REMEMBERWHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO The Chevrolet agency at 1001 south Huntington street, Syracuse, has announced a change of ownership with W. L. (Bill) Cutter purchasing the interest of Gordon (Short) McCormick and the firm will be known as W. L. Cutter Chevrolet, Inc. Lance Corporal Max Irvin Baer. 27. Goshen, and a member of the Marines, was killed in action near the Cambodian border March 20. He was a graduate of Syracuse high school with the class of 1959. Walter Coleman, 59, died Friday in the Goshen hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Brown spent the week end at Fort Dix, N. J„ visiting their son, Pvt. Joe S. Brown. The Syracuse safety patrol received an award certificate from the president of the Chicago Motor club in recognition of the outstanding safety record for the past nine years with no accidents at the Syracuse school on a corner protected by the school safety patrol. Miss Nancy Kinder and Steven Runge were married Friday evening in the Saint Andrew’s United Methodist church. The Syracuse Church of God was the scene of the wedding of Miss Linda Harrington and Danny Bill Jones. Wawasee Heights Baptist church will lay the cornerstone for their new church on Easter Sunday afternoon. FIVE YEARS AGO One hundred and ten persons donated blood at the mobile unit in the Syracuse gymnasium Friday. Syracuse businessmen are planning a mobnlight madness sale for April 9. The pet dog of the James Hann family awoke the family with barking at 6:30 Sunday morning to a smoke filled house and a fire in the kitchen. Fire was extinguished before firemen arrived. Mrs. Blair (Nellie) Laughlin died March 27 in the Goshen hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brown announce the engagement of their daughter, Sherrie Eileen, to John ’Hose of Atlanta, Ga., with a summer wedding planned. The teachers’ welfare committee met with the Lakeland school board Tuesday night. TEN YEARS AGO Insurance adjustments have not been made on the loss of the Syracuse fire station a week ago. Susan Fosbrink was honored last week with a plaque bearing her name as winner of an essay contest at Goshen sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO The Syracuse Methodist church will present its cantata on Easter Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Pvt. Charles LeCount was killed in action in Germany on March 14, according to a telegram received by his wife. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Le Count. Mrs. Birdella Pfingst and R. Leon Connolly were installed at the Wednesday evening meeting of the Syracuse chapter of the Order of Eastern Star No. 283. Double Wedding: A double wedding took place Saturday for Miss Elizabeth Wogoman and Ishmael Rookstool and Ella Dora Campbell and Rolland Wogoman in the home of Rev. J. C. Bailey. Both' couples are living at Kale Island Mrs. Alice Hilbish and Miss Margaret Miles presented a musical program for the Wednesday Afternoon club at the home of Mrs. 0. C. Stoelting. FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO A daughter was bom March 25 to Mr. and Mrs. Harry DeHart. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Doll are the parents of a son born April 1. Attention Voters: A caucus is to be held Saturday evening, April 4. to nominate a candidate for town office on the citizens ticket. Vem Long is recuperating after severely cutting two fingers in the saw at Wilt’s factory. Mr. and Mrs. John Auer have moved to the property purchased from Mrs. Allen Wright and the Joe Bushongs have moved into the former Auer property.
