross programs. A daughter Deborah, has been active in the safety service programs of Red Cross as a w-ater safety and first aid. instructor. Her husband. Captain David E. Wingard, a helicopter pilot stationed at Fort Belvoir, Va.. since his return from Viet Nam, is being reassigned to Fort Knox. Ky. The Uphouse’s have two other daughters, Hannah, a senior at Biola college. La Marada, Calif., and Abby a sophomore in the Warsaw Community schools. Syracuse, second vice chairman; Dwight Bechtol, retiring chairman, will be treasurer; Mrs. Jesse Finke, assistant treasurer; and Mrs. Frank Greco will serve as secretary. Nansen Kline of Fort Wayne, former Milford resident, had surgery Saturday for a fractured hip at the Saint Joseph hospital in Fort Wayne after a fall Thursdayevening. He is in room 327. Rick Hunsberger of r 1 Milford is a patient in Goshen hospital, after a fall from a wagon Saturday, with a fractured pelvis. He will remain there about ten days. Jesse Anderson of r 1 North Webster has been dismissed from Murphy Medical Center at Warsaw. Mrs. Edith Todd of Syracuse was released from Elkhart hospital following surgery and treatment for injuries in a lawn mower accident at the home of her daughter. Coleen Walker, 8, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Walker of Syracuse, was released Friday from Goshen hospital following a tonsillectomy Thursday. Robin Dust, daughter of Mrs. Bett Dust of Syracuse, underwent a tonsillectomy at Goshen hospital and has returned to her home. Mrs. Gaylord Jones of Syracuse Lake is a patient in Saint Luke’s hospital, Chicago, where she is undergoing tests and observation. She is in room 335. Harold Southard of Syracuse has been dismissed from Wabash county hospital. Millard Hentzel of Syracuse was admitted to Veterans hospital at Marion on Saturday. Janet Marvel And Larry Fifer Married In Warsaw On June 5
Janet Jean Marvel and Larry Charles Fifer were united in marriage in a double ring ceremony by Rev. Donald Abbey in Trinity United Methodist church at Warsaw on June 5 at 7:30 o’clock. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Marvel of Leesburg. Mr. and Mrs. Russell C. Fifer. Jr., of 710 East Fort Wayne street. Warsaw, are parents of the bridegroom. The pews were decorated with bows and daisies and white pompons were found at the altar. Mrs. Mamie Braddock of Warsaw provided traditional wedding music. Bride In Taffeta Given in marriage by her father. the bride chose a full length A-line gown of mira-mist over taffeta caught at the empire bodice. The short puff sleeves featured lace daisy medallions which also outlined the chapel-length train. Her veil of silk illusion was shoulder length. The daisy motif was repeated in the bridesmaids’ gowns which were empire bodices with short' flared sleeves and were yellow with white flocked daisies. The bride carried a cascade

Mrs. Carl Nichols, sister of the bride, r 5 Warsaw, served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Joyce Marvel, sister of the bride, Leesburg, and Mrs. Barry Beatty, Leesburg. Tom Robbins of Winona Lake served as best man. The ushers were Jim Garman and Barry Beatty of Leesburg: Dan Fifer, brother of the bridegroom; and Glen Cromwell, Warsaw. Reception Follows A reception followed in the church parlor with 125 attending.. The couple spent their wedding trip traveling to Cedar Point at Sandusky. Ohio, and enjoying the week end there. They are residing at 1002 East Arthur street, Warsaw. Both Mr. and Mrs. Fifer are graduates of Warsaw Community high school. He is a draftsman with United Telephone Company.
