Mich., has been decorated with the Bronze Star for meritorious service while engaged in military operations against Viet Cong forces. He is shown above with Col. J. B. McMinis. chief of the SAC advanced echelon at military assistance command headquarters in Saigon. Colonel Catallo was cited for his performance as deputy chief of the Strategic Air Com mantel SAC) Advanced Echelon at Military Assistance Command headquarters in Saigon. The colonel has completed 12 months in Viet Nam and is scheduled for reassignment as deputy commander of SAC's 2d combat support group at Barksdale. La. Colonel Catallo entered military service in March 1939. Commissioned in 19M through the aviation cadet prograßi. he served in the southwestern Pacific during World War IL He holds the aeronautical rating of command pilot. BIBLE SCHOOL SET FOR JUNE 8-19 Vacation Bible school has been announced by the director for the Mt Tabor church Vacation Bible school this summer. The director. Mrs Max Beery says. “The dates for the Mt. Tabor Vacation Bible school this summer will be from Monday. June Bth through June 19th ” The program will be for two weeks and will be held in the morning of each of the days during the week. This year one of the largest Vacation Bible school is expected. There are classes for those from four years of age through the youth and teenagers. There will be special limes of study and handcraft, singing, and playing. The teachers and craft leaders have been selected and are now in the process of preparing their lessons for the large goup of children that will be in the Vacation Bible school this year at Mr. Tabor Church Your children can be registered by calling Mrs. Leighton < Dick» Carrick. Mrs Russel Yeager, Mrs. Max Beery, or call the church office. They have enrollment cards for the Vacation Bible school and persons can secure some from them. All children of the area that do not have an opportunity to attend Vacation Bible school is invited to be a part of one this year at Mc Tabor church

ATTENDING NOTRE DAME Harold Hall, a Wawasee high school science teacher, and Silas Howard. Jr., a Warsaw junior high science teacher who resides in Milford, are attending classes at the university of Notre Dame on Saturdays. Hall is in the fourth year of a five year course in Earth Science on a national Science Foundation grant. Howard began studies this year In the summer of 1971 the men will spend eight weeks studying in the northern Rocky mountains. The course is leading to a master’s degree in earth science.

A heart attack claimed the life of Mrs. Arthur Coy, 50. at 2 a.m. Saturday at a camp site near Loon Lake. Miss Julia Connolly is a candidate for associate in arts degree at graduation exercises at Stephens college. Columbia, Mo., on May 26. Mrs. Steven Roderick was guest of honor for a pink and blue shower at the home of Mrs. Charles Kerlin. At 6 p.m. tonight, Syracuse firemen will burn the old buildings at the Johnson hotel site to make room for the new condominium to be constructed. FIVE YEARS AGO Charles Cable, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cable, has been elected president of the student body at La Verne, Calif., La Verne college.' Jones, Jr. Miss Violette O’Dell and sister, Miss Vera, have retired as school teachers with a combined 83 years of teaching. Calvin Beck is recuperating at Elkhart hospital following hip surgery on May 4. Sp-4 and Mrs. Robert Bailey of Hanau. Germany, are parents of their first daughter, Vickie Lynn, born on May 1 at Frankfurt, Germany. Mrs. Bailey is the former Dorothy Carlson of
Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Leatherman of r 4 are visiting in Toronto, Canada, with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Umberta and family. William M. Harvey, 76, died Sunday at the Alfran nursing home. TEN YEARS AGO Miss Lillian Hamman will retire from the teaching profession at the end of this school year after completing 49 years in the profession. All but two years of her career were taught in the Turkey Creek township school system. Hawaiian Cruise was the theme used for the annual junior and senior prom Saturday night at Syracuse high school. The Syracuse fire department has acquired a second hand rig from the city of Frankfort, according to an announcement by fire chief Bill Hess. Miss Mary Miner and Frank Nye Manwaring are planning an August wedding. The spring party of Mothers Clubs was held Monday with 102 in attendance. Members of the Senior Mothers club observed their silver anniversary. Emory Strieby has sailed to Holland to visit his nephew Ralph Leacock and Mrs. Leacock. Mr. Leacock is a field service engineer for a research manufacturing company there.

The Calvary EUB motherdaughter banquet was held at the Solomon’s Creek church Wednesday night with 85 present. Miss Janet Lee Riley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerold Kline, and Terry Trexler will wed on June 11 in Grace Lutheran church. TWENTY YEARS AGO Harold George Rodgers has enlisted for a four year term in the U.S. army. The Seth Wards of Lake Wawasee are having an artist from Indianapolis paint murals on the wall of their newly built sunroom. Mrs. Andrew Armbuster was a guest of her daughter, Mrs. George Butt, at a motherdaughter tea Sunday in the nurses home of Memorial hospital in South Bend. FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO Mrs. Esther Osborn has been initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star. C. A. Woods. C. R. Swenson and M. M. Smith are registered at Purdue university. Francis M. Hapner, 52, was found dead in bed Friday morning of a cerebral hemorrhage. Elaborate new plans are being put in place at Waco dance pavilion for their opening Friday evening. Miss Eloise Holloway is spending several days with her brother, Burdette, at Mentone. Miss Phyllis Miles of Goshen and the Misses Mary and Marjorie Miles of East Chicago are home for the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Strieby have arrived home from the winter at Lakeland, Fla. Maxine Holloway is spending two weeks in Elkhart with friends. Guy Da usman of Goshen has purchased the Lakeview hotel from Mrs. Mary Boland for $22,000. William Shery of Palestine spent the week end with his nephew, Madison McPherson.
Church Os The Brethren Holds Evangelism Congress The Churches of the Brethren of northern Indiana held an evangelistic congress at the Bethany Church of the Brethren on Sunday, May 3, from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. Forty-six of the 50 churches in the northern Indiana district were represented. There were 230 people in attendance. The program consisted of two guest speakers, small discussion groups, a light supper and a panel discussion. Guest speakers were: Dr. Donald Augsburger. pastor of the North Goshen Mennonite church and principal of Bethany Christian high school and Dr. Matthew M Meyers, director of evangelism and a member of the parish ministries resource team at the general offices in Elgin. 111.

Dr. Augsburger is a graduate of Eastern Bapist theological seminary and holds a doctorate in education from Temple university. He gave two addresses entitled “The Urgency of Evangelism” and “The Heart of the Gospel” in which he expressed the conflicts of a social Gospel and the old time Gospel. Dr. Meyers stated the need to try something new and to launch out by faith and then work out the problems. Those representing the Bethel Church of the Brethren were Mrs. Donn Kesler, Mrs. Iva Neff, Delbert Moneyheffer, Fredric Slabaugh and pastor Chester Bahn. Mrs. Fred Stockinger and daughter Susie of Grand Rapids, Mich., spent a week recently at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Searfoss of near Kale Island.
