Fire In Webster Only a few of North Webster's citizens remember the fire that destroyed much of that Lakeland town when it raged through the business district on May 27, 1911. Our information came from Mrs. Charles (Grace) Hall and Rev J. L. (Si) Kline who do remember. The photos are property of Lewis Lentz of Milford The fire was started by two box’s who were trying to see if they could burn a hole in a pile of straw stored in a barn immediately adjacent to the back of the general store. Needless to say. they succeeded! The bam seen on the right in photo number one was tom down last summer. It was on the back of the present Ed Phelps residence. The betfrey seen above the roof tops in that same photo, belongs to the original North Webster frame school house and was at that time situated somewhere behind what is now the Lloyd Miller home on Mam street. FIRST GRADE GIRLS ELIGIBLE Mrs Ledm Gray, service unit chairman for North Webster girl scouts, announced recently that slips were sent home with all present first grade girls informing them of their eligibility for Brownie scout membership.
