LARRY A. CONRAD has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nominatior. for Secretary’ of State. Conrad earned his law degree from Indiana university school of law in Indianapolis in 1961 after logging more than 100.000 miles and 1.500 hours of travel time between Muncie and Indianapolis. While in law school he became acquainted with fellow student BIRCH BAYH who, at that time, was a member of the Indiana General Assembly. This friendship led to Conrad s selection as campaign manager for Bayh in the 1962 senatorial race. Conrad s early years were spent in Harrison county in Laconia where he attended the elementary school in Borden. The Conrad family moved to Muncie where he graduated from Muncie Central high school and received his AB degree front Ball State university in 1957 While at Ball State he met his future wife. MARY LOU HOOVER of Fort Wayne, who was Ball State Homecoming Queen in 1966. Mary Lou wrote the award-win-ning lyrics to Bayh’s campaign song. “Hey, Look Me Over, which many consider the single most important factor in Bayh’s 1962 victory. Mrs. Peterson is one of only two women who have served as the chairman of their state central committees and because of [ her outstanding experience and ability was invited by PRESIDENT NIXON to serve on the GOP national committee. ■ * • TRUDY SLABY ETHERTON has announced her candidacy for re-nomination for the office of Indiana Auditor of State. In making the announcement of her filing Mrs. Etherton stated, “I have attempted to serve the citizens of Indiana with the highest respect for my oath of office and according to the constitution and the statutes of the state of Indiana. “I will continue to be a dedicated lobbyist for the taxpayers of our state and will also continue to attempt to protect their pocketbooks from irresponsible raids of any special interest groups whose efforts might* cause a tax increase. “I will continue to demonstrate to the voters of Indiana that their confidence in my election in 1968 was not misplaced and I today begin to seek a mandate from the voters of Indiana for re-election as Auditor of State.”
Congressman Brademas Plans County Tour While Congress Is In Recess
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman John Brademas will visit Kosciusko county Thursday, April 2. as part of a week-long tour of Indiana’s Third District. The Democratic Congressman, who is seeking his seventh term, will greet constituents at the Syracuse post office from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. He will meet North Webster residents from 11 a m. to' 11:45 a.m. at the North Webster post office. From there, he will travel to the Pierceton post office, where he will be available to constituents from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. “I have announced to the residents of Indiana's Third District that I will seek reelection, to the U.S. House of COUNTY SWCD TO PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAM The Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District will compete in the 24th Annual Goodyear Soil Conservation Awards Program to select the nation’s top 53 conservation districts, according to Myron R. Metzger. Claypool, district chairman. The district’s activities and accomplishments will be measured against the performances of other districts in the state in determining the first and second place winners in the annual competition sponsored by the Goodyear Company. An independent judging committee of agriculture leaders will select the state winners for the calendar year 1970. Grand award for the first place district will be expense-paid vacation- study trips to Arizona for the outstanding landownercooperator and one member of the district’s governing board. They will be guests, along with representatives of the winning districts in other 10,000-acre Goodyear Farens and the Wigwam, resort hotel, in Litchfield Park. Ariz.. in December 1971. The Kosciusko county district has participated in the awards program four times and was the state's second place district in 1964.

Pierceton; and Perry Hathaway, Claypool. Metzger said the district’s outstanding cooperator for 1970 will be selected from the more than 550 land owners enrolled in the district program. Nationally, more than 2,000,000 individuals and companies have signed cooperative agreements with the 3000 local soil and water conservation districts. Mr. Clingaman. the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clingaman, received training in effective commercial announcing, sportscasting. control board ope; ations, and on camera techniques, as well as numerous other areas of skill required to become a successful radio-TV broadcaster.
