OBITUARIES
Orten Infant Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Syracuse cemetery for the baby of Eric and Mariam (Graff) Orten of r r Syracuse, still born at 8:15 a.m. Friday in Goshen General hospital. Survivors in addition to the parents are four sisters, Rhonda, Jennifer, Caroline and Rebecca; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Graff of Syracuse and paternal grandfather. Ernest Orten, Gary. The Rev. David Hailfley officiated. Sherman Folk Sen ices were held Tuesday afternoon for Sherman Folk. 81, of Syracuse, who died Saturday afternoon in the Riley nursing home. Goshen. Rev. Philip Moschenrose officiated and burial was in the Syracuse cemetery. Mr. Folk had been in ill health for several years. He was born October 4, 1888. in Wabash county to John and Elizabeth ’Bennett* Sherman A resident of the Syracuse community for 45 years, he was a former minister and later a self-employed laborer. He married Myrtle B. Smith in 1908 at McDonald, Mich., and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters. Mrs Claude 'L.icille' Magnuson of Ligonier and Mrs. Elery ' Violet l Garrison of Mishawaka; one son, Charles, of Elkhart; five grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. A daughter and a son preceded him in death, Charles J. Brindle Sen ices were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday of last week for 65-year-old Charles Jacob Brindle * of Warsaw in a funeral home there. Rev. Richard Anderson, pastor of the Wayside Chapel Baptist church of Warsaw, officiated. Interment was in a Warsaw cemetery. Mr. Brindle had been in ill health for several years. Cause of his death was due to complications from the illness. He was bom the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Mary Ellen Lauer> Brindle of Wabash July 13, 1904. He was a resident of Warsaw most of his life. He was married June 18, 1942. to Georgia Garber of Warsaw, who survives. The deceased was a molder by occupation and a member of the First Baptist church of Warsaw. Surviving in addition to his widow are four sons, Robert. Barbee lake. Bill, Peru. Gerald. Deerfield, 111., and Dewey, Claypool; one stepson. Bobby Jones. Warsaw; 10 grandchildren; and one st ep-grandchild.

Nicholas O. Boldgett Nicholas 0. (Nick) Blodgett, 62, of Warsaw, brother of Mrs. Bruce (Isabel) Hyde, Sr., of Leesburg, was dead on arrival at Murphy Medical Center Friday, of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Blodgett was born in Kosciusko county July 31.1907, to Bert G. and Amy (Bradway) Blodgett. He was a member of the Moose lodge. On August 13. 1928, he married Nellie E Davis at Goshen. . Surviving with the sister are four daughters, Mrs. John Ar (Doris) Warren of Elkhart; Mrs. Robert D. (Edna) Kerns, Mrs. Melvin (Beatrice) Mast, and Mrs. Sylvia Marsh, all of Goshen; two sons, Nicholas E. Blodgett of Goshen; and Jerry Blodgett, of Niles, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; another sister. Mrs. George (Thelma) Ehlinger of Warsaw. Services were held Monday in a Warsaw funeral home and burial in Goshen cemetery. Mrs. Ralph Anderson Mrs. Ralph (Beulah) Anderson, 48, of Celina. Ohio, daughter of Clyde and Elie Nettrouer of Warsaw, died of a heart attack last Tuesday. Mrs. Anderson was born at Milford March 19, 1922. She was married June 29, 1944, to Ralph Anderson of Celina, who survives. ’ Other survivors are five children, Cheryl, of Dayton. Ohio; Doug, Robert. Scott, and Neal, at home. Services were held Saturday at a funeral home in Celina. Lawrence E. Haines Lawrence E. Haines. 70. of 700 S. Main St., Ligonier, died in Goshen hospital at 7 a m. Sunday fcfter an illness of one year. Haines was manager of the Ben Franklin Store in this city for many years, coming here from Chicago 43 years ago. He was married to the former Lucille Gutelius in 1926 She survives along with a sister Mrs. Elsie H. Campbell, of Boulder, Colo. Rev. Water House, United Methodist church pastor, was in charge of the services m the Ligonier funeral home at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon and burial was in Oak Park cemetery. Bessie A. White Services were held in the Ligonier funeral home for Bessie A White. 76, last Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. White died in Goshen hospital Saturday at 1 p.m after an illness of five years.

She was born June 4, 1893, in Ligonier and had lived in the area her entire lifetime, graduating from Ligonier high school with the class of 1913. She was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist church and had taught in the Sunday school for 25 years. She was married to Conrad M. White in 1916. He survives along with one son Charles, of Goshen and two brothers. Mr. William J. Clawson, Urbana, 111., Mr. George Clawson. Florida, and a sister Mrs. Willard Fink, South Bend. Rev. Walter House was in charge of services and burial was in Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier. William A. Duerk William A. Duerk. 58, a former Lake Wawasee resident, died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday of this week at the Laughlin hospital at Greenville, Tennessee, where he made his home for several years. Funeral services will be held at Greenville on Thursday, after which the body will be flown to Garrett for a 10 a m. service on Friday at the MdKee funeral home there. Burial will be in the Defiance, Ohio, cemetery. He was bom October 29, 1911, the son of William A. and Mary (Morris) Duerk. When Mr. Duerk resided in this area he was employed at the Weatherhead Co. At Greenville, Tenn., he was employed at the Magnavox Co. He was a member of the Elks and Moose lodges at Garrett. Survivors include the widow, Geneva of Greenville, Tenn.; a son, William Adam of Chicago; a daughter, Linda Coch of Garrett; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Evans of Ocala, Fla., and Mrs. Carl (Lillian) Nickel of r 3 Syracuse; and a half-brother. Carl, of Defiance. O. The family request no flowers, and that contributions may be made to the Cancer fund in the name of the deceased.

MRS. BARNES GRADUATES— Mrs. Richard A. (Anne) Barnes received her license from the state board in Indianapolis after successfully passing an examination earlier this spring. She graduated from the Fort W’ayne Community School of Practical Nursing March 15 with a class of 45 students. She expects to work in the field of her choosing, but at present Mr plans are indefinite. She willspend the summer at home with her husband and children, Carolyn and Jim. GRADUATES FROM COLLEGE — Mrs. Carolyn (Smith) Baker, wife of Rick Baker of North Webster and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil C. Smith, Syracuse, graduated from Manchester college Sunday, May 24. She earned a B.S. degree in health, physical education and recreation. Mrs. Baker recently finished her student teaching in physical education at Syracuse elementary and junior high school. Mr. and Mrs. Baker will be moving to Lake City, Fla., in August where the former will attend Lake City Junior college. He is enrolled in the School of Golf Course Operations. This two year course involves various aspects of golf course management. Mrs. Baker plans to teach in the Lake City area. The John Pettits have returned to Syracuse following a stay at Marietta, O.
Court News Seeks Judgment Joe Mater and Associates, Inc. of Warsaw, has filed a two paragraph suit on promissory note and on account in Kosciusko superior court against Thomas and Margaret Waddell, r 1, Leesburg. The plaintiff seeks judgments totaling $940.48. Claim For Damages The state of Indiana has filed a claim for damages suit in Kosciusko superior court against Roger W. Bowser of r 1 Leesburg. The state alleges that state trooper Julian Echterling, and employee of the plaintiff, was performing his duties on October 26, 1968 and was driving west on CR 250 S near Pierceton with his lights and siren operating. The suit contends that as Echterling approached the intersection of Webster Rd. the defendant negligently .crossed the centerline of the county road striking the state police car which was being operated by state trooper Echterling. The state seeks damages of $1,597.14 allegedly done to the police car in the collision. Contract Suit Lincoln National Bank and Trust Co., Fort W r ayne, has been awarded a judgment in the amount of $1,833.96 in Kosciusko circuit court on a contract suit filed against Larry and Barbara Stauffer of r 1 Leesburg. Account Suit Town and Country Charge of Chicago, has been awarded a judgment in the amount of $505.05 in Kosciusko circuit court on a complaint on account suit filed against Ignacio S. Villalovos of Milford. Marriage Licenses The following marriage license has been issued in the office of county clerk Bessie I. Himes: Larry J. Asks Enforcement Budget Investment & Insurance, Inc., has filed a complaint suit in Kosciusko circuit court against Wayne A. and Darlene Mclntire of r 3 Syracuse to enforce a foreign judgment suit. The plaintiff seeks judgment of $1,042.89 awarded on June 30, 1967, in district court of Otoe county. Neb. Improper Passing Claudith Crider. 18, Syracuse, was assessed fines and costs totaling $37.25 in jp court at Warsaw for improper passing. Babcock and infant son of r 1 Milford were dismissed from Murphy Medical Center Wednesday. Alva Pinkerton of Milford was admitted to Goshen hospital Thursday. Aggie Minear of r 1 Leesburg was treated in the emergency room of Murphy Medical Center over the week end. Mrs. John Chambers of Milford was released from the Goshen hospital Monday, after spending a week because of a heart condition. Mrs. Guy Lambert is still confined to the Elkhart hospital.

A WORKING GROUP — These boys with teacher Jim Hite are out gathering litter in the North Webster area. They are from left David Weicht, Mark Reiff, Jerry Rhodes, Wes Bell, Matt Didier, Nick Dawson and Dozens of bags of trash were collected during the project, thus giving the community the look of spring housecleaning.
EPWORTH FORREST ROAD — Students in grades six, seven and eight at North Webster junior high school staged a clean-up day in North Webster last Thursday which included the streets in town and the main roads and secondary roads leading into town. Several boys are shown here holding a bag of trash collected.

ON THE ARMSTRONG ROAD — This group of North Webster junior high school students took time out last Thursday to seek some relief from the hot sun as they cleaned litter from along the Armstrong road. With the group is principal Wendell Bryant. The students were allowed to dress to fit the occasion and as their part of Earth Day activities held the clean-up project under the leadership of the student council.

Daniel Schwab of r 1 Milford has been released from Goshen hospital and is convalescing at his home. Brian J. Hepler, 2, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Hepler of r 1 Leesburg was admitted to Murphy Medical Center Monday. Miss Martha Groves of Milford is improving at the Goshen hospital where she has been confined for about ten days with a heart ailment. Mrs. Betty Menefee of Syracuse is a patient in Lutheran hospital, Fort Wayne. Timothy Allen George of r 3 Syracuse received treatment in the emergency room of Murphy Medical Center, Warsaw, Wednesday. Mrs. Stella Piatt of North Webster underwent surgery Thursday afternoon at St. Joseph’s hospital, Fort Wayne. Mrs. Fred Dust. Sr., of Oakwood Park is a patient in Elkhart hospital, room 328. Mrs. O. C. Stoelting of Dewart Lake has been released from the Goshen hospital and is recuperating at her home. Walter Ritter of Syracuse is a patient at Gosen hospital, following a heart attack. Mrs. Fred (Rose) Cunningham, of Ligonier, news correspondent for The MailJournal, entered Goshen hospital Monday and will undergo major surgery. Swartz And Riedel Rotarian Speakers Rotarian Jay Peffley introduced Lt. Warren Swartz of ' the Elkhart county sheriff’s ' department during the May 19 , meeting of the SyracuseWawasee Rotary club. 1 Swartz said there are 7,000 1 papers served each year from their and the greatest danger to officers is when they 1 are called in on family ’ arguments. Speaker Swartz talked 1 primarily on traffic deaths adi ding there were more than 5,000 i killed in traffic accidents last i year on the nations highways with more than 50 per ’cent caused by drunken drivers. Last week alone Elkhart ' county had 22 traffic deaths and Kosciusko county had seven. Peffley also introduced the May 26 speaker, Richard Riedel of Warsaw, head of the cancer drive for Kosciusko county this year. He showed a film on research work being done by leading physicians in the nation including techniques being used m the research and what is involved in the disease in the human body and that of animals. Riedel stressed the fact that more money is being spent in cancer research than any other disease in the nation and of the faith and hope of getting closer to the solution of cancer and what causes it. He added that Turkey Creek township went well over its quota for this year in the fund drive and that the county also went over its quota. LAKELAND LOCALS The Cecil Groves of Selma are now at their Syracuse home. , Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Miller and sons Jay and Rod of Nappanee were Sunday callers at the Atlee Miller home on east Shore Drive, Syracuse Lake.
