t' BETROTHED — Mr. and Mrs. Herman E. Broekers of Syracuse announce the engagement of their daughter, Linda Darlene, to Charles Glenn Richardson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard W. Richardson of Milford. Miss Broekers is a graduate of Syracuse high school and M. Paul Institute of Hair Design in Fort Wayne. She is currently employed by South Side Beauty Shop in Goshen. Her fiance attended school in Gulfport. Miss. After serving an enlistment in the U.S. army, he is now employed by Sea Nymph Mfg., in Syracuse. A late summer wedding is being planned.
Columbians -Sbrosis Clubs Hold Fashion Show
The Columbian Reading Circle and the Sorosis Literary club of Milford were hosts at a fashion show in the socials rooms of the Christian church on, Monday evening The show was presented by The House Across the Street of Nappanee. It was narrated by Mrs Lucille Masterson and Mrs Betty Johnson who represented the firm. The theme for the evening was blossoming forth in fashion for the seventies and the patio setting of the stage and other floral decorations were in keeping with the theme. The pretty pastels of spring were featured in several shades of pink and also in yellow and green It was especially apparent that the red, white and blue combinations are all the go this year, also striking are the various patterns and combinations in Nack and white that can be worn together well. Waistlines feature anything from the empire look to a ven low waist, including the natural waist look with wide clinch belts. Many styles and fabrics were shown in dresses, some for all women from sixteen to sixty. Sportswear was featured for all round comfort, golfing, tennis and swimming The raincoats shown included all the new materials including the wet look and all lengths, mini. maxi, and regular The ruffles and frills of the past two years are noticeably gone from the scene tailored and semi-tailored ensembles with scarves and pockets for accent

were featured. Several of the ensembles also featured a large hat as an added attraction. Models for the show were Betty Sorensen. Brenda Hurd, Becky Brown. Debbie Jessop. Susie Smith. Connie Geiger. Mrs Max. Duncan. Mrs. Dennis Sharp. Mrs. 1 Arlo Beiswanger, Mrs. Wilfred Wollman. Mrs. Harry Phend and Mrs. Mervin Mishler. During the intermission in the show the Wawasee high girls quintet entertained those present with their rendition of Magic Moments. Boy from Iponema and I Enjoy Being A Girl Members of the quintet are Vickie Arnold anu the Misses Sorensen. Hurd, Jessop and Brown. They were accompanied by Miss Geiger. Door prizes were won by Mrs. Ernie Rogers of Syracuse and Mrs Willis Alt and Mrs. Uretha Gansert of Milford The tea table was beautifully decorated and featured a lovely pink and green centerpiece. Serving at the table were Mrs. T. A Miller and Mrs. Larry Haney. A salad bar was enjoyed by the 100 women and girls -who attended the show. Mrs. Robert Brown acted as mistress of ceremonies for the evening. The committee in charge of the event was Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Mishler, Mrs Darrel Orn, Mrs. Gail Chapman and Mrs. Harlan Wuthrich. Guests were present from Nappanee. Warsaw, Goshen, Syracuse and Milford.

Miss Whitaker is a senior at Pierceton high school and her fiance is a senior in the WarsawCommunity high school. He is also employed by the Armstrong Products at Warsaw. An August wedding is being planned by the couple.
cm * -am * r ‘ . I TREE PLANTING PROJECT— Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clingaman took part in the tree planting at the Lakeland Youth Center Saturday. The Syracuse-Wawasee Garden club recently alloted 1300 to be used to finish an area at the center left for landscaping following completion of the black top parking lot. This money came from various projects by the club with the major portion from the Christmas Bell Walk which over 200 persons attended. A year ago the club donated 1100 to buy dirt for planting in another area at the center. The >outh center is a non-profit organization for benefit of the youth of the community and the building was recently giveft to Lakeland Youth, Inc., by Mrs. Elmo Niccum.
Garden Club Completes Plans For Arbor Day, To Plant Trees
Mrs. Harry Appenzeller was hostess for the April meeting of the Syracuse-Wawasee Garden club at her Lake Wawasee home with 15 members responding to roll call on conservation Mrs. R.C. Tytler, president, welcomed two guests, Mrs. Jessie Peters of Royal Oak, Mich., and Miss Agnes Kloepfer. Mrs. Willard Nusbaum acted as moderator for the program on conservation, bringing to attention that people are the answer to pollution and that "we must all be aware and do our share." Mrs. Ernest Bushong spoke briefly on dividing and multiplying of plants. Mrs. Frank Putt and Mrs. Tytler assisted the hostess. The May 5 meeting will be a plant auction at the home of Mrs. George Kloepfer. STSSA Michael Henning, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Henning of Syracuse, is home on two-week leave from Fleet Sonar school at Key West, Fla.
Primary Mothers Hold Last Meeting The last meeting of the club year, with exception of the spring party, of the Syracuse Primary Mothers club was held Monday night at the home of Mrs. James Zimmerman. Project for the evening for the 15 in attendance was making of posters for a coming money making event of the club. Mrs. Terry McLeod assisted the hostess during the social hour. HOERRS CELEBRATE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY A reception was held at the John Hoerr home by their sons, Robert of Milford and Wilbur of Peoria. Hi., in honor of the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoerr of r 1 Milford, Sunday. About 200 guests attended from Peoria, Fairbury and Kempton, HL; Elkhart. Fort Wayne and South Bend. About 60 relatives had dinner at a restaurant near North Webster after the reception Sunday.

HONORED AT PINK AND BLUE SHOWER FRIDAY, APRIL 10 Mrs. Clifford Nicodemus of Syracuse was guest of honor at a pink and blue shower Friday night in the home of Mrs. Darell Bowman on r 4 Syracuse. Appropriate games were played and refreshments served. Many lovely gifts were received. Syracuse Women Have MotherDaughter Banquet Members of the Syracuse Church of the Brethren, their mothers and daughters, enjoyed a banquet last Tuesday evening in the Hex Grange hall near town. A total of 70 women and girls were in attendance. The welcome was given by Mrs. Fred Hapner, president of the organization. Mrs. Everett Darr led in prayer. A chicken supper was served by the grange. The mother-daughter responses were given by Mrs. Max Simon and her daughter, Mrs. Allen Reeve. Mrs. Ralph Bushong presented the program which included the solo, ‘‘l’m Forever Blowing Bubbles,” and choruses sung by all. Door prizes were won by Mrs. Charles Ellis, Cynthia Barney, and Tammy Phillips. Mrs. Jeff Mishler was honored for being the oldest mother present; Mrs. Janet McCormick, the youngest mother; Mrs. Warren Benson, the youngest grandmother; and Mrs. James Losee, mother with the most daughters. The evening closed with all singing, "God Be With You.” FAREWELL PARTY HELD RECENTLY The North Wood Chapel church of Nappanee held a farewell dinner recently for Mr. and Mrs. Devon Fingerly of r 2 Milford. Others. from the Milford area attending were Mrs. Bertha Wuthrich and Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Sheetz and family. Mr. and Mrs. Fingerly will soon be moving to Sarasota, Fla., to make their home.
TO WED — Miss Eleanor Dean Godwin of Pensacola, Fla., and Bruce Allan Cripe, USMC, are planning a May 30 wedding. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Elby Arthur Godwin of Pensacola and Mr. and Mrs. Bud L. Cripe of Bradenton. Fla., formerly of Syracuse. Miss Godwin will graduate from Florida State university in June. A Syracuse high school graduate, her fiance attended Manatee Jr. college and graduated from Florida State in 1969. He is now stationed at Quantico. Va.
'Volunteer Hospital Service' Program For Wednesday Afternoon Club
“Volunteer hospital service at Goshen hospital” was the program for the Wednesday Afternoon club on April 15 at the home of Mrs. Richard Heyde. There were 17 members and one guest. Miss Agnes Kleopfer. Mrs. Ray D. Jones, president, presided Response to roll call was an old time health remedy. Reports of the county federation meeting were given and a citation of achievement for community improvement awarded the club by the federation. Mrs. Dean Pittman introduced Mrs. George Pepple of Goshen, speaker for the afternoon. She told of the 28,000 volunteer hours given yearly by over 500 volunteer workers at the hospital. A large number of these volunteers are from the Syracuse area and are members of the Volunteer

She added that the auxiliary has purchased for the hospital: Video-trainer, in-bed scale, crash cardiac equipment, an incubator, sleeping chairs, therapy equipment and heart monitoring equipment. Refreshments were served during the social hour. Mrs. Fred O. Qark will entertain for the April 29 meeting and will present a musicale as the program.
