Milford Home EC Classes For Boys And Girls
The home ec classes have been humming with activity at Milford for the past five weeks when the boys came in from shop and the seventh grade girls changed from cooking to 8 sewing under the guidance of Mrs Paul Brembeck The first week over eighty students were learning to thread

The program began with the presentation of scholastic awards, which were given to the top students in each specific field The remainder of the ceremonies included athletic awards. GAA awards, pep club and cheerleading awards as well as physical fitness awards

It was Earth Day and every one felt that we should do something to help beautify our area So. the student council got together with their sponsors. Mr. Byers and Mrs Perry After careful planning they worked up a project for the whole junior high school The project took place on the 21 and 22 of May On the 21. the students came to school in casual type clothes They picked up trash and litter from along the roadsides Afterwards, there was a picnic 0 Finally, on the 22 every student dressed up and attended award day.

Student Citation At Indiana University Franklin Grenard of r 1 Syracuse was among the more than 1,000 outstanding students at Indiana State university saluted at a special Honor Day convocation last week Student citations were presented for scholarship, leadership, service skill and ability. Brademas Calls For Students To Serve Country In Commencement Address
Congressman John Brademas (D-Ind) Sunday in a commencement address at W’awasee Preparatory School urged students to consider ways in which they can help meet the urgent problems of poverty,, hunger. discrimination, educational needs and the quest for peace. States today, Brademas said, “Too often we put down our youth; we must realize that the vigor and idealism of young Americans c«n be highly con- . structive.” The Hoosier Democrat, who is sponsor of the Environmental Quality Education bill in Congress pointed out that “The environmental crisis and the leadership of young people in awakening the nation about it, has provided an excellent opportunity for the young to lend their energies to the experience of adults to seek answers to a dilemma that affects us all.” Brademas spoke to an audience of approximately 500, which included the Reverend Leo A. Pursley, Bishop of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese.

RIDE THE READING ROCKET PREVIEW SET — A preview of the summer educational series, Ride the Reading Rocket, will be telecast by WSJV Channel 28. at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, and again at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. June 6. During the 30 minute show\ “Miss Sandy” the pilot of the “Reading Rocket" and her friend “Rocko" the boy space puppet, will introduce the new girl puppet and announce the "name the puppet" contest, the first audience response exercise of the show . The show will have its premier telecast on Chanel 28 at 9:00 a.m. June 15. and will be seen each week day in that time slot until August 7. The program is produced by the educational television services of the Evansville Public Schools under a Title 111 grant administered by the Indiana State Department of Public Instruction. The program, now in its fifth season, was developed by Dr. Jack Humphrey as a means of preventing reading loss for first grade students during the summer vacation. Research reveals that students who watch at least half of the shows and participate in the workbook activities successfully maintain the skills acquired in the first grade. Instructions for the workbook activities are a daily feature of the program. Students' are encouraged to completed the assigned work before the next show. The workbooks are being distributed by local school corporations. If your local school cannot supply you with a copy, you can secure it from Dr. David Pankake. Elkhart Community Schools. MILFORD RESIDENT EARNS TRIP Mrs. Howard Berkeypile of Milford returned recently from a three day trip to Pittsburgh, Pa., where she toured the offices and warehouses of G. C. Murphy Co. Mrs. Berkeypile fitly been employed at the G. C. Murphy Co. in Goshen for the past 15 years.
