Festival - (Continued From Page 1) nexation was entirely taken up with considerations of a site for the Ralston-Purina Company and no work was done o» its many projects, that of mapping out areas to be annexed, Mr. Brembeck stated. At the group’s meeting next week they hope to pin down annexed areas to submit to the next MAD meeting. The areas will then be submitted to the Milford town board for their approval. and. if approved, to be passed in ordinance form. President Myers again scored town attorney William Gerard for failure to attend regular Milford town board meetings. “There are important legal questions to be answered,’’ Myers stated, "and Mr. Gerard is never present to answer them.’ He had reference to the stop sign at road 15 that was recently knocked down. It was learned that the state does not plan to put the sign back up. and. inasmuch as this is at a busy corner where school children cross several times each day. MAD went on record as strongly recommending to the state highway department that the stop sign be reactivated. Secretary Fehnel was asked to write the state highway department a letter to this effect. John Augsburger. Jr., and Dennis Sharp, co-chairmen of the retail merchants’ committee, said the contest had been concluded where Milford junior high school students painted barrels to be put on streets as trash containers. (See photo on another page, this issue, for winners.) It is hoped the barrels can be placed yet this week. Mrs. Darrell Om decried the fact that a factory was moving into her neighborhood which she termed a residential neighborhood. “This points out once again the importance of an effective zoning ordinance for the town of Milford,’’ she said. Incorporate MAD Mr. Alt read a letter he had from a Warsaw attorney stating it would cost approximately S3OO
to conclude articles ot incorporation for MAD. The letter said it would protect MAD in areas of liability and make it a non-profit group to which tax-de-ductible donations could be given. Another estimate was’ that it would cost $750 to «incorporate MAD. Considerable discussion followed. some members pointing out that the areas of liability were small and unlikely and that the S3OO could be spent to a better purpose than for incorporation of the organization. Dean Troup told the group there would be no report on parks and recreation until the town’s law suit with heirs of the late ’ Cleo W. Estep estate was settled. Arch Baumgartner discussed legislative matters, stating the town board was refiling for a federal grant for the installation of a trickle disposal plant. T’.e matter has come before the Milford town board at its recent meetings, and was keeping the plant and its sewage disposal "V system bn its agenda. Street Festival The matter of the purchase of a street sweeper for the town came up again, and it was suggested MAD hold a street festival. combined with a chicken barbecue, in order to raise funds for a street sweeper. It was suggested the group stage a festival on Main street in the business block in late September. LAKELAND LOCALS Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bushong ■ and family of Sypracuse left last week to make their home at South Miami, Fla.
