Plymouth Tops WHS Cindermen Plymouth's tracksters edged Wawasee Thursday. April 23, in a Northern Lakes Conference track meet at Syracuse The Pilgrims scored 64 points while the Warriors had 54. Kent Wilson, and Donn May Wawasee Steve Cobum tied Pete Sheridan of Plymouth in the 100 yard dash as the event finished in dead heat. WHS Golf Team Bows To Goshen, Manchester The Wawasee high school golf team was beaten by Goshen and Manchester in a match at the South Shore course near Syracuse Monday. Goshen, winning the event, had a team total of 153 compared to 166 for Manchester and 172 for the host team. For the Warriors, Gary Firestone had a 38. Dale Ummel 42, John Auer 44. Rex Hile 48 and Dave Fisher 49. Wawasee now has a 1-5 record for the season and will play at Rochester today (Wednesday). Doug Zimmerman had a 37 to lead Goshen's scoring in the nine hole match Tom Guipe and RoyBergman each fired 38’s while Max Kintigh and Randy Troyer each had a 40. Jerry Pottenger paced Manchester with a 35 to take individual honors for the meet while Barry Faundree and Dick Badertscher each had 42’s, Tom Frantz 47 and Gary Jackson 56 for the Squires. W awasee "B” Team Wins The “B” team honors went to Wawasee with 188 strokes while Goshen had 190 and Manchester 205 JERRY RINKER TOPS SOUTHERN CAL'S BASKETBALL TEAM Jerry Rinker, son of Mrs. May Rinker of 113 S. Harrison street, Syracuse, topped Southern California college’s basketball team and was also chosen as runner-up for the conference’s most valuable player award. Southern Cal ended its 1969-70 basketball season in fine style as it crushed Life college 110-52. This was a fitting end to a teriffic year for the Vanguards SCC finished with a 21-8 record breaking the previous high of 1910, set during the 1964-65 and 196566 seasons Coach Paul Peak's exciting team played fine ball all year. Three times, the Vanguards had winning streaks of six games. Finishing with a 5-1 record in the conference. SCC captured the Golden State Athletic Association title. The Vanguards averaged 81-8 in the season, their single high game being 112 against Life. Jerry had a 16.7 average for the year as he brought down 176 rebounds and 134 assists. He scored a total of 487 points. The Indiana star played in all 29 of the team's games. He made 199 field goals out of 425 attempts for a 47 per cent average. He also made 89 foul shots from 119 tries for an unbelievable 74 per cent.

Louise Connolly has been dismissed from the Goshen hospital to her Syracuse home. MJH Cindermen Record Two Victories Milford’s junior high cindermen recorded two victories in their first two track meets this season. They eased past Larwill and Central Noble last week at Larwill and ran to victory over Talma and Clay-Lake at Mentone Monday. At Larwill, Milford scored 60.5 points. Larwill was second with 57 and Central Noble placed third. Hammond and L’villado Carvajal led the Milford attack with double victories. Milford scored 57.5 points at Mentone. Talma finished second with 45 points and Clay-Lake finished a distant third with 23.5 points. Lyle Slabaugh, Milford ace dashman, was a triple winner in the6o,loo and 220 yard dashes. Uvillado Carvajal set a new Milford school record in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet 10, and one fourth inches as well as picking up a victory in the 44 yard run. Organize Hoosier Mayors In First Against Pollution This time it’s Indiana’s fight against pollution and the onetime Republican senator, with his familiar cigar, is meeting with all Hoosier mayors to enlist their support in the formation of citizen groups to work with the statewide "Cleansweep” committee. Senator Capehart met Monday with 61 mayors in Fort Wayne and spent Tuesday in South Bend, where 81 mayors were invited to join the "Cleansweep” program. Thursday, April 30, Senator Capehart will return to his own backyard—his Washington (Ind.) farm where mayors, town board officials and county commissioners will lunch with him and climb aboard the “cleansweep” bandwagon. LOCAL SEA SCOUTS IN ROAD RALLY Sea Explorers at Syracuse, under guidance of Dr. Jack Clark, participated in the safe driving road rally Sunday hosted by the Goshen post. The 108-mile drive through Elkhart county and extending into Michigan, started at Rogers Park in Goshen and ended with dinner and awards in Goshen 1 in the evening. Teed Howard, driver, and Grant Chappel, navigator, of Elkhart post 50 took first place honors followed by Mike Harris, driver, and John Bahn, navigator, of Syracuse as second place winners. Charles Harris was observer. The second place win made them eligible to participate in the next grand national to be held in Wisconsin.
