Seeks Larger School

Tom Sittier Resigns As Pierceton Conch

Tom Sittier, coach at Pierceton high school since 1961, tendered his resignation tq the Whitko school board on Monday night. ‘ He said he has a desire of coaching in a larger school, but intends to remain in the field of atheltics His coaching career at Pierceton has included six years as track coach during which he won six conference championships, eight years as cross country * coach during which he won seven conference championships, and nine years as basketball coach during which he won three conference championships. He closed out the current year of basketball with a 11-11 record. He has won several four-way basketball tournaments, but a county or sectional crown has eluded him. In his career at Pierceton he has a 165-101 record. A Varsity Star Sittier, a native of Silver I-ake. played varsity basketball there for four years, and was a threeye.ar basketball star at Valparaiso university. He coached a year of high school basketball in Illinois, two years in the army, and two years al Atwood high school before coming to Pierceton Sit tier is married to the former Pat Tessman of Fort Wayne and is the father of three children: St : eve. 9. Jim. 8. and Linda. 4 Correction For Junior Bowling Tourney The Syracuse Junior Bowlers will conclude the season with their last event, a doubles tournament scheduled for 1 p m. April 5. not April 25 as announced m last week's issue of The Mail • Journal. Entries and inquiries can be made at the Wawasee Bowl with a 9 pm deadline on April 3. Doubles can be two boys, two girls or a girl and a boy with final league average to be used and handicap given. Parents are welcome to watch the event and scorekeepers will be needed

i w TOM SUTLER LEGION BASEBALL SEASON TO OPEN ON JUNE 6 The Post No 243 Legion team will play its first home baseball game at the Ligonier diamond against Goshen on June 6. On June 7 Team No. 1 will also be at home against one of the Stan Musial teams while Team No. 2 takes off against Auburn. The teams will square off in pre-season exhibitions on May 31 and June 3. This will be following the high school sectional Boys whose teams have won their sectional are ineligible to play as long as their high school team is still in the IHSAA tourney. LYNN KAISER CELEBRATES A’birthday party was given in honor of Lynn Kaiser by her parents Mr and Mrs Richard Kaiser of Milford. She was seven years- old. Her little friends enjoyed playing games and contests. Bracelets were given as favors for the girls and games were given to the boys. Butterscotch sundaes, cake and candy were enjoyed by all.
