Zm V jfl ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED — Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson. Leesburg, announced the engagement and approaching marriage of her daughter. Diane Yoder, to Allen Rudd. Warsaw. The wedding will take place June 20 at 3 p.m. in the Leesburg United Methodist church. Miss Yoder is a 1970 graduate of Warsaw high school and is employed at R. R. Donnelley's in Warsaw. Her fiance was also graduated last week from Warsaw and is an employee of Bertsch Vending Company. Inc.. Warsaw. Awards Day At Leesburg Awards day was held at the Leesburg school Friday morning. The meeting was opened with the pledge to the American flag ami the club creed recited. Mrs. Harold Becraft gave the history of the song of the month. “Blest Be the Tie That Binds " Meditations were given by Mrs Clayton Kerchanfaut. Mrs Robert Wagnor gave the garden remarks. The business meeting was conducted by Mrs Elsworth Everest. The lesson. “Meals For Unexpected Company.” was given by Mrs. David Ramsten. There were 11 members present. KINDERGARTEN CLASSES VISIT FARMS The morning and afternoon kindergarten classes met at the school at 10 30 last Tuesday morning They went to the Emra Stookey farm to see the guinea pigs, then back to the basement of the United Methodist church to play games. They returned to the school to eat their box lunches in the cafeteria. The lunches were packed by Mrs. William May. Mrs. Robert Clay, Mrs. Ray Halloran and Mrs. Max Miller. After eating they went to the

Max Miller farm. They took a hike and played. Before returning to school they went to see the Robert Allen family duck farm. The mothers who drove and helped with the children were Mrs. Dan Michael, Mrs. John Clay, Mrs. Melvin Gunter. Mrs. Robert Sadenwater, Mrs. Woodrow Howard. Mrs. Don Harney and Mrs. Clifford Gagnon. There were 50 children with both classes and included three brothers and sisters. SUZANNE CIRCLE . HAS MEETING The Suzanne circle of the Leesburg United Methodist church met on Monday evening, June 1. in the home of Mrs. Herman Buckingham. Mrs. Floyd Newton gave a devotional entitled “Serenity” by James Allen. Mrs. Newton was also in charge of the program and read an article entitled, Why Churches Are Worried in the United States,” from the U. S. News and World Report. Discussion period followed. During the business meeting the circle discussed plans for its rummage sale to be held during Leesburg Days. There were 10 members present for the hostess to serve refreshments to. LITTLE LEAGUE SEASON UNDERWAY The Little League traveling league held a home game last Wednesday at 7 p.m. They played Sidney and the score was Leesburg I. Sidney 0. The next traveling league game will be played June 17 at home. The traveling league is coached by Howard Lursen. Mr. Lursen is also commissioner of the Little League. The pony league played at Sidney. The score was Sidney 6, Leesburg 3. Tuesday evening. June 9. 7 p m . the regular Little League teams start their season with team one playing team two and team three will be playing team four. These Little League teams will be playing games every Tuesday and Friday evening at 7 o’clock. The regular Little League teams are getting new uniforms. The Little League is also building a concession stand. It will be run by Mrs. Gene Zartman and ’the proceeds will go for Little League equipment. A new pony league diamond was built during the year. Coaches and their assistants for the little league team are as follows: Frank Rader and Merl Poling for team 5, Junior Goon and Barry Beatty for team 3. Anthony Zykan and Larry’ Koser for team 4. Alton Frantz, team 2, Robert Smoker and Roger Smoker, team 1. The pony league is coached by Lee Tusing. Clifford Smith is assisting Howard Lursen with the traveling league. MRS. ED TEEPLE IS HOSTESS The Women’s Missionary Society of Calvary Baptist church of Oswego met with Mrs. Edward Teeple on June 1. The meeting was opened with prayer by Mrs. Robert Chambers. Mrs. Jacob Kliever. missionary. was the special guest speaker The business meeting was conducted by Mrs. Alden Clark. The closing program for the Bible school was discussed and the reception for Mr. and Mrs. Butch Hammond was also discussed. It was decided to attend a meeting at the tabernacle at Winona Lake for next month’s meeting. Closing prayers were by Mrs.
Charles Hunter. Mrs. Marvin Fuller and Mrs. Alden Clark.* There were 17 ladies and three children present. MRS. STEPP SPEAKS AT BACCALAUREATE Mrs. Kenneth Stepp, sister of Mrs. Raymond Dimberg, spoke at the baccalaureate services at Adrian college, as her farewell to the college. Mrs. Stepp was director: of student counciling at the college. Mrs. Verl Young. Mrs. Dimberg’s mother, was the mother of the ATO House at the college. She attended the services also. Linda Dimberg who attended the college for two years and now is at Holy Cross school of Nursing at South Bend, was also there Mr. and Mrs. Larry Elliott were graduates of the college and Larry was given the gavel to become active as the president of the board of directors of the alumni. Mr. Elliott is the son of Mrs. Dimberg. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Dimberg attended these services at the college at Adrian. Mich. TIPPY LEE CLUB IN JUNE MEETING The Tippy Lee Homemakers Hub met June 3 at the home of Mrs. Raymond Hartman.. The meeting was opened in the regular form A discussion lesson on the Generation Gap was given by Mrs. Hal Strong.’ During the business meeting conducted by Mrs. Richard Allen tentative .plans were made for the bazaar which will be held during Leesburg Days. Health and safety remarks were given by Mrs. Hal Strong cm Vitamin B Mrs. John Flory had the meditations and the garden remarks were given by Mrs Max Shively. There were 13 members and one guest. Mrs Hartman and her co-hostess Mrs. Hal Strong served the refreshments Receives Injuries In Freak Accident Mrs. Edith Todd of r 4 Syracuse was admitted to Elkhart hospital late Sunday- night for injuries received in a freak riding mower accident at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Helen Adair, where she resides The accident occurred around 9:21 p.m. as Mrs. Adair was riding the mower on an incline and Mrs Todd attempted to assist her arid was pinned by the mower as it rolled over. KAY NOEL HONORED AT BRIDAL SHOWER Kay Noel was honored at a bridal shower on June 7, given by Mrs. Francis Oswalt and Mrs. Steve Zumsteg. Those in attendance were, Mrs. Stella Dukes. Mrs Karen Layne, Mrs Sandy Logan, Mrs Herschel George, Mrs. Walter Ulery, Mrs Doris Cretcher? Mrs. Don Brookins. Mrs Pauline Buck, Mrs. Lewis Noel. HOMEBUILDERS HAVE PARTY Last Saturday evening the Homebuilders Sunday School class of the Leesburg Brethren held a party at the Brigade barn. There were six couples who enjoyed playing baseball followed by a weiner roast

WMC Meets With Mrs. Drummond At Winona Lake The WMC of the Leesburg Brethren church met in the home of Mrs. Tom Drummond of Winona Lake Noonday evening. Their were twelve members present. During the business meeting conducted by Mrs. David Willet the election of officers was held with the following results: President — Mrs. Howard Immel; first vice president or project chairmen — Mrs. Robert Wilson ; second vice president or program chairmen — Mrs. Glen Stauffer; secretary — Mrs. Marlin Rose; treasurer — Mrs. Mike Foreman; prayer chairman — Mrs. Edith Young. The next meeting will be a salad bar at the supper hour followed by installation of officers? ALUMNI MEETS IN WARSAW JUNE 6 The Leesburg-Oswego alumni banquet was held Saturday evening at the Shrine Building in Warsaw. Visitations was from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the meal was served at 7 p.m. During the business meeting conducted by the president Jerry Kammerer election of officers was held. New officers are as follows: Norm Hagg — president; Ellsworth Everest — vice president; Robert Bishop — secretary and treasurer. Entertainment was by the Chain-of-Lakes Barbershop Quartet from Columbia City. Fred Stookey, r 4 Warsaw, was honored for being the oldest graduate present. He was given the centerpiece from the head table. There were 108 present Next year’s banquet will also be held at the Shrine Building BETTY MURPHY TO SHOW SLIDES This Sunday evening at the Calvary Baptist church of Oswego Betty Murphy will be showing pictures and telling of her trip to Israel. The service starts at 7 p.m. The Bible School is under way and the first day attendence was 95 boys and girls, it will run June 8 thru June 19. Joy Johannsen Receives Degree Joy Anna Johannsen received her diploma for a three year course in Christian Education at Moody Bi We Institute, Friday. June 3, at 2:30. She returned home with her finance, Jerry Teeple and spent the week end with the Robert Teeple family. She moved to Winona Lake Sunday evening where she is employed at Grace college as a switch board operator. Hand Bell Choir To Be United Methodist Church The Cardinal Center Hand Bell Choir from the Cardinal Learning Center was at the morning service last Sunday morning at the United Methodist church The choir is directed by Mrs. Howard Wilson, the narration is by Howard Wilson UMYF HAS BANQUET Sunday after church the UMYF of the United Methodist church had a banquet to honor the graduating seniors. Kay Noel Receives Degree Kay Noel received her BS degree in Speech Pathalogy and Audiology during graduation ceremonies held at Ball State university. Kay also received the Royalty Memorial Award for Excellence in Speech Pathalogy and Audiology. The award is given by the faculty to the graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding performance. Kay was also the recipient of a certificate for outstanding schalastic achievement, presented by Dr. Alan Huckleberry head of the Speech Dept. Allen Promoted In Rank Army specialist fourth class Earl James Allen was recently promoted to this rank. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover C. Allen of r 2 Warsaw. He is a 1962 graduate of Gaypool high school. He recently completed a year of army duty in Viet Nam, where he was in artillery and later in Federal Direct Communications in artillery. Garden Club Members Enjoy Floral Lesson Members of the SyracuseWawasee Garden club enjoyed a lesson on flower arranging for their June meeting at the Lake Wawasee home of Mrs. Ralph Clingaman. State flower show judge Mrs. Leo Noirod of Waterloo presented the flower program and also the door prizes of special Iris plants from her garden to Mrs. R. C. Tytler, Mrs. William Brammer and Mrs. Ernest Buchholz. Mrs. Noirod is also an instructor at Purdue Extension in Fort Wayne and will have a program this fall entitled, “Fun with Flowers” and is open to the public. Information may be gained through garden club members. There were 12 members and one guest, Mrs. Harmon Harper of Cromwell, in attendance. Mrs. Maurice Koher will entertain for the next meeting to be held July 7. CELEBRATES FIRST BIRTHDAY Terry Ryman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ryman of Milford, celebrated his first birthday Sunday. May 31. at a family partyin his parents’ home. Guests included his greatgrandmother, Mrs. George Reed of Nappanee; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Ryman of Nappanee and Mr. and Mrs. Hinton Gilbert of r 1 Syracuse. CLIFFORD WOLF HONORED MAY 26 A birthday celebration was held in honor of Clifford Wolf in his home on Tuesday, May 26. Guests included Mrs. Hazel Lentz, Miss Helene Lentz. PLACES FIFTH IN LIVESTOCK JUDGING Dave Gall of Syracuse placed fifth high individual in livestock judging and will judge in the state contest June 11 at the state fairgrounds as a result of the area 10 4-H and FFA, judging contest Saturday in St* Joseph county. J > Zale Frey, area extension agent, will work with the registration and tabulation committee at the state judging contest.
