REMEMBER WHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO Mrs. America of 1961, Mrs. George Murphy, was guest speaker at the Syracuse Mothers club annual spring party Monday night. Pamela Kay Miller and Leo P. Gasper were united in marriage! on April 25 in Atlanta, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. David Kline and infant son Anthony of Fort Dix, N. J., are visiting friends and relatives at Syracuse. Rodney Scott Godfrey, five, son of Mrs. Mary Godfrey, underwent skin grafting from his thigh to knee cap in Parkview Memorial hospital in Fort Wayne following the loss of all toes on his left foot and a chipped knee cap. Rodney fell beneath a power mower while in operation. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Darr have returned to their Syracuse Lake home after spending the winter at Melbourne, Ha. Syracuse attorney R. Steven Hearn was installed as new county prosecuting attorney in ceremonies conducted by circuit court judge Gene B. Lee on Tuesday. A son. Robert Charles, was born Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Dallas McKibben. Mrs. Chester Carpenter. Jr., has been released from Whitley County hospital in Columbia City. FIVE YEARS AGO Hie board members of Lakeland Youth, Inc., have announced plans for open house on Sunday, May 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. A car belonging to Gerald Easthind caught on fire near the post office this week causing SIOO damage. Thomas J. Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Martin of r 1, has been elected president of the Indiana Memorial Union at Indiana university for 1965-66 school year. Airman third class Terry Lee Schrock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schrock, will leave this week with the postal detachment of the Air Force in Saigon for four months. Mrs. Eston Clayion is in Lilly Clinic in Indianapolis. Week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stiffler on r 3 were the latter’s mother, Mrs. Nora Mayfield, and also her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Gurley, and daughter Karen, all of near Greensburg. Mrs. Mae Rinker is a patient in Robert Long hospital, Indianapolis. TEN YEARS AGO Syracuse has received $3,939.82 as its share of the Indiana motor fuel gallonage and auto license fee distribution for the first quarter of 1960. Damage estimated at $20,000 was done in an early morning blaze last Friday at Stiefel Feed Company on Huntington street near the railroad. Sharon Nordman, 16, won the senior championship of Kosciusko county in a contest sponsored by the Drum Majors of America at Warsaw. Sister Kay, 14, won the senior championship in strutting. They are the daughters of the George Nordmans. Guests of Mrs. Hazel Veltman this week were Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Rydholm of Marquette, Midi. Mrs. Stanley Smeeton and daughter, Betty Connolly, returned Saturday from Columbus, Ga., wbere they visited the Horace Gottschalk family. Mrs. Herman Huey and daughters, Becky and Wanda, returned

Smith will attend services Sunday at Purdue university when members of the 1960 graduating class will be honored. Graduation exercises will be held at Hex school Friday night for eighth graders who are Barbara Paugh, Shirley Bell. Franklin Searfoss and Donald Fackler. Mr. and Mrs. George Xanders returned from Hollywood, Fla., On Tuesday night. The scout cabin in Crosson Park is now under construction, but more funds are needed to complete it. The Waco ballroom announces its official opening Saturday, May 27, with danceable music by Chuck Foster and his orchestra. Mrs. B. W. Lame spent the week end in Chicago with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Benner. FORTY-FIVE YE.ARS AGO The 17th annual alumni banquet of \he high school will be held Saturday at the Sign of the Kettle, with 93 responding to the invitation. Howard Bowser was awarded the contract for painting the buildings at Goshen City Park for $495. Nevin McConnell received 63 votes and Simon L. Bell, 19, for aiderman of the second ward in the primary election Tuesday. Mrs. J. H. White purchased a Hudson sedan this week through the local Lakeside Garage. Arthur Kolberg bought an Essex and Henry Carlson, a Reo speed wagon. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Darr went to housekeeping in their own home near Goshen on Monday. She is fourth grade teacher in the public school. Forrest Cripe is improving from tonsillitis. Mrs. James Laughlin is improving slowly.
