STACK ’EM HIGH — When there’s a shortage of space at the area marinas, they make do by stacking boats one on top of another. This is the case at Wauasee Marina, owned by Larry Griffith, and located on the east side of Lake Wawasee. v Taking lime off to sit for our photographer are, from left. Larry. Bob Smith. How to Keep the Kids Happy Outdoors

Keeping children amused on a camping trip generally presents few problems, but it s a wise mother who has a few games up her sleeve for those long drives between campgrounds; Crayons and coloring books help pass the time, too Plan to make frequent stops along the way— at a gas station. a scenic lookout, or for an Ice cream cone — to break up the monotony The driver will appreciate the chance to relax, too. Rainy days sometimes present a challenge, but they need not. A rainy day box has solved

the predicament for one mother She packs it with puzzles, an engrossing or two, construction paper, paste and scissors, h knitting needles and yarn and model cars To retain the element of surprise, the box is only brought out when the weather is inclement. Other families save some of their sightseeing for rainy days. Maps will reveal many tourist attractions — waterfalls, ghost towns, fire towers, museums, etc. The local gas station is a good source of information. Inquire there about

sports events, rodeos, art exhibits, and summer theaters And last but not least, the nearest movie house may have a family type picture you’ll all enjoy. Be sure and have plenty of dry clothes and see that everyone is equipped with raingear. This is most’ important. A transistor radio is a comfort, too. Another hint many parents have put to good use is providing each child with his own individual flashlight This simplifies trips in the night and is a good safety measure.

Plan Protection for Your Outdoors Equipment

Plastic Containers with Seals Offer Safety from the Elements for Food Supplies to Cameras The outdoors is a place to come alive ... an opportunity to leave work behind ... to relax and escape from the fastpaced pressures of urban living. Whether it’s winding up a line with a fighting bass on the othenend or unwinding everyday tensions with a backyard cookout, there’s a place for everyone outdoors. Once the recreation bug bites, however, be aware that there no longer will be a roof over your head. Modern conveniences are something that wise woodsmen take along with them. Nature offers some challenging tests as well as opportunities. To meet the challenges of the wilderness ... plan ahead. A checklist of things to bring is important. Think carefully of .needs you will have in your outdoor sojourn and make

sure you have the answer before journeying outside. Rain can spoil any recreation activity ... and not only for the few minutes one has to wait indoors waiting for the sunshine to come back out. Equipment left out of doors during a sudden storm can be ruined if not properly cared for and sheltered. Food, beverages, and apparel all are in danger of becoming suddenly soggy, unless the proper precautions are taken care of. Some Con*i<ieration* Cover is a necessity . . . cover suitable to the magnitude of your particular outdoor visit. Easily erected shelters make housing outside available in an instant. More ambitious recreation buffs might find campertrailers more desirable. Make sure the camping equipment you get is large enough for your needs . . . and tough enough to contend

with the area you plan to use it in. Be sure that it will fit in your traveling vehicle before you embark outdoors. An easily obtainable means of keeping food and equipment dry and clean is plastic containers. Tupperware offers a wide range of plastic food storage containers adaptable to almost every conceivable aspect of outdoor recreational activity. Food and sanitation are two items that especially require special attention outside. Has Compartment* Equipment, too, has a place in plastic containers. Rain, dust, and dirt are all kept out of vital working parts of reels, ammunition, and other necessities when plastic storage items are used. Don’t let that picture of that big fish be “the one that got away.” Photographic gear needs special attention in protection from dampness.

Imagine the convenience of an outdoor beauty parlor, as pictured above, with the help of plastic containers from the kitchen.

Plastic containers keep cameras dry and surrounded by a rugged exterior. Rain may be the biggest bugaboo that campers contend with, but heat, cold, and wind also can play a part in disrupting activities. Special seasonal requirements must be kept in mind in planning for outdoor trips. Local conditions that might affect outdoor living also must be considered.

Make Camp Life Safe and Cozy, H arm and Dry with Gas Heater

To keep warm, dry and safe when you go camping, make sure the gas heater in your camper or trailer • is vented directly through the roof, never through the side or walls; • bears the American Gas Association’s Certification Seal; • has an automatic positive shut-off, not just a hand valve shut-off; • gets an ample supply of fresh air through holes in the flooring underneath it, or through louvers or ventilators.
